The Student Leadership Academy is a self-paced co-curricular leadership development program open to all current UTPA students. For more information contact the Office for Student Involvement at (956) 665-2660.

  • The Student Leadership Academy is a co-curricular

    leadership development program that is FREE and open

    to all current UTPA students. The Leadership Academy

    offers a mixture of personal, organizational, and

    community leadership development opportunities.

    Becoming a member of the Leadership Academy is easy! 1. Log into BroncLink. (

    2. Click on the Forms tab of the Leadership Academy page. (must be

    logged in to view the Forms tab)

    3. Complete the Registration form and click submit!

    (Enrollment ends Sept. 21st and will not re-open until the end of the


    Once enrolled, you have up to two years to attain 150

    leadership points. You earn the points by attending

    workshops, conferences and completing community service

    hours. (more info on this will be given to you once you are

    enrolled!) When you reach 150 points you will receive a

    Certificate of Leadership and be recognized at the Office for

    Student Involvements Tribute To Success Awards Program.

  • All Student Leadership Academy events are FREE and open to all students, whether you are a

    registered member of the Academy or not!

    Buckys Block Party Kick off the year by coming to this exciting event! Stop by the Leadership Academy table to

    pick up an Involvement Card and find out how getting involved can help you develop

    leadership skills. (Special Event - Personal)

    Student Organization Leadership Conference Members of UTPA registered student organizations are eligible to attend this conference.

    Different organizational leadership topics will be presented to help you maximize your

    leadership skills! Limited space available, must sign up in advance through BroncLink to

    Sept. 10

    Leadership Theories: Social Change Model The Social Change Model (Eisenhower/UCLA ensemble, Higher Education Research

    Institute, 1996) asserts that collaboration among individuals, groups, and communities is

    essential for social change to occur. The Seven Cs of Social Change are principles that are woven throughout the Student Leadership Academy. Come learn about the Seven Cs and how to incorporate these principles into your philosophy of leadership! (Workshop - Community) (Other Topic of Choice)

    Leading with Integrity An integral part of leadership development is learning to lead with integrity. This workshop

    will examine the principles of ethics and integrity and how they relate to leadership. (Workshop - Personal) (Ethical Leadership)

    Sept. 17

    The Civically Engaged Leader: Volunteer Deputy Registrar Training Only 2 out of 10 people in the Rio Grande Valley vote. Help change this statistic by serving as

    a Volunteer Deputy Registrar*. As a Deputy Registrar you will be able to register eligible

    people to vote and make a difference in our community! You have the opportunity to gain

    additional service hours by registering people during National Voter Registration Day on Sept.

    25th. This is a FREE Training and lunch is provided! *Certain qualifications are required

    to serve as a Deputy Registrar. Call the Student Union at 665-7989 for more information.

    Leadership and Career Development: Career Styles Fashion Show Join the Office of Career Services for a unique event where careers and fashion collide! Learn

    how to go from college student chic to career savvy. Live examples of appropriate work attire

    will be modeled. Contact the Office of Career Services for more information or special

    Leadership Theories: Servant Leadership Is leadership positional? What does is mean to serve as a leader? This workshop will examine

    the key concepts of the Servant Leadership Model and how they relate to your philosophy of

    Leadership and Career Development : Mock Interviews The Office of Career Services offers FREE career guidance on how to ace a job or internship

    interview. You will receive individualized advisement and feedback that will help you succeed

    Service Opportunity: Texas Adopt-A-Beach Clean-Up The Texas Adopt-A-Beach clean-up has been an ongoing event since 1986. Preserving our

    beaches is both an economic and environmental priority. Come join fellow UTPA students in

    this bi-annual clean up of South Padre Island. Transportation and lunch provided. Limited

    space available, priority will be given to registered Academy members. Sign up through

    Distinguished Speaker Series: Michio Kaku Dr. Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist, best-selling author, and popularizer of science. As

    the co-founder of string field theory (a branch of string theory), he continues Einstein's search

    to unite the four fundamental forces of nature into one unified theory that will summarize all

    the physical laws of the universe. The Distinguished Speakers Series brings national and global

    leaders from various disciplines and diverse backgrounds. All leadership academy members are

    The Civically Engaged Leader: National Voter Registration Day On September 25, 2012, volunteers, civic groups, and organizations from all over the country

    will "hit the streets" for National Voter Registration Day. This single day of coordinated eld, technology and media efforts will create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities

    nation-wide. Join the Student Union in encouraging our UTPA community to get registered at
