The Most Holy Trinity

2

Happy Trinity Sunday! This installation of the Rector’s Corner should be accompanied by a strong cup of coffee, as I quote copiously from Pope Saint John Paul II. One God, three persons, means something incredible for us. As a communion of three persons, the Blessed Trinity is all about complete self gift and complete reception of gift. Heaven promises us complete fulfillment: communion, intimacy, and a promise of a mind-blowing, expanding reality in heaven. I turn to the words of St. John Paul II in his opus magnum, Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology of the Body: “‘In the resurrection they will take neither wife nor husband, but will be like angels in heaven’ (Mk 12:25; cf. Mt 22:30). ‘They are equal to the angels, and, being sons of the resur rection, they are sons of God’ (Lk 20:36) . . . The eschatological communion (communio) of man with God, which is constituted thanks to the love of a perfect union, will be nourished by the vision ‘face to face,’ by the contemplation of the most perfect communion—because it is purely divine—which is, namely, the trinitarian communion of the divine Persons in the unity of the same divinity.” We, adopted daughters and sons of God, will experience a spiritualization (divinization) that our earthly journey can but anticipate. In our present life we work hard to grow spiritually in cooperation with God’s grace. We allow His Trinitarian life, love and presence to shape and guide our response to the challenges and blessings of life. We carry within us that struggle towards/away from God (as reflected in our penchant for ungodly self-reliance). As we allow God’s mercy to reach us, his Spirit to equip and strengthen us, we learn to grow in virtue. We become worthy citizens of heaven only in virtue of His grace. What can we look forward to in heaven? To be equal to the angels To know divine sonship of God To see and know God face to face “Participation in the divine nature, participation in the inner life of God himself, penetration and permeation of what is essentially human by what is essentially divine, will then reach its peak, so that the life of the human spirit will reach a fullness that was absolutely inaccessible to it before. . . This new spiritualization will thus be a fruit of grace, that is, of God’s self-communication in his very divinity, not only to the soul, but to the whole of man’s psychosomatic subjectivity. . . The “divinization” in the “other world” indicated by Christ’s words will bring to the human spirit such a “range of experience” of truth and of love that man would never have been able to reach it in earthly life.” We will “discover in God, “the whole ‘world’ of relations that are constitutive of the world’s perennial order (“cosmos”).” Pretty mind-blowing stuff! There is much to look forward to. Let us not grow weary in doing good in the present day, as the struggles we experience now are preparing us for a future glory that go beyond all telling! (Roman 8:13). John Paul II, Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology of the Body, trans. Michael Waldstein (Boston, MA: Pauline Books & Media, 2006), 392-397

¡Cosas impresionantes! (continua en la pag. 6)

Everyday Stewardship

The Church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. That oneness is mirrored for us in the Holy Trinity: one God in three Persons. We are a diverse community with different backgrounds, cultures, realities, and gifts, but we are truly one. Unfortunately, we too often forget this and function as a fractioned body. We needlessly compete against one another, judge one another as opposed to help, and sit silent when our brothers and sisters call out for help.

When we take seriously our stewardship way of life, we see our lives as not truly belonging to ourselves. We want to offer our very existence to God and the Body of Christ. If we find that we are resistant to that fullness of generosi-ty, or we begin to use our gifts in a way that fractures community, we then actively work in contrast to this mark of the Church.

The Church that was established by Jesus and fortified by the institution of the sacraments cannot be destroyed and deprived of Her four marks. The human element may be strained and injured, but not even the gates of hell will prevail against this institution alive in the Spirit. Our actions can either bear witness to that reality or can bring offense. Let us pray that enough of us will choose the holy way so all the world may see that God is real, Jesus is alive, and we are ONE. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

-Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

World Refugee Day, June 20

We remember the plight of millions of people across the globe displaced from their homes by war, famine, corruption, and other violence. These people are part of our human family, and their needs are Christ's needs. In Matthew 25, we see God's heavenly expectations for disciples. We are to meet Jesus in the least among us - the hungry, the thirsting, those without adequate shelter or clothing, the ill, and even the incarcerated. This shouldn't be too much of an imaginative stretch. After all, Christ himself knew what it was to be a refugee. St. Joseph took the Holy Family to Egypt, fleeing from the wrath of Herod. Jesus spent his first few years of life as a stranger

in a strange land. Mary knew what it was like to navigate an unfamiliar marketplace and to be surrounded by a foreign tongue. Joseph had a practical trade but had to start from nothing all the same. Let's pray for all refugees today and to see in them our own story of faith.

The Parish office is in need of volunteers to help with miscellaneous administrative tasks. Office hours: 8:30am-5:00pm, M-F. If you are interested in helping out, contact Louis Barron, [email protected], 512-476-6182, ext. 172, or Yvonne Bedell, [email protected], 512-476-6182, ext. 110.

(Roman 8:13).

Live the Liturgy

We believe in one God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The reality that God is three distinct Persons yet One is something that is difficult for the mind to grasp. But, under-standing God in this way is not impossible for the contemplative heart. We need only to look around us to see our triune God playing and interplaying with all of creation with each of His Persons manifesting itself. God our Father abounds in and through creation. God the Son beats in every human heart, in love, in tenderness of mercy, and in our neighbor. God the Holy Spirit breathes life into all things and guides the course of time and the seasons, bringing wisdom and guidance to all things. Breathe in the height and depth of God's triune presence and may your heart contemplate His presence and glory.

Religious Freedom Week: Strength in Hope

June 22-29. In the face of our country’s challenges, and challenges within the Church herself, Catholics find strength in the hope of Jesus Christ. We want to share that hope with everyone.

Religious freedom gives us the space to carry out the mission that Jesus has entrusted to the Church. Religious freedom means that Catholics, and all people of goodwill, are free to seek the truth and to live in accordance with that truth, and so to strengthen our common life as a nation.

Beginning June 22, the Feast of Saints Thomas More and John Fisher, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops celebrates Religious Freedom Week. In the midst of our current challenges, join us as we seek the kingdom and find Strength in Hope.
