Dear Parents and Friends, I had a lovely conversation with a gentleman at my office window yesterday afternoon. He sang the praises of the teachers who influenced the growth of his own children’s lives and the importance of their influence on the young adults they had become. I was reminded of the very significant impact that we, as school staff have on the young ones in our daily care. A teacher’s kind words are craved for by our students. A positive acknowledgement, and praise for work well done can carry the timbrels of joy beating to the core of the inner child. A child’s self- esteem, wellbeing, self- worth are feelings that are so easily influenced by the words and actions we choose. Fragile minds are strengthened by our positive belief and praise. Our children do the best that they can do at any time. Some days are better than others, and some moments are priceless. The support of such caring professionals here at Edward Public School highlights the high level of understanding and professional commitment of our teachers to ‘putting students first’. Adjustments to learning and social development programs ensure the individual needs of every student are met. A small achievement for one student may be a monumental milestone for another. Remember equity is about every child getting what they need – not everyone getting the same. We, here at Edward, proudly make the difference. While we fondly talk about the memories of our school days, it was remembrance of a different kind that we commemorated on Sunday 11 th November 2012- Remembrance Day. We were reminded for a brief, but powerful moment of the freedom we have to learn, and the freedom that Australians proudly claim as our right to a quality education for all. The speaker referred to the little girl in Afganistan, who bravely proclaimed the passion for an education for girls in her country, and lost her life to her cause. We are grateful for our freedoms, and for those who gave their lives so we may have them. Many thanks to Nicholas O’Connor, our School Captain, for laying the floral tribute for Edward at this very important event. It is with mixed emotions this week that we farewell Miss Hulands. She will be leaving us to take on her new role of parent- the most important, and sometimes the most exciting and challenging job in the world. Thank you Miss Hulands for the wonderful work you have done for our students, and we wish you all the very best of health and joy on your exciting new journey. Please come back to visit us with your new baby, soon! We welcome Mr Bradley back to Edward for the final weeks of Term 4. Mr Bradley will be the class teacher for 3/ 4HB til the end of the year. Math for Parents Sessions are on Wednesday (tomorrow)! Find out about: those tricky math questions you always wanted to ask about; what’s happening with homework; and how to help with maths at home. There will be two sessions held. The first is at 9:15 am in the morning. Come along and enjoy morning tea and a chat. If you would like to come along to the afternoon session at 5:00pm, please complete the tear off slip in the newsletter, and send it to the office Wednesday morning- this will help us with catering arrangements. See you there! All WELCOME! Another important week of learning has passed by, and we are well under way with the reporting process. Students are putting their best boot forward, as they continue to learn in their classrooms, on the playing fields, on excursions and through the multitude of opportunities we provide here at Edward. Our teachers, this week will be engaged in Professional Learning Sessions with our Learning and Support Teacher. Adjustments to Learning, for individual students, in all educational ventures at Edward will be explored. These sessions will be productive for forward planning, and sharing of assessment, planning and programming ideas. Our Kinder- Year 6 2013 Buddy Program is an important project. Being given the opportunity to gain responsible leadership skills is esteem building and creates success for our senior students who have taken this very important role to heart. By the end of the program, every student will have participated. It is important for our new kinders to have that special friend at school, and equally important for our seniors to experience the feelings of being needed, and being important in our school. They have a very special relationship with their buddy. Congratulations to all of our Year 5 students! Thank you, Mrs Bowie, you’re a champion! Leadership nomination forms are ready to be distributed to our Year 5 students. The role of Captain or Prefect is an extremely highly regarded and honoured position at Edward Public School. Dear Parents and Friends,

I had a lovely conversation with a gentleman at my office

window yesterday afternoon. He sang the praises of the teachers who influenced the growth of his own children’s

lives and the importance of their influence on the young adults they had become. I was reminded of the very

significant impact that we, as school staff have on the

young ones in our daily care. A teacher’s kind words are craved for by our students. A positive acknowledgement,

and praise for work well done can carry the timbrels of joy beating to the core of the inner child. A child’s self- esteem,

wellbeing, self- worth are feelings that are so easily influenced by the words and actions we choose. Fragile

minds are strengthened by our positive belief and praise.

Our children do the best that they can do at any time. Some days are better than others, and some moments are

priceless. The support of such caring professionals here at Edward Public School highlights the high level of

understanding and professional commitment of our teachers

to ‘putting students first’. Adjustments to learning and social development programs ensure the individual needs of every

student are met. A small achievement for one student may be a monumental milestone for another. Remember equity is

about every child getting what they need – not everyone getting the same. We, here at Edward, proudly make the

difference.

While we fondly talk about the memories of our school days,

it was remembrance of a different kind that we commemorated on Sunday 11th November 2012-

Remembrance Day. We were reminded for a brief, but

powerful moment of the freedom we have to learn, and the freedom that Australians proudly claim as our right to a

quality education for all. The speaker referred to the little girl in Afganistan, who bravely proclaimed the passion for an

education for girls in her country, and lost her life to her

cause. We are grateful for our freedoms, and for those who gave their lives so we may have them. Many thanks to

Nicholas O’Connor, our School Captain, for laying the floral tribute for Edward at this very important event.

It is with mixed emotions this week that we farewell Miss Hulands. She will be leaving us to take on her new role of

parent- the most important, and sometimes the most exciting and challenging job in the world. Thank you Miss

Hulands for the wonderful work you have done for our

Another important week of learning has passed by, and we

are well under way with the reporting process. Students are putting their best boot forward, as they continue to learn in

their classrooms, on the playing fields, on excursions and through the multitude of opportunities we provide here at

Edward. Our teachers, this week will be engaged in

Professional Learning Sessions with our Learning and Support Teacher. Adjustments to Learning, for individual

students, in all educational ventures at Edward will be explored. These sessions will be productive for forward

planning, and sharing of assessment, planning and programming ideas.

Our Kinder- Year 6 2013 Buddy Program is an important project. Being given the opportunity to gain responsible

leadership skills is esteem building and creates success for our senior students who have taken this very important role

to heart. By the end of the program, every student will have

participated. It is important for our new kinders to have that special friend at school, and equally important for our seniors

will have carefully considered the leadership commitment

and responsibility that is expected of these senior positions in our school. Remember the nomination forms need to be

handed in on time. Congratulations and a huge thank you is extended to those who nominate for making the effort.

Remember the positions are open to ALL Year 6 2013

students- so get your nomination in!

The Positive Behaviour For Learning Team is busily working away. Our list of minor and major playground

behaviours and the positive, teaching and learning

consequences is under construction. Adding to our already productive learning environment, the way we will be

teaching students the expected behaviours in our school is expected to have exciting results. The first of several

sheets is included in this newsletter. If you would like to add to the list, please do, and pop the sheet in the values

box in the office foyer.

Stage One Excursion to Hay and what a great day was

had by all! Early to rise, a very excited bunch of Year 1 and 2 students boarded the bus for a day of adventure in Hay.

Shearing was a highlight, and I’m pleased to hear that our

students asked some very interesting and challenging questions. Everyone came home full of news of the day,

and knowledge from the enjoyable learning experience. Thank you, teachers, for going the extra mile.

Walking around the classrooms this week, I’ve been treated to some extra specially interesting project

presentations. In Miss Hulands class I enjoyed learning from the presentation by Jack Michael, and viewed some

very exotic photos of giraffes brought in by Olivia

Larcombe-Wellard. Callum Dunn shared his project about the maned wolf and I was allowed to keep his project

about the maned wolf in my office for the day. Thanks Cal, it was great.

A very exciting adventure is happening in Mr Days class on Monday afternoons. David Smith from DHS and Letitia Ross

from Yarkuwa join Mr Day and Mrs Worland and our Aboriginal Education Officer, Lisa Jones for a very engaging

afternoon of cultural enrichment, and learning activity. All kinds of textures and materials were explored to create

art and craft pieces which are now proudly on display. The

children were very excited about the feathers and sand.

Please remember to look before crossing the road. When

the flags are out you still need to look both ways, and wait for the cars and buses to stop, before crossing the road.

Congratulations to Jackson Jeffries who waited very patient-ly, for a very long time, to be accompanied by an adult to

cross our very busy road. Well done!

Very busy times are ahead of us in the weeks to come. Do

something nice for someone this week!

Best wishes
