PRELIMINARY TASK
PRELIMINARY TASK
For my preliminary task, I created a college magazine, including a front cover
and a contents page.
When I went into the project, I didn’t do much research into the area of
magazines and therefore did not have a good idea of what I was going to prepare
Also, I did not do a full plan, only a rough sketch of what I wanted it look like in
the end, I did not put a lot of thought into making it interesting.
When I did the photo shoot for my college magazine, I did not put a lot of
thought into what would look the best on my magazine, I only took to looking for
something that looked like it belonged in a college.
When I started editing my images and background, I did not have
a lot of knowledge of Photoshop, so I did not know what to do to
make my magazine look more like a magazine and look effective. So I
basically used basic editing for the images and simple colours and font
to go on the cover.
MUSIC MAGAZINE
When beginning the creation of my music magazine, I put a lot more time
into researching existing magazines and planning what mine would look like. I
looked into three particular magazines to see what features they had, that
appeared frequently, to see what type of things I could put into my magazine.
I also did research into audience, starting with creating an audience profile
to see what a certain type of person would like to see in a music magazine.
Following this I took on board audience feedback and changed things to make
it right for my audience.
Unlike in my preliminary task, I put a lot of thought into what my images should look like,
where they would be placed on the pages, and how they would be edited. I did this by looking at
my style model, Playbill, and sketching rough plans of what I wanted the final result to look like.
While doing the photo shoot for this magazine, I took more photos than I could have used
in my final piece and played with which ones looked best and edited the best before choosing
the correct ones.
Along with getting more research and planning done, I also learnt many new skills on
Photoshop while editing my magazine. I now know how to edit on a more advanced level than
previously, meaning I can create something more effective than I could during the preliminary
task.
Overall, I think I have become more confident in using
Photoshop as well as cameras, as I did not have any knowledge
when I started the course.
I think this is clear when looking at the differences between my
first magazine and my final music magazine.
