Dear Parents & Friends Education Week is here! Today we celebrated with the Official Riverina Launch of Education Week at Edward Public School. Our school captains Nicholas O’Connor and Georgie McCalman, who again, represented us well welcomed Mr Collin Parker – Regional Director, Ms Vicki Kempton – School Education Director, Principals, DEC representatives and special guests as a week of celebration of Creating the Future‖ was heralded. The importance of reading can never be over rated. Enjoying reading and loving books is encouraged and celebrated on every level, and in every place in our learning community. Fun and exciting reading events like Mrs Laker’s Reading Photo Competition always reminds us of its significance in everyday life. From the time we get up in the morning til bedtime- we read. The photos were judged today by Ms Kempton and after much deliberation she was pleased to announce this year’s winners are Noah and Tom Bradley and Riley Seymour. Thank you Mrs Laker for your organisation of this event. Later today, at an Education Week Award Ceremony at Deniliquin High School, several very hard working and dedicated members of our Edward Public School Community will be receiving awards. Congratulations to Felicity Michael, Wendy Palmer, Kim O’Neill, Christina Mildren and Will Shaw. We certainly appreciate the goodwill and prosperity you bring to our great school. Tomorrow our Year 5 and 6 students will be participating in the Leo Barry Cup at Memorial Park, while our 3 -6 students will be visiting the Deniliquin High School to watch the matinee rehearsal of their Variety Night performance. With our own Production preparation well under way, it will be with keen eyes that our students watch their more senior counterparts on the stage. A busy and enjoyable day to look forward to. Friday will be a special day for Edward as the announcement of our PBL- Positive Behaviour For Learning - Values will be made at an Education Week Assembly with a surprise guest. Special ―Value‖ awards will be presented, also, awards for the University Tests will be given. Our Home School Liaison Officer, Mrs Marshall will be presenting certificates for excellent attendance. Please come along and share in the fun. I had many visitors to my office this week from 1/2GD: Jayde, Sam and Annie had outstanding reading achievements to share in their home reading records, and Jayh, Jake, Malaki, Sam, Marandarr, Josh and Jamahl were very pleased with their writing. Mr Howell was very keen to show off his class’ art work, while 3/4HB have been busily working on finding the position of objects in mathematics. 2/3JE used their knowledge of place value to create highest and lowest two, three and four digit numbers. Our seniors are researching the Olympics while KDB and K/1GJ are coming along in leaps and bounds with the L3 program for literacy. There are so many engaging learning experiences happening in our vibrant classrooms. Did you know that we have been at school for 100 days so far in 2012? Mrs Jacobs’ class celebrated with a party in a maths kind of way. Find out more inside this newsletter. Our Creative Catchment Kids have been working on the process of book publishing. Taylah King, Laura Werner, Lourens Geldenhuys and Bianca Semple, are in the final stages of their project book. Their interesting text and colourful illustrations are commendable and their book will be a welcome addition to our school Library. Well done team. Two students- Sean Geary and Jacob Edwards will be off to Moulamein PS on Thursday and Friday for a sleep over and to enjoy the wonderful Aspire Me Visual Arts Workshops. This is a creative opportunity of wondrous proportions which these two very privileged students will remember for a long time. The creations at this event certainly are quality works of art. Sean and Jacob definitely have a lot to look forward to. Remember to keep the Coles vouchers coming in, and have a great Education Week!
