TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents and Friends,
Well we are off to a flying start, for a very exciting year of
learning in 2013. Students have settled quickly into their new class routines. New friendships are being made and old
special friendships are being forged. Our Kindergarten children are doing a fantastic job of settling in and are
already learning important routines. It’s lovely to see those
smiling faces. Many thanks to the mums and dads for supporting the Best Start Program for Kindergarten last
week, and special thanks to Felicity Michael and the P & C for providing the welcome morning tea for our Kinder
parents last Friday.
Our Stage Three Students are setting a fine example for
the rest of the school, guiding their younger peers in the positive behaviours that we expect from all of the wonderful
students we have here at Edward. Especially important, this week, is the support role they are providing for our new
Kindergarten children. Our buddies are doing a fine job of
helping out at recess and lunch time. Congratulations on your fine efforts!
Congratulations to our newly elected leaders. Our School
House Captains and Vice Captains for 2013 were elected by their peers in house meetings last Friday. A special
morning assembly presentation will take place of Thursday 14th Feb, where our leaders will be presented with their
badges. They are preparing for their first role as leaders of
their teams at our swimming carnival event this Friday 15th Feb. You can see them with our new House Banners which
were purchased for our school by our P & C in next week's newsletter.
Our PBL- Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons are
about to get underway. Some classes have already started teaching about our values: RESPECT. RESPONSIBILITY.
SAFETY. Our lists of expected behaviours and the values will
be prominently displayed in our classrooms this week, and
we invite our mums and dads to visit the classrooms and
have a look at them with the children.
School bus zones, and pedestrian crossings are high priority safety zones for our children before and after school.
We have received a request to remind mums and dads about making sure these areas are kept clear of vehicles
both in the morning drop off time, and after school pick up time. Our bus drivers, like us, are particularly concerned
about the welfare of our students in these zones.
Very soon, classes will be busy electing their Student
Representative Council reps -2 per class. This meeting point for students provides the forum for students to
discuss, and be part of the decision making process for their school. Students learn important skills in communication,
leadership, problem solving and decision making.
Next week, Week 4, 21st February, parents/ carers will have the opportunity to attend a welcome barbeque, and
information session with your child’s teacher. These
sessions are general in nature: you will hear about such things as learning and behavioural expectations, homework,
when and how student progress is reported, how to make an appointment for an individual interview with a teacher,
any excursions or camps that are planned as well as an outline of topics of work to be covered during the year in
each of the six Key Learning Areas. I would like to
emphasise that these sessions are not a time for parents to have individual interviews with the teacher, but you may like
to make a time for an interview at a later date. Session Times:
KGJ, K/1DB, 1D, 2JE 6:00pm -6:30pm
2/3EJ, 3/4 DY, 4/5PH 6:30pm -7:00pm 5/6NB, 5/6RB 7:00pm -7:30pm
The first session starts at 6.00pm and goes for about half an
hour. We have spread the sessions over the evening to
allow for parents/ carers to visit all of their children’s classes. If you are unable to attend the sessions please let
the teacher know and any information handed out can be forwarded to you. Please leave a little time to enjoy the
barbeque before heading off to your child’s class.

Edward P&C 2013
What is P&C? It is a group of interested parents. No special skills or
qualifications are required- just enthusiasm!
What does the P & C do? We GET INFORMATION, we GIVE FEED-
BACK and we FUNDRAISE towards projects that will improve the school for our chil-
dren.
What happens at P&C meetings? We meet in the staffroom. We have an informal
meeting where we hear a report from the Principal about what’s going on at the
school. We discuss possible projects for money to go towards and we organise
events like working bees or upcoming fundraisers.
How long do P&C meetings take? Usually about an hour which includes a cup of
tea!
Why should I get involved with the P & C? There are heaps of reasons…
Your children will love seeing you involved with their school
You will have a say in what’s going on in your children’s school
It’s a great way of meeting other parents and staff in the school
WE NEED YOU!!!
