Editorial

Congratulations to all involved in the Kulin High School Centenary Celebrations by all accounts it was a wonderful day. We had around 30 people come along for the Welcome Home Tours that the CRC coordinated. Gen Whisson did a Stirling job filling people in on the major developments the town has undergone in the last 10 years. Visitors were very impressed with our Discovery Zone and the initiatives the community had implemented around sustainability and tourism. Check out the photos on our Kulin CRC Facebook page!

Kulin District High School Centenary 12th March 2016

Dear Kulin Community.... I have one final thing I have to ask you to do.... Please Kulin take a bow!!!!! You deserve it, what an incredible and satisfying event we have just hosted, every person in our community and beyond who has assisted to make the Kulin School Centenary Celebrations an event that will long be remembered I am indebted to!! I have had only positive, glowing and loving compliments coming my way regarding the outstanding weekend centenary celebrations. Early reports are that we had an attendance up to 750 people on Saturday 12th March at the Kulin District High School. This was followed by an equally splendid reunion at the Freebairn Recreation Centre where over 600 people enjoyed an informal, relaxing and memorable evening of eating, drinking and reminiscing throughout the entire venue which was decorated with twinkling lights, royal blue and white lanterns and marvellous vases of blue and white balloons. The Kulin DHS staff, students, parents and community volunteers had done an amazing job of transforming the school classrooms and library and a quality display of history from 1916 to 2016 was on show. No stone had been left unturned to ensure that as many photos as possible were on display. Significant and well regarded historic accounts, rare and unique memorabilia belonging to the Kulin School, Shire of Kulin and many individuals was presented and ready for the hundreds of people to relish and enjoy the expansive and impressive story which we all belong to. Many, many volunteers attended a series of busy bees throughout the week and volunteered on the day at the school and at the Freebairn Recreation Centre. The quadrangle was set with several large marquees and the stage became the focus of the formalities from 1.30pm. The crowd roared and cheered as students, staff and community members entertained them with a musical recount of the past 100 years, intertwined with some significant historic moments special to Kulin. The centenary speeches evoked a sense of pride for current and past students and staff, and the speeches resonated with the crowd who had arrived in Kulin to celebrate the significant milestone and enjoy the celebrations together. One of the final formalities was the unveiling of the Centenary Plaque and cutting of the centenary cake. The honour was given to ex-student, 96 year old local Harold Proud (Harold began at Kulin School in 1929) and the youngest student currently at Kulin District High School, Neisha Duckworth.

Afternoon Tea had the exact reaction we had been hoping for, "WOW". The P & C and community of Kulin should be congratulated for all the wonderful food for afternoon tea, and for all the helpers especially the school students who worked so efficiently and enthusiastically helping with serving and collecting the afternoon tea. Souvenirs sold like hot cakes but we still have some left so if you are interested in buying a piece of history I recommend you hot foot it to the Kulin CRC where you can still buy commemorative Kulin School Centenary souvenirs (Travel Mug $12, Teaspoon $10, Stubby Holder $6, Mints $2 and/or a Pen $2) Lastly I'd like to again thank all the volunteers, local businesses, our sponsors and community partners, the Centenary Celebrations would not have been possible without all this support: Lotterywest, CBH, Kulin Community Resource Centre, Shire of Kulin, Kulin Freebairn Recreation Centre, Shire of

Kulin Child Care Centre Happenings

Contributed by Melina McBow

The children have been having a fantastic time writing letters to each other and posting them in the big red mail box we made! On Wednesday 3rd we decided to go on an excursion to the Post Office and post a real letter we had written to our mum and dad. First we had to stick a stamp on the envelope then one by one we put them in the red letter box! I’m sure all the mums and dads loved receiving their special letter.

There has been lots of role playing happening with the new doll house from Melina’s house and train track table! The children’s imagination never ceases to amaze us!! Thankyou to the Frantom family for lending us the train table. We built a ‘cake tin’ band in the mud kitchen, there has been some awesome tunes coming out of there. On Friday 4th the children went on a “Bear Hunt”, through the forest, the long wavy grass, oozy mud, across the river, through a tunnel till they finally found a dark gloomy cave and inside was a…… BEAR!!! Arghhhhh.

Easter is just around the corner so we have started a few Easter craft activities. The children are very excited about the Easter Bunny visiting them and have lots of stories to tell! Reminder KCCC will be closed Friday 25th and Monday 28th March.

Have a safe Easter and enjoy this special time with your family.

From everyone at the centre ox
