Fall Semester Classes Begin (28th)Quarterly Staff Meeting Recap

I had to go take some items to the Cashier's Office the other day and Monica Bosworth's daughter stopped by to visit her mom...Monica showed her the blue paper boomerang that we got at the Staff Meeting a few weeks prior. Monica was

successfully throwing and catching the boomerang and was attempting to teach her daughter how to throw it, too. The next thing we know... The boomerang is hanging from the EXIT sign! It got stuck! Monica got it down quickly without

any trouble, but not before I demanded a picture.

Now speaking of the staff meeting and boomerangs, was it just me? Or were you guys surprised by the principles that we were able to draw from a simple hobby? Did it make any of you think about your other hobbies and what life lessons could be learned from them? Here are some of the principles that

were drawn at the meeting (as well as some other valuable lessons learned)...

1. What goes around comes around

2. If you expect nothing, you'll never be disappointed

3. With little direction you can accomplish a lot

4. Try not to be too open minded, your brain could fall out

5. Stick to the principles

6. Don't tug on Superman's cape

7. The leading wing (boss/supervisors) needs the trailing edge (team/coworkers) to be successful in flight

8. Don't eat yellow snow

9. Be nice to your co-workers: they could throw a boomerang at you and hurt you if they wanted to

10. All's well that ends well

11. We probably all have cool, unusual, hidden talents that we can discover by getting to know each other

12. Never spit into the wind

13. Whitney Pugh is a dangerous man with 50+ boomerangs on hand—and he knows how to use them

14. Don't bite off more than you can chew

15. There is more than one way to be right/to do things

16. Don't let the bed bugs bite (right, Gina?)17. Beware of preconceived notions

18. Never buy a car you can't push

19. Different shapes can perform the same functions

20. Never underestimate your ability to draw 20+ meaningful lessons from an seemingly unrelated activity

Allen Dawes was nominated and has been selected to be the representative of Employee Recognition for the Staff Employee Association (SEA) of USU. As you all know, he was named Employee of the Month in November of 2016 and then he earned the title of Employee of the YEAR shortly after that! Congratulations, Allen! We're lucky to know and work with you. We appreciate your efforts and the hard work you do day in and day out. As

for everyone else, you better start buttering Allen up if you want to have a shot at being employee of the month

Ingredients:

- 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts (sliced thin)- 6 slices of cut bacon, cooked and chopped (or a bag of real bacon bits)- 4-6 slices of sliced cheese (mozzarella or Havarti)- 1 cup heavy cream- ½ tsp black pepper- Salt to taste- ½ cup chicken broth- 1 tsp garlic powder- 1 tsp parsley (fresh or dried)- ¾ cup parmesan cheese- ½ cup spinach- ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes (or ½ cup of chopped tomato)(For extra sauce, double chicken broth, heavy cream, and cream cheese)

Tried and True Testimonial: A delicious dish—it is rich, savory, and reminds me of Olive Garden!—Tyler Himes

Tyler Himes is a certified scuba diver! He has been diving at Catalina Island in California, as well as in Belize and Cozumel while on a cruise with his family. I asked if he's ever seen a shark while diving and he said he hasn't... YET. His dream scuba diving destination is the Great Barrier Reef located in northeastern Australia.

Let the games begin! * If the object is yours, you are automatically disqualified from participating.

Each month’s newsletter will feature a difficult (or not-so-difficult) to identify object that can be found somewhere on Utah State’s campus or right inside of our very own office. The first person to report, to Abby, what and where the object is will receive a prize*. Who knows? It could be a free Aggie Ice Cream cone.

Bacon & Cheese Smothered Chicken

June's “WHAT’S THAT?” Object: June's WHAT’S THAT? Object has finally been found! Sharyn Bradfield is the detective that was able to find the toy car that Dan has on his bookshelf in his office. Good job, Sharyn!

Congrats!or year for next year! I hear he responds well to bribes...

Can you believe this month marks the 1 year anniversary of the Controller's Office newsletter? Volume 1 of the newsletter was sent out in August of 2016. Time flies! As always, I'm accepting content suggestions, recipes, and leads for stories. I'll even take funny jokes, photos, and memes. If you come across some priceless humor—don't be stingy—send it my way and I'll find a way to incorporate it!

August 21, 2017 is the Solar Eclipse! The moon will cover 95% of the sun at the height of the eclipse here on USU's campus. The partial eclipse will begin at 10:15 AM, and the maximum eclipse will occur at 11:34 AM. Expect significant darkening & a noticeable drop in temperature!
