Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Carers
I wish to commend ALL of our teachers at Edward for
their high level of professionalism and commitment towards our school and its growth as a Learning Community. This
week a group of teachers has established a team to begin
looking at the way we teach ‘Positive Behaviours For Learning’. The whole school will be involved along the way
to improving our Wellbeing Systems. While our team has been in Wagga Wagga, Mrs Young has been the Principal,
assisted by Mrs Bowie and Mrs Bermingham as the APs. The executive greatly appreciates the initiative, and great job
done by our staff, stepping up to keep our school running
smoothly. We thank you for the fine job you’ve done.
Mrs Evans will be meeting with a representative from the Focus School Support Team this week to learn more about
developments with the National Curriculum. We look
forward to passing on information to you about this soon.
NAPLAN finished on Friday. The information gained from these assessments helps us in our planning for student
learning. Learning strategies for individual students will be
accessed by teachers to develop strong programs for literacy and numeracy improvement. Other, ongoing assessment for
learning is continuous in our classrooms. Teachers are presently preparing student reports which will give you an
accurate picture of your child’s achievements, at school at
this time.
The first point of entry to any school, and the one that makes the best impression, is at the front office. Mrs
Larcombe, Mrs Barlow and Mrs Mulham provide an
excellent service for our school. As much as we try to ensure that information is communicated effectively there
are always enquiries about events and related costs. Their role has evolved over the years to that of financial manager,
personal assistant, counsellor and mediators, administrators:
quite a load, and a job well done.
Our active and dynamic P&C reflects the nature of our
very supportive community through their abilities to face challenges in a positive and professional manner. The
ongoing interest in improving our school grounds and learning environment is an example of this. Positive, active
support for traditional opportunities and learning initiatives
for our students is demonstrated by our mums and dads, and wider school community in many ways. We thank you for
your involvement in our Ride-a-thon, sporting and academic activities, recent fundraising events and helpful input into
important aspects of our school’s improvement.
So when you walk into our beautiful school grounds, look
very closely at the enthusiastic and dedicated people around you and see how we provide quality learning in a positive, engaging and friendly environment .
Mark Thursday, 14th June, on your calendar for a special
Edward Public School Community Event. We are having a Free Family BBQ and Art Show in the hall from 3pm til
5:30pm. An invitation goes out to all of our families to come along and enjoy our students’ creative work, and a fun filled
afternoon. Chat to our teachers, and meet Scott and Agnetha
from our Priority Schools Program. We would love to know more about the kinds of things you would like from our
school.
This week we welcomed our first Kindergarten
Enrolments for 2013. Please let your friends and neighbours know that it is time to visit our great school with their ‘little
ones’, as enrolments are now being taken. We also welcome all of our new families to our school and are pleased to see
that the children have settled in very well.
Kerrilee Philp, our Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer will
be coming along to school tomorrow to talk to mums and dads about her role in the school, and also how our
Aboriginal Education Officers can assist students in the
classrooms. Starting with morning tea in the staffroom, ALL parents and friends are most welcome !
Best wishes,
Joy Soper Principal

Scooting and Walking to School
Mums and Dads please help us to help your children.
Recently several children in the community have been noted walking, and riding their scooters, in a dangerous
manner on the road, narrowly escaping collision with cars and buses. Please support the road safety reminders we
are giving to children in their classrooms this week, by also
talking to your children about this important safety issue.
Remember: Walk and ride on the path
Wear your helmet
Look look look before you cross the road
Walk your scooter inside the school grounds
Active After School Program
Great fun is being had by all this terms AASC Program. Children are participating in basketball and athletics
activities instructed by John Arthur from the stadium.
Just a reminder that if your child is not being collected
from the AASC Program you must supply a note to the school giving permission for your child to walk or ride
home.

you to our ‘knitting nannies’. What a wonderful job you

Creative Catchment
Yesterday the Creative Catchment kids, Laura Werner, Bianca Semple, Lourens Geldenhuys and Taylah King went to the
Yakuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre. We looked at the paintings, drawings, names of animals, plants and body in
aboriginal language. Then we went to the main room. We got split into two different groups. The first group went to
the Island Sanctuary and the second group stayed and did
weaving. The Island Sanctuary walk was very interesting to see all the different types of flora and fauna. The weaving
was fun because it was something we had never done even though it was quite fiddly.
We then made Johnny cakes after recess. They are a bit like
damper. They were fun to make. Then the groups did the Island Sanctuary walk and weaving like before, except vice
versa.
After the activity finished we had to report about how our
project was going. This years project is to write a story about the unique flora and fauna. We have chosen to write
about the Southern Pygmy Perch (fish) as we helped the pygmy perch release.
We had a wonderful time at the Yakuwa Centre.
