I pray that you all had an enjoyable and refreshing break. New Staff We welcome a number of new staff to our College this term: • Hanneke Kubler is joining us as Secondary Food Technology Teacher • Maurice Litzow has joined us as Trade Training Centre trainer • Kay Buckland will join us in the coming weeks as a Secondary Mathematics and Science teacher. It has been great that God continues to provide wonderful staff at the College. We welcome them and look forward to the wonderful contribution that they will make to our community. Reimagining Practice Last week, staff engaged in two exciting professional learning opportunities. Around 27 staff travelled to Adelaide for an International Transforming Education Conference, and the rest of our staff attend a conference style learning time here at Marrara. The theme of both conferences was ‘Reimagining Practice'. This was a really exciting and invigorating time that fired the imagination of staff. We began to draw some of these themes out on Monday as a whole staff as we continue to learn, develop and grow our practice. As we kick of Term 3, I would like to share a prayer that the Apostle Paul wrote while in prison to the church in Ephesus; "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:16-18. It is my hope for this term that we as a whole community may continue to grasp how wide, long high and deep God's love is for each of us.

Welcome back to all our students and families to Term 3. I pray that you all had an enjoyable and refreshing break.

The College recently participated in our annual Cross Country event! Older students ran a 2.7 kilometre course over the playing fields, along tracks, through the bush, and past the school buildings. Years 1 and 2 students completed the final kilometre of the course and found a great place to cheer the other runners on. Congratulations to the first and second male and female place getters in each class group (listed below) and of course to our overall champions:

It was a beautiful morning to be outside and sharing the time together. Thankyou to all staff who kept students safe and on route, and those who manned the start and finish zones, especially Evie and Hope.

Imaginarium NewsWelcome to Term 3! This term we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of man’s first landing on the moon. It was a dramatic moment in our history that many students today will know little about.

BOOK CHARACTER ASSEMBLYIn Week 5, we will celebrate Book Week, which will culminate in the annual Book Character Assembly. It is a school wide event where students, staff and parents come dressed up as their favourite book character. This will be held on Friday, 23rd August. We encourage all parents and carers to come and enjoy the morning. The event begins about 8:45am and finishes close to 10am.

PRIMARY LIBRARY PROGRAMIn our Primary Library Program, we are showcasing new picture books to our Transition students. For the rest of primary, we are keeping a reading log to support those participating in the Tear Read-a-thon. Primary students will be borrowing books, reading in lessons, keeping a reading log and sharing our reflections with the rest of the class.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKCLUBPlease note there will be no Scholastic Bookclub running in Term 3.

JUST A REMINDER …Transition to Year 4 students need to bring a library bag if they want to borrow from the library. This may be bought, made or they can use shopping bags if they wish. We are encouraging students to care for and value the books they borrow.

Primary library lessons are on the following days;

- Monday – Transition, 1/2S- Tuesday – 1/2K, 5/6H- Wednesday – 3/4N, 5/6M, 3/4SP

Books may be borrowed for up to two weeks and then an automated email will be sent home if items are overdue.

Marrara Christian College will be running the TEAR Read-A-Thon from Monday 29th July (Week 2) until Friday the 13th September (Week 8).

WHAT IS TEAR?TEAR is an aid organisation that helps disadvantaged people around the world. The focus on the TEAR Read-A-Thon is to provide education and education supplies to people who can’t afford it.

How does it work?• Students read as many books as they can• Each student will receive a participation folder where they record the books they read. They can get one from the library or during library lessons• Students ask for people to sponsor them or donate to TEAR.• All sponsorship and donations are done online. Students do not take money themselves.• At the end of the Read-A-Thon, students return their folders to the Librarian. Students will then receive a participation certificate

Community News

Students in 5/6 have been exploring space during their Science unit. At the end of last term, they hosted a Space Museum to display research and models of individual topics they explored in class.
