Different types in use

Part No. Use

17454530 Low pre-load/Soft draft gear used on WDP4/WDP4D locomotives

17451115 High capacity draft gear with yoke assembly (pre-shortened) with alignment control used on WDG4 locomotives

11535933 H-Type tight lock coupler assembly with soft draft gear & yoke assembly used on passenger WDM3D (ALCO) locomotives

11535945 H-Type tight lock coupler used on passenger WDP4D locomotives

17454505 E-Type coupler used in old WDP4 passenger locos

17451103 E-Type coupler used in WDG4 Freight locos

11032753 E-Type coupler alongwith MK-50 draft gear used in ALCO (WDG3A) locos

Page 3: CBC

Superior design / Tight lock H-type

Advantages:

Machined contour to eliminate slack

Machined hole with bush

Machined pin

Interlock design (Anti-climbing feature)

Used universally on passenger locomotives

Draft gear comparison for freight locos

MK-50 or RF-361 NC-390 with yoke assembly

ALCO / WDG3A WDG4/WDG5/WDG4D

Single coil springs/Rubber Springs Elastomeric springs

Play between load transfer plate, draft gear and coupler tail end, play between pin and yoke / tail end shank hole leading to jerks during load transfer

Pre-shortened within yoke leading to a pre-load when installed, machined pin for better dimensional control, holes of yoke and shank provided with bush to minimize play between pin and hole thereby minimizing jerks during load transfer

Yoke does not have alignment control feature

Yoke provided with alignment control feature

Conforms to 49-BD Conforms to 49-BD

Tail end hole provided with bushing

Single hole tail design shank Fork design tail end of shank

Length 905 mm Length 724 mm

Conforms to 56-BD Conforms to 56-BD

Slack between unmachined pin & tail end shank hole and gap between knuckles contour

Less slack due to better dimensional control in hole dia and finished pin dia & near net casting of contour

Tail end design does not support alignment control

Tail end design has contours to match alignment plungers of yoke assembly for alignment control feature
