“The World of Singing” – International Singing Conference Singing has a future, for today the manifold enlivening and healing effects of this art for the human being are visible all over the world. This is not only the case when experiencing concerts or singing together, but also in musical education and singing therapy. Singing, on a deeper level, can award dignity – all over the earth we are today searching for new human social forms.

In order to let the regenerating forces of singing become a manifold experience – in practising together, in performances, workshops and exchange – the Section for the Arts of Eurythmy, Speech and Music and the Association for Promotion of “The School of Un-covering the Voice” (Verein zur Förderung der Schule der Stimmenthüllung), in Bochum are organizing this International Singing Conference.

We are addressing singers, singing students and amateurs as well as friends of music and singing in the fields of art, pedagogy and therapy. Not only the conference collegium lead-ing the various workshops are of international formation but also the performing choirs, and we will enjoy a variety of songs from all over the world.

40 years after the death of the great singer, singing teacher and founder of the “School of Uncovering the Voice“ (Schule der Stimmenthüllung), Valborg Werbeck-Svärdström, we are launching an experiment with this conference because we attempt to make deceivable the development of the various singing activities, inspired by Anthroposophy. The final meeting with reports from all over the world and a conversation about the perspective of anthropsophically inspired singing impulses is open to all conference participants. The lectures and the plenum will be translated into English language simultaneously.

Conference Choir (Artistic Director Christa Waltjen): In the focus is Valborg Werbeck-Svärdströms‘ composition “The Path of the Soul through the Planetary Spheres after Death“ (Der nachtodliche Weg der Seele durch die Planetensphären). All participants are welcome! Those familiar with the music will strengthen the less experienced participants to find their part in the final choral sound. The individual preparation by studying the sheet music is welcome! Also three pieces from the “12 Moods“ (12 Stimmungen) by Jürgen Schriefer and the “Evening Serenade“ (Abendständchen) by Johannes Brahms will be rehearsed for a performance at the end of the Conference. It is not required that each one will sing in very single piece of music (*order information for sheet music see below).

Songs of the World: These three afternoon concerts are a podium for all participants to perform from the range of Folklore, one‘s own compositions, classical-romantic song repertoire and also contemporary music and improvisation. Pianists are prepared to ac-company your rehearsal and your performance. Please submit your advance notification (*see below).
