DEscription:A web page designed to showcase a logo personally designed by me.
Date: June 26, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:TextwranglerAdobe Illustrator
Objectives:-Learn to code in CSsSee how Html coding translates visually
Process:I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I had never seen or written any HTML/CSS. It was interesting to see how you could make a web page by only using a simple text editor. However, I had some troubles getting this done by myself and checking for errors, so I ended up getting the help from a tutor. Luckily, I was able to complete the assignment. After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my fonts to Impact and Georgia. I used padding around the logo and text so that they would not be too close to the edge of the web page. This was one of the most challenging parts of working with CSS.

DEscription:A two sided (duplex) folding brochure about a record label called Funktropolis.
Date: July 10, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:TextwranglerAdobe Indesign
Objectives:-Conceptualize complex designs and print duplex documets
Process:I set up the gateway fold in Adobe InDesign. I split my layout into three sections with the concept that the two outer sections would be the flaps of the brochure, with the logo on front and content inside as well as on the back.I used purple as a background with other colors that went with the color scheme as shapes with text inside them. I found pictures that I thought would look good for representing funk music. as for the back, I found a picture of me recording music with a carpet that would match the color scheme.
I created the logo in Illustrator using the shape tool and then I placed it into InDesign, where I used the scissors tool to cut the logo in half. I placed the left half on the right flap and the right half on the left flap so that when the brochure is folded the logo would come together nicely.

DEscription:Logo designed by me discplaying Craig Nelsons Tea
Date: June 6, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:-Learn tools in illustrator-Create original and creative images and logos
Process:I pitched three different drafts that I created in illustrator at 10 different people and asked them to take a vote. I chose the winner and refined it by aligning some things together in a better way and changing color schemes so that they wouldnt clash as much. I then created three other variations of the winner design

DEscription:A full-bleed color event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Date: May 15, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:MIcrosoft Word
Objectives:-take a scanned picture from an existing ad and incorporate it into a separate ad-In the events of a small budget, be prepared to create deisgns using only Word
Process:I scanned the picture, and then used word to crop the image. The background and words in the original picture were distracting, so I put a black and white grainy filter on the flier, to help it blend in more and to add to the graininess of the theme. I used similar fonts but with a similar style. For the body information, I decided not to write a body paragraph and instead have lines of the important information lined up in a black triangle for visual flow and ease. I used grey font color on the date time and place info and prize information to demonstrate color value.

DEscription:An inspirational montage made by the blending of two images and the use of typography.
Date: May 29, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:-Blend images together in photoshop and edit.
Process:I wanted a spiritual message that concerned fathers. After brainstorming ideas that I wanted, I searched for an image of a father and son with enough white space to where I could blend in a picture of God. I found a picture of Jesus that perfectly matched the color scheme that I had, and so I chose my second picture to be a picture of Jesus. I made the sunset picture with the father and sun the background image, and cropped it to 8.5 X 11. Then, I placed the Jesus picture into the picture and added a mask. Using black paint and 100% capacity, I took away the rough edges. With a larger black brush at about 45% opacity and 30% flow, I blended the image into the background, so it looks like he is melting into the scene. I then added type with two contrasting fonts and changed the color of the type to make it stand out against the background.

DEscription: letterhead designed using a unique and personally created logo.
Date: June 12, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:Adobe IndesignAdobe illustrator
Objectives:-incorporate several programs for one project-create proffessional letterheads with enough spacing and understanding of watermarks
Process:On adobe illustrator, I used rectangle shapes to create the movie clapboard. I used very thin white rectangles for the lines on the board and used the direct selection tool to curve white rectangles onto the clapper. I placed the logo on the top left corner, and placed my name and info from the business card on the right. I placed a large logo in the corner and set the opacity to 10%. I made a thin black line with diagonal white rectangles inside on the top and bottom for repetition and to add to the theme of the company

Objectives:-Create business cards using orginal logo.
Process:On adobe illustrator, I used rectangle shapes to create the movie clapboard. I used very thin white rectangles for the lines on the board and used the direct selection tool to curve white rectangles onto the clapper. Once I did this, I placed this logo into indesign and placed the logo onto the front side of the business card. For the back, I cropped the name of the fake company out and placed in diagonally inside of a grey circle.

Flier
DEscription:Black and white flier to promote a Leadership Conference for recent graduates.
Date: May 8, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:Adobe Indesign
Objectives:-Learn basics of indesign
Process:After drafting a few sketches for ideas, I chose one for a basic layout and used Adobe InDesign to create it. I used an Ellipse frame tool to make a circular shape for the picture and bring emphasis to the business man smiling on the phone. I used a dark box right below the picture in contrast to the white space nearby to bring emphasis to the center tagline, asking graduates if they want the competitive edge. Leaving white space was important in order to bring attention to this. I scattered date time and place at the top so that it would be easy to find, create a visual flow, and also to add variety to the flier in effort to make it visually pleasing. This is also why I made the word graduate sideways. I was given all of the content, image, and logo necessary to make this Flier.

DEscription:This project was meant to demonstrate good and original photography, along with image editing skills. Incorporation of color into a poster layout with original photo.
Date: May 21, 2015
Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 2Cory Kerr
Program(s)/tools:Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:-Take original pictures and work them into a seperate project-learn photosohp
Process:First, I rented a camera from the BYU-Idaho library, and set out to take pictures for the first part of the assignment. Realizing that I was in need of a color scheme, I debated going back out to get another picture, but then found a picture I had already taken to use for the project. I then brought the photo into Photoshop and used these specific editing techniques: levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance. Then I designed an 8.511 layout that included my photo, text, and repeating design elements. I incorporated my color scheme title, color swatches, and color names into my design after coming up with a way to incorporate the picture into a flier. I made colorful rectangles in the background and found colors to use for my font. Things still felt a little flat so I added a shadow effect to the ovals showing parts of my color scheme and the picture itself.
