The principal business before the Council will be to elect the Chairman and two members of the Business Committee. Candidates for these offices must declare their candidacy for a particular office with Beverly Hughes, Business Committee Secretary-Treasurer, by June 14, 5:00 p.m. The Council Meeting will be held in the conference room at the Potmiatomi Cultural Heritage Center Building south of Shawnee. The Potawatomi Historical Outdoor Drama "Kinan Chikote" will open the weekend festivities with a dramatic presentation of the removal of the Tribe from their homes in northern Indiana and Michigan to Kansas. This is a sequel to the drama presented last year and will be performed both Thursday night, June 23, and Friday night, June 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the northeast corner of the Pow-Wow grounds. Tribal members who wish to see the drama must plan to arrive a day earlier. During the celebration there will be a continuous showing of the art work of world- renowned Potawatomi artist \'/oodrow Crumbo and his daughter Hinisa Crumbo. Their paintings will be on display in the Historical Museum from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. An Archery Shoot will be held on Saturday between 9:00 and 11:30 a.m. following registra- tion for contestants at 8:00 a.m. The place of the shoot will be posted on the grounds. The traditional Pow-Wow will begin with Gourd Dancing at 3:00 p.m. Saturday under the arrangements made by the Potawatomi Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow Club. Host Gourd Dancers will be the Comanche Gourd Clan of Lawton. There will be additional Gourd Dancing at 7:00 p.m. with Social Dancing from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. Gourd Dancing will resume at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with give-aways and more dancing and give-aways from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Kelly Haney, Seminole-Creek artist, is the master of ceremonies for the Pow-Wow. For the necessities of life, adequate camp grounds are available with running water, electricity, tables, barbeque pits and toilet facilities. The camp grounds \<ill open for the homecoming at 4:00 p.m. Friday. At 5:00 p.m. on Saturday the Potawatomi Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow Club will proVide a variety of Indian but please bring your own dishes, silverware and chairs. A covered dish, cake or salad to spread will be appreciated, as there is never too much food. A beef ration will be provided for campers only at 8:00 a.m. Sunday and a non-denominational religious services \-.Lll be held at 12:15. Kew Tribal Administrator The Business Committee of the Citizen 3and of Potawatomi recently appointed Mrs. Rebecca Cryer as Tribal Administrator. Mrs. Cryer is a Potawatomi, a native of Wanette and a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Law and has been admitted to the Oklahom" Bar. She did her undergraduate work at th" University in Psychology. This is her first full time job although she has worked doing legal research and at various other part-time job:; while a student. She did a full lieek of research for the Tribc prior to coming aboard, becausc she kneli that once she started to work the research would have to wait. Mrs. Cryer and her husband, David, also a Potawatomi, have tliO children, Eric 12, and Aimie 14 months. They reside in Norman, Oklahoma. David and Rebecca are looking forward to meeting yuu at the Annual Pow-Wow and hope you will introduce yourselves and let them know lihat additional services you liould like the Tribe to provide for its members. We hope you will join the tribal staff in welcoming Hebecca to her neli duties as Tribal Administrator.

Annual Council Heeting - Pow-rlow &: Outdoor Drama

Notes from the Administrator

Programs. The Potawatomi staff has prepared and submitted to the proper fundingagencies proposals for the continuation of the Home Improvement Program and the Envi­ronmental Health Program. Preparation of a proposal for a continuation of the CommunityHealth Representative Program and the potawatomi Arts and Crafts Program will be sub­mitted at the appropriate times. A proposal is now being prepared for refunding theNative American Children's Center.

The Native American Children's Center is looking for equipment to be used for the careand activities of the children. Especially needed are cribs, tricycles and wagons. Ifyou have these or similar items you would like to give to the Center please call theTribal Office and they will be picked up.

Arts & Crafts. The Arts and Crafts Program is seeking more tribal participation bytribal members. Classes are held each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening from 6:00to 10:00 p.m. at the Community Building.

Recognition. Chris Negahnquet, son of Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Negahnquet has recently beencited by the Shawnee public schools for outstanding achievement in grades, perfectattendance, citizenship, art and reading.

Foundry. Progress toward establishment of the Alloy Plant is moving along. lie are inthe final stages of financing the facility and word should be received before this letteris published that final arrangements have been completed.

Distribution of Claims Settlement. The "Plan has been submitted to the Commissioner ofIndian Affairs and we are awaiting word of its submission to the Congressional Committeesfor approval. The "Plan" is for use of the twenty per cent (20%) (of the total payment)to be used in Tribal Programs. Eighty per cent (8(yfo) will be distributed in per capitapayment. We have done all that can be done and it is now a matter of waiting.

The following is a list of tribal members who do not have an address on file and somehave never had an address. A final attempt is being made to locate these people. Ifyou have any infonnation pertaining to their whereabouts or if some may be decease, pleaselet us know.

Historical Drama "Kinan Chikote" meaning "Our Fire" 7:30 p.m,-TribalGrounds, South of Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Drama will be that part ofour history where the Potawatomi Indian Nation was removed by theFederal Government from the Great Lakes Area (northern parts of Indianaand Wisconsin) to Kansas. Chiefs were hauled in caged wagons and theirpeople were driven away from their homes and the wooded forest theyloved. The general public will be invited to attend this drama and therewill be no charge.

June 24, 1977. Historical Drama - Same information as above and same time,

4:00 p.m. - Campers may begin setting up camp on Po_Wow Grounds,

9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Indian Art Exhibit. - Woody Crumbo and hisdaughter Hinisa Crumbo - Potawatomi Historical Museum on Tribal Grounds.

June 25, 1977. 8:00 a.m. - Archery Registration - Tribal Grounds.

9:00 a.m. - 11130 a.m. - Archery Shoot - Tribal Grounds - Prizes to beawarded at Pow-Wow.

9:00 a.m. - 5100 p.m. - Art Exhibit (Crumbo).

Philis Fairbanks,Kickapoo-Pawnee, is Head Woman Dancer and Head Singer is Jim Warden a KiowaIndian. The Seminole Stomp Dancers will be present to present the BuffaloDance.

June 26, 1977. 8:00 a.m. Rations of beef and supplies to campers only.

9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. - Crumbo Art Exhibit.

12:15 p.m. - Religious Services - Non-Denominational. Place of serviceto be announced at Pow-Wow. Everyone is welcome to come to this service.
