Greetings Colleagues!
The training we had last month on Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) went very well. Lynn McKenzie from KMPG did a wonderful job at outlining the trends of GRC. I am looking forward to having her return in the new chapter year.
Speaking of the new chapter year, we are looking for those willing to volunteer in the coming year. We will need Officers as well as Chairperson or Co-Chairperson(s) for Membership, Academic & Corporate Relations, Audit and other areas. If you would please consider volunteering, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Elections will occur in April.
For those interested in obtaining your CIA designation, the IIA’s CIA Learning System Self-Study Materials are a great resource to assist you in accomplishing this professional goal. Visit the chapter’s website for more details.
Mark your Calendars for our February 15th
Half Day Seminar on IT Fraud and Identity Theft. The topics will be presented by Dr. Robert Hurt, CFE from Cal Poly Pomona and David
Wall, JD, CFE from EP Forensic & Valuations Services LLP, respectively. Register early, as space is limited.

Standards are principle-focused and provide a framework for performing and promoting internal
auditing. The Standards are mandatory requirements consisting of:
Statements of basic requirements for the professional practice of internal auditing and for
evaluating the effectiveness of its performance. The requirements are internationally applicable
at organizational and individual levels.
Interpretations, which clarify terms or concepts within the statements.
It is necessary to consider both the statements and their interpretations to understand and apply the Standards correctly. The Standards employ
terms that have been given specific meanings as noted in the Glossary, which is also part of the Standards. Each month, we’ll list a section from
the Standards to help readers brush up on mandatory requirements for internal auditors.
2030 – Resource Management: The chief audit executive must ensure that internal audit resources are appropriate, sufficient, and effectively
deployed to achieve the approved plan.
2040 – Policies and Procedures: The chief audit executive must establish policies and procedures to guide the internal audit activity.
2050 – Coordination: The chief audit executive should share information and coordinate activities with other internal and external providers of
assurance and consulting services to ensure proper coverage and minimize duplication of efforts.
