This month we celebrate the joyous holiday of Shavuos starting the eve of Sat. May 26th through Sunday May 28th .Whereas all other holidays have specific traditions that are uniquely linked to it, such as the Seder and mat-zoh at Passover, the Sukkah and the Arba Minim (the lulav, the etrog, etc.) on Sukkot, the shofar on Rosh Hashana, etc., Shavuos has no particular custom associated with it. True, we eat dairy food like blintzes and cheesecake, and we read the book of Ruth, but it is not comparable to the

mitzvahs associated with the other holidays.

Why is this holiday so devoid of specific rituals? Let us consider the personality of this holi-day. Shavuos commemorates the moment when G-d revealed himself to us at Mount Sinai and gave us the Ten Commandments. We relive the events of 3328 years ago when, according to Jewish teaching, all Jewish souls born and as yet unborn, were present at Revelation. This all-inclusive factor distinguishes Judaism from the other religions where their point of origination was witnessed by a limited and select audience. Judaism is sustained by a true lack of hierar-chy. Everyone is equally obligated to obey all commandments. The essence of this holiday is our relationship to the Torah. The word Torah derives from the term for study. This corner-stone of our history presents us with an opportunity to renew our attachment to the study of Torah. So while other holidays have their particular traditions, the traditions of Shavuos seem more cerebral.

Therefore utilize this magical time to reconnect to the Torah by studying. This limitless fount of knowledge is the pursuit not of a coterie of scholars, but is the province of everyone. Espe-cially today, with the advent of the internet and user-friendly Jewish texts, anyone can access anything in Judaism that interests them. So come to the study session on Shavuos eve, Saturday May 26th at 7:30 when I will explore different subjects and any topics and questions you bring. If there are particular topics you are interested in studying, please contact me.

Hello Everyone I would like to welcome home our snow birds. We missed you and hope you missed us. We all survived this past wonderful and mild winter and are now looking forward to a great spring and summer. I want to thank Aaron Toledano, Irving Cohen, Stanley Grossel and Joe

Traum for their great performances in leading the services in the absence of Rabbi Korenblit during the Passover holiday. I especially want to extend my thanks to Mr. Burt Shoobs for his Torah readings during this Passover holiday. Burt was outstanding and we all appreciated his service to the Clifton Jewish Center. On Sunday April 22, 2012 the Clifton Jewish Center held the long awaited Arts and Crafts Show. We had thirty one vendors selling a wonderful variety of hand crafted items. Karen Schutz, Aaron Toledano and I expended a great amount of time and effort in planning this event with the hope of raising much needed funds for the Center. I was very excited, hoping this event would be the first of many more shows to follow. Unfortunately the rain that we had not had for such a long time picked this day to arrive. A fair amount of people did come, but not in the volume we had expected, thus disappointing the vendors and me. What is most disappointing was the lack of CENTER MEMBERS coming out to support the Clifton Jewish Center. Except for our members who volunteered to tend the food stand, a few of our newer members and the nucleus of members who usually attend our other Center functions, no other Center members were observed. THIS IS VERY DISTURBING. On Sunday April 29, 2012 our Breakfast Extraordinaire was held with a menu consisting of a variety of omelets and all the fixings, prepared by Aaron Toledano and his son Nessim. These two men did an outstanding job in coordinating this event and cooking this meal. It was enjoyed by all that attended. Thank you. DO NOT FORGET SUNDAY JUNE 10, 2012. This is the date of our annual TESTAMONIAL DINNER DANCE at the Richfield Regency. This year our Honorees will be our LOYAL, FAITHFUL and DEDICATED MINYANNAIRES. Please plan on attending this event to pay tribute to these most deserving men and women Please go out and sell those ads. Make this a great event. SUPPORT YOUR MINYANNAIRES!! Mark your calendars. Friday June 29, 2012 is the Installation of Officers and members of the Board of Directors. We look forward to seeing you there. Malvin Gang President

SHAVUOT

The holiday of Shavuot Commemorates Jewish Nationhood.

The fact that Shavuot is confined to a two day observance as compared to the eight days of Passover and Succoth does not diminish its great importance. The famous Jewish Philosopher Saadiah Gaon who lived during the 10th century in

Jewish people is a nation solely by virtue of its

love that culminates in a gathering of several thousand walkers in Verona Park in Verona , NJ. We do this each year to bring awareness and raise funds for research to find a cure for blood related cancers. This year our walk is scheduled for Saturday October 20th at 5:00pm. The reason for our walk is a serious one. Every five minutes someone in the

Myeloma. Every nine minutes a child or adult is expected to die from these. Although our night begins with a multitude of walkers all gathered together in various team tee shirts and carrying balloons of red for those in treatment and supporters, yellow for lost loved ones and white for survivors, we are all there for the same purpose.

We enjoy pre walk light foods and beverages, music, clowns, face painters and other enter-tainment before our actual walk begins around the park. What a walk it is! Imagine an
