REFLECTIONS – Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time - From Biblical times to the present, people have often thought that if God was pleased with them, then good things would happen to them. If you experienced trials and trouble then you must have done something “wrong.” That is not the message of the New Testament. It is not the example we are given in Christ’s life. Good things are not rewards nor are bad things punishment. Both can be used to deepen our relationship with God. How do you see the good and bad things in your life? Do you see them as opportunities to grow closer to God?

“Steadfast is his kindness toward us, and the fidelity of the Lord endures forever.” - Psalm 117:2 Reprinted with permission from S.T. Productions.

Nativity Mausoleum Update Our sales campaign is underway for the construc-tion of new mausoleum crypts at Nativity of Our Lady. The new mausoleum is probably 1 year away from completion, therefore, the small num-ber of unsold crypts that we have in current in-ventory will be reserved for temporary placement for caskets of families who have bought in the new mausoleum and are awaiting completion of the new facilities. We wanted to make this infor-mation known so that you can plan accordingly for your family’s burial needs. If you would like to speak to a salesman from the Acme Mausole-um company, please call the church office for their contact information.

Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Mrs. Rita Mae Cestia. Mrs. Cestia passed away in December of 2015 at the age of 93. Not having any children of her own, Mrs. Cestia and her husband willed that their remaining assets would be distribut-ed to Nativity of Our Lady Church and The Society for the Propagation of the Catholic Faith. Our share of Mrs. Cestia’s gift came out to $52,300.15. This generous donation will help our parish offset some large expenses that we have incurred or will incur soon. Our liability insurance bill for this year cost our parish $24,854. A recent tree trimming job cost our parish $10,500. A new updated choir sound sys-tem is in the works that will cost our parish approxi-mately $10,000. A church roof repair that will take place in the fall will cost our parish $154,000. Thanks again to Mrs. Cestia and to all of our Parish-ioners who allow our parish to operate and do Christ’s work.

God Bless, Fr. Mario Romero.

The Eucharist It is called the “source and summit” of our Catholic faith - The Holy Eucharist. But do we really understand its true meaning? In Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s The Eucharist: A Bible Study Guide for Catholics you will see the essential connection between the Eucharist and the Scriptures, and through reflection and discussion you’ll learn to apply the principles in your own life. In this study you will find answers to these questions and more: • Where do we see symbols of the Eucharist in the Old

Testament? • How do the Old Testament sacrifices prefigure

Christ’s sacrifice? • What did Jesus mean when he said “Do this in re-

members of me”? • Why is Jesus called the Lamb of God? • How do we meet Jesus in the breaking of the bread? The Eucharist will change the way you look at the Mass and allow you to meet Jesus as transformed by his gift of life. The Study Groups are available on Tuesdays at 9:00am and Thursdays at 6:10pm. They begin the week of Sep-tember 13th and conclude the week of October 25th. Please call Brenda Romero at 365-3759 to register for this study group.

IS R.C.I.A. FOR YOU? Have you been searching for a Church home, and would like to learn more about the Catholic Church? Or, for whatever reason, you did not receive your First Communion or Confirmation when you were younger? The R.C.I.A. Program, the Rite of Chris-tian Initiation of Adults, would be the place for you. The R.C.I.A. is a process of catechesis (instructions in the principles of Christianity) and community building. This program is open to all non-baptized adults seeking to join the Catholic Church, as well as those willing to convert from another faith, and those baptized Catholics who would like to enter in-to full membership in the Church. The “Come & See night is September 27th. If you would like more information, fliers are available at the entrances of church. Contact Father Mario at the church office - 364-8360

We are pleased to announce that arrangements have been completed with Acme Mausoleum Corporation to build Phase 4 of our mausoleum here at Nativity of Our Lady. Acme Mausoleum has over 100 years of memorial experience and is the largest builders of mausoleums in the nation. They were the builders of our recent additions to our mausoleum and are here again offering the same trustworthy credentials and satisfactory service. Representatives will be contact-ing our families over the next few weeks to answer questions about the mausoleum and determine who is interested in making provisions for their fami-lies. The number of crypts selected before construc-tion will determine the size of the mausole-um. Spaces are reserved on a first come basis, there-fore anyone seeking information should either mail in the return card from the brochure being mailed to you, or by calling Acme at 1-877-620-7875. To be assured of a selection of your preference, you should reserve your space now. Additional brochures are located at the rear of the church for those who may not have received one in the mail.

Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 21, 2016

Reading I: Isaiah 66:18-21 • People who gather in God’s name from all the nations. Reading II: Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13 • Your trials in life bring you strength. Gospel: Luke 13:22-30 • Some who are last will be first, and some who are first will be last.

Theme: “Following Jesus calls us to risk and not always take the easy road.”

CHILDREN: How do you show that you are a follower of Jesus? YOUTH: J esus tells us that being His disciple will be very hard. Of all the things that Jesus tells us about the way that we are to live our lives, what is the hardest thing for you to do? Why? ADULT: As you wrestle with today’s Gospel, what signs do you see in your own life that you are “with God?”

Because our church bulletin is printed out of state, all Mass intentions and announcements should be submitted to the office at least two weeks prior to the requested bul-letin date. Thank you.
