The Sanctuary Candle that will be lit this week during our Eucharistic Celebration is in memory of Richard Lawlor. This is a gift from wife, Irene.

Cardinal O’Malley the Archbishop of Boston pronounces the name of the blind man in today’s gospel by putting the accent on the second syllable: BarTIMeous. the word “bar” in Hebrew means “son of” so he calls the blind man “Son of Tim.” Tim’s son teaches us several things. Firstly about how to carry our crosses. We find him lying by the side of the road begging. He can’t do otherwise. Maybe Tim died without adequate life insurance leaving his son nothing. Tim’s son does what he needs to survive. He knows about Jesus; so he is well informed. Secondly he teaches us to be steadfast in prayer. He calls out to Jesus repeatedly, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.” He calls louder and louder. Even when the people around him are annoyed and tell him to be silent, he calls out all the more. Tim’s son also teaches us how we should behave towards each other. Jesus calls him and the people around him, the same ones who were just telling him to shut up, tell him "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you.” They are happy for Tim’s son, not jealous or envious that Jesus called him. Tim’s son teaches us to be ready and to take the opportunity when it presents itself. He throws off his cloak and stands up. Here’s the problem. How does he get to Jesus? He’s blind. There is a crowd. How can he walk to Jesus? There is only one way. The people around him lead the son of Tim to Jesus. The people around us help us to find Jesus we should not ignore this very valuable aid and at the same time we should help others come to Jesus. What does the Son of Tim do once he encounters Jesus and is healed in body and soul? He follows him. “Go thou and do likewise.” Luke 10:37

You have no idea how much your help was appreciated. Thank you to all who supported our 50/50. ¿Cómo llegará a Jesús? Él es ciego. Hay una multitud. ¿Cómo podrá caminar a Jesús?
