Cancellation PolicyOur cancellation policy has been developed as part of the East Midlands LeadershipAcademy’s aim to ensure value for money from members’ subscriptions and to maximiseutilisation of programmes. Clearly communicating our approach to cancellations willenable us to offer places to other individuals to ensure maximum benefit for memberorganisations and will avoid the original sponsor or individual being charged under thispolicy if sufficient notice is given.

All of our offers are free to book onto (unless stated otherwise) for all subscribingmembers, however cancellation charges do apply as below should notification ofintention to cancel fall within the timeframe of the policy stated.

The table below details the timeframes for cancellation and subsequent charges applied.

Cancellations should be made by either telephone directly to the Academy or emailed at the first available opportunity. Confirmation of your cancellation will be sent via email by return.

The Leadership Academy’s strategy in the next period requires a balance betweennational and regional priorities alongside our members’ local imperatives. The strategicaim of the Leadership Academy will be to continually develop our inclusive approachand to remain a highly credible, regionally focused and nationally recognised centre ofexcellence in the provision of leadership development.

A Profile of the East Midlands Leadership AcademyThe Leadership Academy is a membership organisation developed to servethe leadership and development needs of all the NHS organisations in theEast Midlands. It was created in November 2009 to promote and deliver thesenior leadership development agenda for the East Midlands.

The Leadership Academy was established following a consensus of the ChiefExecutives of East Midlands NHS organisations, seeking to move beyond the role inleadership development held by the Strategic Health Authority (SHA) to a moreoutward facing and inclusive approach reflecting members’ priorities.

The Leadership Academy is hosted byNottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust onbehalf of all NHS organisations within theEast Midlands. It is based at the Universityof Nottingham Innovation Park (UNIP) andis co-located with the Collaboration forLeadership in Applied Health Researchand Care (CLAHRC-NDL) forNottinghamshire Derbyshire andLincolnshire.

It aims to develop leadershipcapacity and capability in all of itsmembership organisations bydesigning, commissioning anddelivering high quality leadershipdevelopment interventions andactivity. The work programme isdefined by member organisations.

The Leadership Academy also provides the regional functionfor the co-ordination ofnational leadership activityand government priorities.

Aspiring Senior Leaders“Delivering next generation leadership for the NHS”

The aim of this programme is to develop the leadership confidence and skills of thosewho both aspire to a Director or Board-level role and who have been identified ashaving the potential to undertake this significant step within the next 2-3 years.

Programme objectives aim to:• Enable individual participants to develop their leadership behaviours and maximise

their leadership effectiveness• Empower participants to shape and lead the future of healthcare delivery • Integrate development and learning between disciplines and professions• Create a dynamic talent pool of senior leaders

Core themes will include:Personal impact and leadership practice This theme is about participants developing self-awareness and self-management andan ability to adapt behaviour.

Understanding the roles and responsibilities of Directors and the BoardThis theme aims to equip participants with knowledge and an opportunity to developcompetence in the behaviours required for Director and Board level working.

Transformational leadership for next generation healthcareThis theme is about leading and managing bold, rapid and transformational change. Itfocuses on engaging and inspiring others, developing high performing teams and theimplications of management decisions. It addresses building and maintaining personalresilience whilst encouraging and embedding innovation at the point of delivery.

Action Learning AccreditedInstitute of Leadership andManagement (ILM) FacilitatorTraining ProgrammeThe training of facilitators to support the delivery of ActionLearning across the region. Action Learning Sets bring togetherpeople from backgrounds to reflect and learn from experienceswith a view to improving their skills of problem solving,listening and giving feedback.

Clinical and Medical LeadershipCohort 2The Clinical and Medical Leadership programme is anaccredited programme, delivered by Arup and designed tomeet the needs of a multi-disciplinary Clinical and Medicalaudience to include two separate development pathwayswhich also offer opportunity for inter-disciplinary collaboration.

Pathway 1: Medical work streamJunior Doctors, Specialist Registrars, newly appointed Consultants

Pathway 2: Clinical work streamMidwifery, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) amongst others

This programme has been designed in collaboration with our member organisations toprovide a bespoke programme of targeted leadership development to meet specific andindividual needs. The programme aims to support leadership excellence by developinghighly skilled medical and clinical leaders.

Black and Minority Ethnic(BME) Leadership ProgrammeThe BME leadership programme aims to develop leaderswith the right mind sets, skills, capabilities to creatediverse and inclusive organisations which focus on thedelivery of health and healthcare activities that address theneeds of all sections of the population and actively redressthe inequalities in health outcomes and experience.

The programme will offer an opportunity for BME leaders to realise their potential toprogress to more challenging and/or senior roles to increase and enhance the talentpipeline for BME leaders at midlevel approximate bands 6-8a or those with theappropriate responsibility in their role.

Board PortfolioThe key theme for our Board level offer this year will focus ontaking a bespoke approach to whole Board development.Previous offers have been made available on an individual basis;however we recognise the need to develop Boards as a whole.By taking this approach we intend to offer bespoke programmes,aimed at addressing specific organisational requirements that willsupport enhanced skills development at a very senior level. Thisbespoke approach will be responsive to the current politicalclimate and offers significant opportunity to develop expertise,taking into consideration the specific challenges and needs ofindividual organisations.

Continuing ProfessionalDevelopment (CPD) for CoachesIt is well recognised that those who experience coachingrelationships develop significantly quicker and are able tomaximise their personal effectiveness much more easily.Organisations which focus on developing a culture where thecoaching style is the most prevalent often experiencesubstantial benefits in terms of the discretionary effort,contribution and motivation of their employees.

In order to sustain this coaching culture its important that trained coaches are supportedand supervised along their continuing professional development (CPD) pathway.Our CPD for coaches portfolio offers coaches the opportunity to continue to developtheir skills as well as a chance to join a database and network of coaches. The coachingnetwork will enable those who wish to extend their practice beyond their ownorganisations to have optional opportunities to offer reciprocal coaching to other EastMidlands organisations thus introducing additional value into the wider healthcarecommunity.

Deanery Heads of Schools programmeThe Deanery programme is an 18 monthleadership development programmecomprising a series of master classes,seminars, workshops and experientialdevelopment events to equip Heads of Schoolacross East Midlands Healthcare WorkforceDeanery (EMHWD) with skills, knowledge andexpertise required to successfully lead themanagement of postgraduate specialitytraining within and across Deaneryboundaries. Elements of thisprogramme will also be available toAssociate Post Graduate Deans.

Clinical FellowshipsClinical Fellowships focus on the development of future clinical leaders through the use of experiential learning. Fellows work on clinical service change projects,designed to ensure they have maximum exposure to key strategic Quality, Innovation,Productivity and Prevention initiatives.

Coach Training Institute of Leadership andManagement Level 7 (ILM7)The Academy is offering an accredited ILM7 coaching qualification to supportpersonal leadership development across the region. Coaches will be trained to deliverexpert coaching for the East Midlands to support personal leadership development.Training will be available at bands 7 and above or for those with equivalentexperience and responsibility. Additionally individual opportunities to be coached areavailable and provide an increase in confidence and self-awareness of individuals aswell as an increasing ability to respond flexibly to change. Coaching is available tostaff across the East Midlands who are currently working at band 6 and above.

Coaches can be accessed through our online CoachNet database and supervisionsessions will be available later in the year for coaches to support their ongoingdevelopment.

Financial Skills Development (FSD)The FSD portfolio offers a wide range of development workshops aimed at all financialstaff to support the development of their technical and softer skills.

The programme is available to all staff working in financial management and providesan opportunity for managers to focus on developing key skills in a structured way thatsupports achievement of their organisational objectives.

Additionally due to high demand, the Management Development programme will beavailable again for 2012/13. This consists of a series of ten workshops coveringessential management skills for new or existing line managers and team leaders tosupport their transition into new management and leadership roles.

The Management Development programme is aimed at band 6 and 7 staff. This is avery highly evaluated programme and early booking is recommended.

Emerging Leaders Cohort 3The Emerging Leaders Programme offers development and stretch opportunities to staff wanting to continue to developfurther leadership skills in a climate of change. Theprogramme is available for staff in bands 6-7 and juniordoctors or those with equivalent roles and responsibilities.

This will be the third cohort due to the success of theprevious two programmes with delegates noting an increasein confidence, skills and knowledge as well as careerprogression and the abilities of those on the programme.

Inclusive Master Class SeriesThe series of six master classes will support the building of a diverse pipeline of leadersfor the future. The master classes are aimed at band 6 and above or those withrelevant roles of responsibility and will support our Inclusive Leadership for a Purpose,focusing on providing leadership development events for underrepresented groupsthroughout the year. Applications are welcomed from all individuals for thisprogramme irrespective of background. Preferential consideration will be given todelegates with protected characteristics.

Mentoring OpportunitiesMentoring is a long standing form of training, learning anddevelopment and an increasingly popular tool for supportingpersonal development.Traditionally, mentoring is the long termpassing on of support, guidance and advice. In the workplaceit has tended to describe a confidential and respectfulrelationship in which a more experienced colleague uses theirgreater knowledge and understanding of the work orworkplace to support the development of the member of staffbeing mentored. The Academy has a large database ofmentors which are accessible for staff working at band 6 orabove. Please visit our database on our website for suitabilityand availability to meet your needs.

Health Visitors Leadership DevelopmentA programme specifically for Health Visitors to equip them with the leadership skillsto provide the highest quality outcomes in challenging times. The three dayprogramme is aimed at senior level Health Visitors bands 6-7 with the aim ofgenerating a renewed enthusiasm and energy within the service to support innovationand drive forward service improvement.

Hospitals for Europe (HOPE) Exchange ProgrammeThe main objective of the HOPE programme is to support the exchange of knowledgeand expertise throughout the European Health sector. This is an excellent opportunityfor selected delegates to travel abroad for a four week training and comparativelearning programme, engaging with healthcare colleagues from othercultures/contexts with a view to translating learning back to host and memberorganisations. Each year a different topic is associated to the programme. Threescholarships are available for the East Midlands through a competitive applicationprocess. Applications are especially welcome from staff with protected characteristics.This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the sharing of comparative knowledge withthe aim of achieving improvements to service configuration and delivery in line withQuality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP).

SafeguardingThe seven month Safeguarding programme aims to enable andempower NHS Safeguarding professionals to explore differenttheories and styles in leadership. The programme is aimed atdesignated and Named Professionals Safeguarding /ChildProtection and Designated and Named Professionals for Childrenin Public Care across the new regional cluster and will helporganisations meet their statutory responsibilities in respect ofchildren’s safeguarding/promoting the health and welfare ofchildren in public care through effective leadership.

Supporting People in TransitionSupporting People in Transition offers a series of workshops tosupport senior staff through the significant changes in thecurrent NHS climate. This programme is split into two workstreams, in order to encompass a wider professional audience;'bands 7 – 8a' and 'band 8b and above' and is designed forsenior staff in any NHS organisation, whose role may beaffected by the current changes being made to the NHSlandscape. The programme focuses on personal development;helping individuals to understand their own perspective duringtimes of change.

Due to the high demand for this programme the Academy will be running cohortsthroughout 2012/13 to support the on-going NHS reform agenda.

National Leadership Framework 360ºFacilitation TrainingThe Academy is delivering Leadership Framework (LF) training to develop individuals tobecome facilitators and offer feedback to delegates on their 360 degree appraisalreport. This training will give individuals the skill and knowledge to read, understandand interpret the report as well as offering supportive and gently challenging feedback.Bespoke in house training for groups of up to eight is available on request.

Operational LeadershipOperational Leadership is a series of six workshops designed tosupport managers in the practical aspects of their roles. This programme is aimed in the region of band 8a orindividuals with the relevant experience of responsibility and willprovide practical skills in areas of budget management, teamdevelopment, commercial awareness and change management.

Top Leaders 360° Diagnostic Modified SuiteThe Top Leaders Diagnostic provides access to an extensive collection of diagnostic tools including 360 degree appraisal, emotional intelligence and leadership climateassessments. The diagnostic is available to Chief Executives, COOs of CCGs and ExecutiveDirectors and provides an opportunity for senior leaders to focus on their strengths andweaknesses in a structured way that supports their CPD and organisations they serve. The diagnostic offers individuals a fully comprehensive insight into how they areperceived and perform as leaders and managers.

Visible Leaders Network The Visible Leaders network offers opportunities for staff inbands 6-8 from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgroundsto network with senior leaders, develop skills and furthercareer pathways. Three networking events are planned for12/13 to include leadership development, interactive sessions,key note speakers sessions and practical offers to supportongoing development. The events are aimed at existing andpotential future leaders from minority backgrounds, band 6and above. To date the network has supported BME staff todevelop tools to support their acceleration; offers access tosenior mentors; provides coaching and network opportunitiesto share experience and generate peer support.
