Q2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
• The image on the front cover has to attract the target audience by letting them draw a connection between the artist and themselves.• This means the musician framed has to appear as
someone the reader can identify with. Therefore the age has to be based on the main age group of the readership as much as the style and outer appearance. • The presented personality has to be attractive
rather than repellent which excludes threatening and unpleasant contents.
Direct eye contact with the audience open/nothing to hide
Confident facial expression knows what she wants
Basic make up, no highlights around the eyes or cheeks friendly/natural
Long dark hair feminine appearance
Wearing a dress elegance
The pose on the knees fit/flirty
Red Lipstick danger
Messy hair style wild/rebellious
Black colour of the dress mischief
Red electric guitar bold/insurgent
The artist on the front cover represents a typical role model for the target audience who are mainly girls aged between 15 and 25. They are looking for their own individual way of presenting themselves like the musician is doing it.She manages to break out of the stereotypical female appearance: being weak, helpless and hopeless. Instead she comes along as a confident and wild woman who knows what she wants. Still her looks do not suffer from this but are emphasised by her attitude. Representing the change from being an insecure girl to becoming a strong and handsome woman who stands up for herself this artist encourages the target audience and seems appealing to them.
