The NWBA was founded in 1948 to assist wounded and physically disabled

WWII Veterans with their rehabilitation. Within two years, the popularity of

wheelchair basketball caught on, and six VA hospital teams were organizedthroughout the United States. The PVA held three successful tournaments, but

was soon replaced by the new, highly competitive NWBA National Tournament.

Today, the NWBA is the oldest Disabled Sports Organization (DSO) in theUnited States. It consists of over 2,400 members, 210 teams, throughout 39 states.

The NWBA is affiliated with USA Basketball, the NBA, USOC, USA Paralympics and the IWBF.

The NWBA continues to work closely with disabled

veterans and wounded warriors. Our membership includesover 18% of disabled veterans, and we are actively involved

in assisting newly injured veterans at camps and clinics

throughout the US.

Each year, the NWBA hosts the largest wheelchairbasketball tournament in the worldthe NWBA
