Sponsorship Opportunities for The Alternative World Cup June 2010 Overview We all know that the FIFA World Cup will be played in South Africa in 2010, where all the best teams and players will compete to become the world champions! Well, there is an alternative World Cup also happening in June 2010 – the Swamp Soccer World Cup! Swamp Soccer is football played on wet, marshy pitches and it is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Originating in Finland a decade ago, the UK event has become the location for the World Cup. The popularity of Swamp Soccer reflects the desire by consumers to try something completely different and exhilarating. In the UK Swamp Soccer is owned, managed and delivered by Swamp Soccer UK Ltd. The company has trade mark protection for the words “Swamp Soccer” and the Swamp Soccer logo. The tournament was launched in Scotland in 2006 and there have been four consecutive annual tournaments to date. The event attracts participating teams from up to 20 countries, and every year attracts millions of pounds worth of international media coverage. For example, Swamp Soccer features have appeared on the BBC Breakfast News, BBC News 24, BBC World, Sky News, CNN News, Futbol Mundial, Soccer am, Transworld Sport, Blue Peter, The New Paul O’Grady Show, Richard & Judy, Rory and Paddy’s Great British Adventure, and many more programmes. Every national newspaper in the UK has also featured Swamp Soccer, as has countless national and regional radio stations. The 2010 World Cup will take place over a weekend – Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th June. The venue is the Swamp Soccer Arena – located in Strachur, Argyll – one of the most scenic parts of Scotland, but only one hours drive from Glasgow International airport. The organisers expect 70 teams to participate from all over the world.
