History
Since the beginning, humankind has been generating waste, be it the bones and other parts of animals they slaughter for their food or the wood they cut to make their carts. With the progress of civilization, the waste generated became of a more complex nature. At the end of the 19th century the industrial revolution saw the rise of the world of consumers. Not only did the air get more and more polluted but the earth itself became more polluted with the generation of nonbiodegradable solid waste. The increase in population and urbanization was also largely responsible for the increase in solid waste.
What is Solid Waste ?
Solid waste can be defined as:unwanted products in the solid state derived
from the activities of and discarded by society. It is produced either by - product of
production processes or arise form the domestic or commercial sector when objects
or materials are discarded after use.
Waste is generated continuously in every single way from our daily activities. Each activity will generate different types of waste which will requires its own separate or specialize treatment.
What are the Sources and Types of Solid Waste ?

If we cannot dispose it properly , What will happen?
Treatment for Solid Waste /Learn to :• Segregate - To separate or isolate from others or from a main body or group.
•Dispose -Waste that cannot be reused or recycled in some form eventually finds its way to disposal. This disposal includes landfills, but an increasing number of municipalities have elected to divert waste into resource recovery.
And …
Always remember the
Three R’s !
Three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle•ReduceThe first and most effective component of the waste hierarchy is reducing the waste created. Consumers are encouraged to reduce their waste by purchasing in bulk, buying items with less packaging and switching to reusable instead of single-use items. Businesses can adopt manufacturing methods that require fewer resources and generate less waste. In addition to benefiting the environment, these efforts often offer consumers and businesses the financial incentive of lower expenses in purchases.
ReuseDespite efforts to reduce the amount of waste generated, consumers and businesses still create substantial waste. Much of thewaste can immediately be reused to minimize the strain on the environment and municipal waste management.
RecycleWhen waste is eventually discarded, segregating items for recycling from other waste is important. Recyclables include glass, newspaper, aluminum, cardboard and a surprising array of other materials.
