WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM CREATING YOUR COLLEGE MAGAZINE?

EXPLAIN THE THOUGHTS BEHIND THE DESIGN FOR YOU COLLEGE MAGAZINE? WHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE BY AGE AND GENDER? HOW DOES YOUR MAGAZINE LINK TO THAT?

The Primary Audience for my magazine is 16-19 year old students, attending Sunderland College. Both males and females will be reading my college magazine so the colours I have used (black and white), are gender neutral. As well as this, I have used a simple font which is easy to read but is also bolded so it stands out.

The Secondary Audience for my magazine may be school leavers who are considering joining Sunderland College, this is why I have included the college logo underneath the masthead to advertise the college and show the reader which college the magazine is talking about. Another secondary audience may be the teaching staff at the college who want to be kept up to date with event and other things going on around the college.

As my target audience would be teenagers I have kept the text used on the cover and contents page short and to the point instead of using overly complex phrases, as that might put some people off the magazine as they might not want to read something that is too complicated.

I have included essential information on the cover, this includes the date of publication, the issue number and the price. This can all be found underneath the masthead on the left hand third so it is easy to see. This is also where a lot of my subheadings are so the reader will be drawn to this text and they will be able to see what is included in the magazine and judge whether they want to read it or not.

The main image is of a student smiling, this shows that Sunderland College is a happy and positive environment to work in. This would appeal to the secondary audience, who may want to apply to join this college, this would give them a good impression of the college.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT YOUR BLOG DOING THIS TASK?

By creating my college magazine, I have learnt how to navigate my way around my blog and it has became less complicated to use. As well as this, I have found out how I can add images to my blog and position them next to one another.

HOW DID YOU EDIT YOUR IMAGES? WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU PICKED UP BY DOING THIS?

I edited my image on the Photoshop computer programme. I have brightened as well as contrasted my image to make it stand out more. I also adjusted the colours to make it more of a subtle image and so it wasn’t too overpowering.

HOW WILL YOU USE THESE SKILLS IN CREATING YOU MUSIC MAGAZINE?

I will use these skills when creating my music magazine as I will alter the brightness and contrast of the photos. As well as this I can use the other forms of editing to flip or invert the images I will be using in my magazine.

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR COLLEGE MAGAZINE?

I am happy with elements of my college magazine. For example, I like how I have included a lot of subheadings on my front cover and as well as the essential information. However, I feel as if I could have utilised the space on my contents page more and possibly used a different, bolder font for my masthead. I am not very happy with the image I have edited and will improve my editing skills when I make my Music Magazine.
