MARRIAGE & FAMILY WEEK
24th to 30th July The Family Praying Together: The Domestic Church
Special classes will be held at St Mary’s with
Grandparents day ….and the “EXPLORE” PROGRAM
will be held at O’Connor Catholic College…. providing an
opportunity for young Catholics and their friends to hear
about the concept of Christian Marriage from couples
trained in the Explore Program who will be visiting the
College.
The week will end with a family Mass in the Cathedral on
Sunday 30th July at 10am. After Mass St Mary’s Catholic
Primary School will host a morning tea followed by a
conversation, beginning with John & Linda Hanrahan
sharing their experience on the topic, ‘The Family Praying
Together’
Kerry Steller will speak at each Mass this weekend inviting
families to come along and join in the discussion. The
suggested discussion questions are as follows:
• What is prayer?
• How did you come to know about prayer?
• Why do you pray?
• What method/s of prayer that appeals to you
most?
• What stops you from praying?
• How do you help your family to pray?
• What are the challenges you experience in praying
as a family?
• How do you deal with these challenges?
• And others?
The pamphlet ‘Parents Passing on the Faith’ is being
handed out this weekend. This publication has some good
tips for parents on this topic.
CHANGE TO MASS SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
Please note that ALL Masses Monday, Tuesday
& Wednesday will be celebrated in Our Lady of
the Angels Chapel and not the Cathedral due to
installation of the replacement loudspeakers
from the lightning/storm damage early this year.
Let us once more take up the song of the Psalmist. In the home where husband and wife are seated at table, children appear at their side “like olive shoots” (Ps 128:3), that is, full of 12 energy and vitality. If the parents are in some sense the foundations of the home, the children are like the “living stones” of the family. (cf. 1 Pet 2:5).
