CPC Called to be Faithful and Prudent Stewards “Shortly after things were shut down in March, 2020, the Office of Catechesis met virtually with parish catechetical leaders each week to prepare for catechesis in the fall. Together we prepared guidelines for gatherings, discussed new ways of rethinking religious education, and sought oppor-tunities to participate in workshops. We found ourselves practicing adaptive leadership skills in order to meet the needs of this uncharted time.” http://www.evdio.org/impact-report.html. The diocesan Office of Catechesis is supported by our contributions to the Catholic Parishes Campaign.

23rd Ordinary Sunday

Dear Parishioners in Christ,

There once were two Major League baseball players-a pitcher and a catcher-who were so dedicated to their sport that they could not imagine life without it. Moreover, they could not imagine the afterlife without it. Consequently, they entered into a pact: whoever died first would try to report back to the

survivor on whether or not baseball was played in heaven. Soon after the agreement was made, the catcher was struck down by a truck and sent to his eternal reward. Being a man of his word, he appeared to the surviving pitcher in a dream. "I have good news and bad news for you," he said. "The good news is that there is baseball up here in heaven and I'm playing every day. The bad news is that I just looked at the bulletin board and you're scheduled to pitch tomorrow." The good news for each of us given in the gos-pel is that we too are scheduled to pitch today. "Be opened," Jesus commands. Open your eyes and ears to see and hear that God needs you to allow Him to express through you His tremendous love-for your family, your friends and neighbors, even your ene-mies. Isn't it amazing!

Jesus desires to give us his healing touch in order to loosen our tongues so that he may speak to the spiritually hungry through us. He invites us to lend him our hearts so that he may touch the lives of people in our day through us, just as he touched the lives of millions through saintly souls like Francis of Assisi, Fr. Damien, Vincent de Paul and Mother Teresa. Like them, we are also invited to become the voice of the “poorest of the poor,” the helpless, the downtrodden and the unwanted who are left aside by the “new economy,” or who cannot even “speak plainly and fearlessly” about their concerns. If we were excited about the Good News of Jesus Christ and about the experience of having the Christian vision of life, we would have to do exactly the same. Jesus’ touch will reveal to us how we discriminate against some people while showing favor to others. His compassionate touch will help us to hear the cries of the poor and the sick. It will teach us to show kindness, mercy and consideration to others. His healing touch will also help us convey peace and hope to those around us.

I would like to make a special mention of praying for our brothers & sisters and children in Afghanistan for peace and peo-ple in Haiti for relief and support. May the good Lord bless them.

Yours faithfully in Christ,

Catholic Trivia 280 What reasons do Chris!ans give for human dignity? Every person, from the first moment of his life in the womb, has an inviolable dignity, because from all eternity God willed, loved, created, and redeemed that person and des!ned him for eternal happiness. [1699-1715] If human dignity were based solely on the successes and accomplishments of individuals, then those who are weak, sick, or helpless would have no dignity. Chris!ans believe that human dignity is, in the first place, the result of God’s respect for us. He looks at every person and loves him as though he were the only creature in the world. Because God has looked upon even the least significant child of Adam, that person possesses an infinite worth, which must not be destroyed by men.
