Thanks to everyone who managed to attend an interview for their child. If you were not able to do that last week you are most welcome to contact the teacher and arrange a suitable time to meet them. The next formal opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher will be in early August. Left Prop e rty During the term we have gathered up lots of lost property! If you are missing any pieces of clothing you are more than welcome to call by and check out the pile we have in the room opposite Room 3. Anything that hasn’t been claimed by the end of the term will be given to a good home. Christchurch During the past few weeks we have had 34 children from Christchurch/Canterbury schools in our classrooms. At present we still have 9 students with us. That could change over the holidays I expect. Before School Care This is a reminder that a Before School Supervision Programme operates Monday to Friday. The purpose of the programme is to assist families who have to leave home early in the mornings. Children can be left at the library where they will be supervised by Karen Simeon from 7:30 am to 8:30 am when they can enter the school. The cost for this service is $1 per day. Totara Swimming Gala Recounts I passed others one by one. I was determined to win. Our arms sliced through the water, our legs kicking hard. My legs were moaning of tiredness, wanting it all to be over. I was desperately pulling my shivering hands through the water. I certainly was not going to lose. So with one more muscular pull and a really hard kick I then hit the wall and it was all over. The torture of pulling and kicking, the sting of chlorine in your eyes and water in your ears. We were swimming for approximately 30 seconds, but it seemed like forever until we stopped. (Frankie, Year 5) CLAP! Went the solid wooden jaws and I shot off into the freezing water, desperate to win. As I dropped I heard the crowd buzzing and my heart was pounding. SPLASH! With all of my strength I propelled through the water slicing a path. Wave-like hands of the water tried to push me back. I turned to one side and saw an arm. “NO!” I cried and encouraged myself to go faster and faster… did I make it? Suddenly I heard loud claps and cheers… I had come second. ROOM 2 CAMPTuesday 5th AprilLast week Room two went to Bethany Park inKaiteriteri. We all had lots of fun. We did mountainbiking, rock climbing, archery, low ropes, made

bivouacs, confidence course, kayaking, orienteering, water sliding, Ed’s alley and lots more. Oh yeah andwe walked to Anchorage from Marahau. As I said itwas a lot of fun. On our last day we went to littleKaiteriteri beach, which was where we did our kayaking. Unfortunately it was raining, which was ashame and we all got soaked. It was the best camp Ihave ever been to! Jenna

From Monday the 28th to Friday the 1st of April RoomTwo went on camp. To get money for camp we ranaround the front field every day for eight minutes; we

got people to sponsor us for it. Every four laps we doof the front field is one km. It is sixty-four km fromNelson to camp Bethany in Kaiteriteri, the place wewent to.These are things we did on Camp.Monday - we went to the Ngarua caves. After that wegot our togs and went swimming at the Riwakaresurgence.Tuesday - We started doing our activities. They wereMountain Biking, Archery, Confidence course, Rock Climbing.Wednesday - we did the four hour walk to Anchorage.Thursday - we built bivouacs to build on our survivalskills.Friday - we had a wet day at the beach. We had a great time. Siobhan

On Monday the first day of Room Two’s camp atBethany Camp, Kaiteriteri we walked from the car park to the staggering Riwaka spring. We were going tojump into the extremely, bitterly, arctic water. Whenwe jumped in we had chilly and icy expressions. Our mouths plummeted open and we were determined to getout as briskly as possible. Except we couldn’t justquickly get out, we had to survive the paralysis fromthe water until we’d swum around the rough rock to getout. That was camp. Rohan T

News ReportWhile Room Two was at Bethany Park in Kaiteriterithey did some fun activities including Mountain Biking,Archery, Flying down the waterslide and lots more. They learned how to build bivouacs (huts made of sticks and ferns). They navigated their way throu8ghthe camp in pitch black night while playing spotlight.

The searched and scavenged along the beach to findvarious items in the rainy weather. They skidded their way down, down hill tracks, falling off sometimes. OnWednesday they had a great camp concert after a longand tiring walk. In all it was a wonderful camp!Sam M and Rohan O.
