What is Give Big Kern?Give Big Kern is one day to celebrate the giving spirit of Kern County. In 2017 it will be on May 2nd. Give Big Kern is designed to bring the county together as one community, raising dollars and volunteer hours for Kern County’s nonprofits through a single 24-hour crowd-funding campaign. Give Big Kern shines a light on hard-working, local nonprofits, empowering them to advance their marketing, engagement, and development capabilities while encouraging connectivity and collaboration across the sector. Who is behind Give Big Kern?Give Big Kern is an initiative of Kern Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of growing community and growing philanthropy. The 24-hour giving day is a part of the Foundation’s Nonprofit Strengthening initiative, which focuses on increasing visibility, building capacity, and improving sustainability for local nonprofits.

2016 Highlights - The inaugural year for Give Big KernCOMMUNITY BENEFIT

$176,957 was raised and distributed to participating nonprofits

73,899 volunteer hours were pledged to participating nonprofits

350 individuals from 126 participating nonprofits attended free training sessions

covering topics from building a social media presence to developing a communications plan

869 donors gave through the Give Big Kern website
