This Week

CRCT Testing takes place this week. Students will be allowed to work on their reading fair project during my class period (they may read the book, or work on the board).

Homework Reading logs were distributed on Monday . They are due on Tues-day. These reading logs are not mandatory. If completed, they will serve either to replace an old zero, or as extra credit.

READING FAIR

We will be having a Reading Fair after CRCT. It is somewhat similar to a Science Fail, in that students will present their find-ings on a tri-fold board, and the boards will be judged. Students have already chosen their books and have received instructions. The fair will be held on May 7. You are welcomed to come in and observe.

THE HORNETS ARE GOING TO SPAIN!!!!!

If you would like your child to have an enriching overseas ex-perience, consider sending him/her to Spain with us next summer.

If you know for sure that you would like to send your child (or come along yourself) go

ahead and register. EF tours of-fers a great monthly payment plan!

If you have any questions email me at [email protected] or log on to our tour website at www.eftours.com/1398038RN

Tutorial: I will not hold tutorial this week, nor will there be Saturday School.

Lost Documents: If your child loses any docu-ments I distribute, you can find them on my website:

http://mrsbrowningreading.weebly.com

Classroom Needs: Thank you, thank you , thank you to those who have donated tissue and wipes. I still low on those items. While I can provide a small amount of those things, I certainly cannot do so for 175 students. If you are able to send in any of the above items, I would be extremely grateful.

Questions, concerns: If you have any additional ques-tions or concerns, feel free to

contact me @ 404-767-7730, ext. 130, or [email protected].

While at the 8th grade campus, I will be available via email. I may not, however, be able to respond as quickly as usual, as I will be administering the test. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding.

Thank you,

Mrs. Browning

Dear HCMS Parent, Spring standardized testing ramps up this week Throughout the year, Fulton students participate in standardized testing as part of the statewide testing program. Spring, however, is an especially important testing season due to the CRCT for elementary and middle school students and the EOCT for high-schoolers. Beginning this week, students in third through eighth grade will take the Georgia Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests. The purpose of the CRCT is to provide information on academic achievement at the student, class, school, system and state levels. Middle and high school students also face high-stakes testing. End-of-course tests, given in identified subjects, will begin on April 28th. This information is used to identify individual student strengths and weaknesses and to gauge the quality of education throughout Fulton County and the state. We encourage you to help your children do their best on these tests by making sure they are in school every day, and especially on testing days. Tests reflect the overall achievement of a child and time spent in learning situations increases the likelihood of doing well. Other helpful testing tips include: * Give your child encouragement. Praise him/her for the things done well throughout the year. A child who is afraid of failing is more likely to make a mistake. * Ensure that your child has a well-rounded diet. A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind. Make sure your child has a good breakfast on testing days and every day. * Keep the lines of communication open between home and school. Parents and teachers should work together to benefit the child. * Make sure your child is well rested on school days. Tired children are less likely to pay attention in class or to handle the demands of classwork and tests. * Try not to be overly anxious about test scores. Too much emphasis on test scores can be upsetting to children. * Don't judge a child on the basis of a single test score. Test scores are not perfect measures of what a child can do. There are many other things that might influence a test score. For example, a child can be affected by the way he/she feels that day, physically and/or mentally. * Follow normal routines. Interruptions of normal routines may affect your child's performance. * Don't forget eyeglasses or hearing aids. If your child wears an assistive device, such as glasses or hearing aids, be sure he/she remembers to bring it and wear it during all testing sessions. Plan ahead for medical appointments. Avoid scheduling doctor's or dentist's appointments during testing times.

x Leave all electronic devices at home, as they are not allowed in the testing environment.
