hello grizzlies Get ready for the thrill of your life, introducing
District Convention 2016’s theme, Cirque du Ser-
vice: The 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular! For the first
time in KIWIN’S history, our convention will be held
at Los Angeles Airport Marriott, one of the largest
venues yet, from April 15th to the 17th.
Lucky for us, we will be celebrating not only our
beautiful service, but also our organization’s 40th
birthday! WOAH 4 DECADES?! There is so much in
store for the members so be sure not to miss out!
With that being said, it is never too early to start
promoting to your members and it will make a
huge difference in your club’s attendance! In the
next few pages, I have compiled tips and tricks to
implement throughout the year so that, together,
we can build a great district and obtain our goals!
Best of Luck,
Charissa Nguyen
District Convention Chair 2015-2016
GUIDE TO MARKETING DCON P. 6
Ask your Kiwanis club for help in subsidizing costs Your Kiwanis clubs are here to help! If you ask early enough in the year, the Kiwanians will be able to set aside money in their budget to help lower costs. Introduce DCON to prospective members at club rush ex. “What is KIWIN’S?” “KIWIN’S is a club dedicated to serving the community and making friends while doing so! Near the end of each year, hundreds of mem- bers across California, Nevada, and Hawaii gather at our convention to celebrate a wonder- ful year, learn new things, cheer like crazy, and meet new people! It’s super duper fun.” Explain DCON more into depth at interest meeting show theme release video, old talent show foot- age, past recap videos, etc. (more in resources) Promote dues emphasize that you MUST be a dues-paid mem- ber to attend DCON
Encourage members to attend Fall Rally this is the first district event of the school year and it will give your members a taste of KIWIN’S Promote KIWIN’S week seize this opportunity to make your members KIWIN’S fanatics Involve your members in DCON awards invite your members to take part in the tal- ent, oratorical, and essay contest to inspire them to attend Start fundraising and saving up it’s never too early to start and every dollar counts; members will be more inclined to go if the price is made affordable and the emphasis to save up is made from the start
Motivate your members to apply for the District Convention Backdrop Contest and T-shirt Contest
flyer details will be released in January
Show Call to Convention video at your club meeting and share it on your club pages
District Board will release Call to Convention video in January so please look out for that

Push members to attend Division Spirit Nights
this will help get members pumped and teach them new cheers to utilize
Hold a District Convention Club Boot Camp
go over dress code, code of conduct, daily schedule, packing list, and help prepare members that couldn’t attend spirit nights
Make sure Sergeant-at-Arms and House-of-Delegates forms are filled out and Section 2 Awards are ready to go
Throwback to past District Conventions hype up DCON to your fellow members by com- menting on old photos and bringing back the good memories Have members speak at club meetings
by having people share their firsthand experi-ences, the stories are a lot more personal and have a stronger effect on new DCON-goers LAST CHANCE TO PAY DUES (remind members) Register for On-Time Registration more detailed instructions will be re leased in DCON Manual
GUIDE TO MARKETING DCON P. 8
1 Have members commit to DCON
from the beginning of the year by
having monthly payments that splits
the large cost into manageable por-
tions. (Camarillo High School)
2 Create a DCON Committee to focus
on promoting and prepping your
club for convention. If your club is
too small to have a committee, ap-
point a general member or board
member as a DCON Chair!

3 Devise a tier system to encourage
members to volunteer as well as go
to DCON! Make 6 tiers based on av-
erage number of hours (around 20
hours). When each tier is reached,
$10 is subtracted from the DCON
cost. Board members and commit-
tee members get a bonus of hours
for their behind the scenes work. (Fountain Valley High School)
GUIDE TO MARKETING DCON P. 10
Establish a service–hours and fund-
raiser participation quota for eligibil-
ity to go to DCON. This creates more
active members and the money
raised will lower prices for DCON. (Camarillo High School)
