My life at Institute of Commerce, Nirma University was very dynamic and full of learning
experiences. I am thankful to my faculty and our Dean who constantly supported us

We, at ICNU, have a broad spectrum of life that not only includes academics but also co-
circular activities like debates, poetry recitations, elocutions, finance related events, etc. We
also participate in extra-curricular activities like sports competitions, fashion shows, etc. Our
academics include rigorous in-depth assignments which give us simulation of a workplace
environment. Our teachers support us in all extension trainings like ACCA, NISM, Tally, etc.
and bring in trending subjects like International Financial Services Centre, Indirect Tax Laws
(GST), etc. so as to prepare us for our future endeavours. We also have a daily newspaper
session to be in touch with the on-going scenario of the world. All-embracing, ICNU gave me
a chance to grow in all aspects of life and I am happy to be placed as Analyst in the Risk
advisory department at KPMG, Pune.
Dr Karsanbhai K. Patel established the NERF in 1994 with a view to promote and support
higher education in India. The NERF is a trust that crystallized his long cherished dream of

The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University is a constituent Institution of Nirma University. Nirma
University and its constituent Institutions are accredited with 'A' grade by National Assessment and
Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous accreditation institution of the University Grants

The letter grade 'A' is the highest grade awarded to an institution of higher education by NAAC. This

Curriculum
The Bachelor in Commerce (Honours) intends to prepare students for their career in
Accounting or BFSI sector. It aims to develop requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes in
them to meet the challenges of the accounting, auditing, taxation and BFSI sector domains.
The programme focuses equally on theoretical and practical aspects of the above mentioned
domains, promoting an attitude of life-long learning among the students and preparing
them as a professional employee or a self-employed individual. It comprises of six semesters
(two semesters in each year) over a period of 3 years. On successful completion of the six
semesters, a degree of Bachelors in Commerce (Honours) [B.Com. (Hons.)] is awarded to the
students.

Summer Internship
We believe that it is our responsibility to develop our students as professionals right on the
campus while they are still students. We consider students as active partners in managing the
Institute and its activities such as conferences, guest lectures, seminars, placement, etc., and
ensures that they play an active role in the life of the Institute rather than being passive
recipients. They are also given opportunities to enroll themselves into various courses like
CGMA which is a Strategic Management Accounting program, NISM Certification Course and
Tally with GST. Thus, the time that students spend at the campus is designed to be the most
fulfilling period of their lives.
The students are required to undergo two Summer Internships for a period of four weeks at
the end of 2nd and 4th semesters. The internship at the end of 2nd semester, with an NGO
is aimed to enhance the skills and develop the character of students whereas the one at the
end of 4th semester is arranged at corporates to enable the students to gain practical / real-
life experience of industry/corporate world.

Computing Facilities
The University is situated about 15 kms from Ahmedabad city, on the Sarkhej – Gandhinagar
Highway. A 110-acre lush green campus in picturesque surroundings provides a refreshing
environment, stimulating intellectual alertness and creativity. The campus has an ambience
that motivates the students to grow. The University building has several amphitheaters, flat
classrooms, an auditorium with a capacity of 450 seats, computer centre, a communication
lab, a fully automated library, an art gallery, faculty and administrative blocks, conference
rooms, and other facilities. Modernity, aestheticism, and grandeur characterize the buildings.
The campus also has modern sports facilities. The overall atmosphere is distinguished by
serenity, which is conducive for intellectual pursuits.
The classrooms are equipped with multimedia and audio-visual equipment to facilitate
effective learning. Classrooms are designed to promote maximum interaction between the
faculty and students. Each classroom has internet connectivity through LAN and Wi-Fi.
Computing facilities for the students include a well-equipped lab. A state-of-the-art network
connects every corner of the Institute. High-speed servers running on a variety of platforms
to suit all kinds of requirements support the entire network. A 512 mbps dedicated optic
fiber leased line and wi-fi hotspots enable round the clock internet connectivity. The Institute
has also acquired the latest software, namely SPSS and Oracle among others. Internet and
Intranet mail servers are available to students and faculty round the clock.
Library Resource Centre (LRC)
The library provides access to a wide range of business related sources that include leading
national and international business periodicals in addition to an impressive collection of
business databases, digitized corporate annual reports, and CDs/DVDs. The library has more
than 33,500 volumes of books.
The library subscribes to 13 databases. Around 15000 e-journals are subscribed through
databases such as EBSCO's Business Source Complete, and Academic Search Complete,
Elsevier's Science Direct: Business, Management & Accounting package, Emerald
Management, JSTOR archival e-journal package and Oxford e-bundle. The library
subscribes to ISI Emerging Markets database which provides trade related
information from all over the world. The financial and economic databases
subscribed by the library are Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy's- Industry
Outlook, Ace Equity and Ace Mutual Fund from Accord Fintech, India Stat,
EPWRF India Series, Frost and Sullivan, and SCOPUS. The library also
subscribes to Indiastat.com and has Springer e-books collection. All
databases are accessible on Campus IP's and remote access is
given on request as well.
The library is fully automated through Koha: an open
source software, accessible on the campus LAN. This
user-friendly package facilitates issue and return
of books with Web-catalogue. The library has

KPMG Campus to Corporate – Employability skills workshop
The Institute organised the orientation cum induction programme for its fourth batch of
B.Com (Honours) students on July 15, 2019. The orientation cum induction programme was
inaugurated by Dr. Pankaj Singh, Senior Vice President, Data Centre Business & Group
HR, Adani Group, who graced the occasion as chief guest and CA Bishan Shah, Managing
Partner at Bishan R Shah and Company and management committee member of ICAI,
Ahmedabad chapter.
The Fresher's party was a day filled with excitement, joy, music, enthusiasm, laughter and
happiness. The very purpose of Fresher's day was to welcome newcomers in a friendly
atmosphere and avoid social evils, to encourage their creative impulses to boost their
confidence.
The hunt for talent begun on September 5, 2019 to provide platform to fresher's to showcase
their hidden skills. Various cultural, literary, and fine-arts competitions were conducted which
included dance, music, elocution, essay writing, micro tale writing, poetry, debate, and t-shirt
painting. The participants of each and every event showcased their talent in front of the
audience and showed a glimpse of the talents present in our Institute.
On the auspicious occasion of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan's 131st birthday, ICNU celebrated
Teacher's Day with the lighting of lamp and a solemn prayer to Goddess Saraswati. Following
this, the faculty members were treated to heartfelt messages by their former as well as
current students thanking them of their unwavering support during their tenure in the
University. All the faculty members then cut a cake and Dean Prof. Udai Paliwal delivered an
inspiring speech.
A social visit for students of B.com (Hons.) first year was conducted at Blind People's
Association (BPA) to inculcate values in them and create awareness on how people who are
physically or mentally challenged live their lives. The tour was divided into three sections-
Firstly, the students visited the work area of differently able people, followed by a visit to the
places where they study and learn new things to build career and lastly to give a little
practical experience of their lives, students were taken into Dark Vision Room.
The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University on 16th October, 2019 convened its very first
ever convocation ceremony for its pioneer batch 2016-2019. The event was held after the
conclusion of the majestic 28th Convocation Ceremony at University level.
The Institute is enormously proud of its scholars- Ms Ruchi Jain (BSFI) and Mr Nihit Lohiya
(Accounting) for securing Gold medal at an immensely established level. The institute is
equally proud of all its graduating students from its forerunner batch. This was followed by
inauguration of Commerce Alumni Association.
The ICNU in association with KPMG conducted a five day employability workshop for the
graduating batch of B.Com (Hons.). The highlights of the workshop were; mock interviews,
behavioral skills. Etiquettes in formal as well as informal environment, body language, Rule of
12 etc.
Life on campus for the

thrilling and exciting. The years that students spend
on the campus of Nirma University turn out to be the most fulfilling
years of their lives. Life at the Institute is vibrant and exhilarating, studded with
events and celebrations that enrich the students intellectually, transforming them into more
complete individuals. Students of the Institute plan, organize and conduct all types of

Accounting, Economics, and Finance at the Yale School of Management and Professor in
the Department of Economics.

DESI-CULT' 2020 - Ethnic Day Celebrations at ICNU
Girls take Gift City
Institute of Commerce, Nirma University organized the second edition of its two-day cultural,
literary and fine-arts festival – ELYSIAN 2.0 on November 13-14, 2019. Mr. K. K. Jain –
Managing Partner, KPMG Ahmedabad and Baroda inaugurated the event.
This year the event saw participation from over 300 students from different colleges and
universities across Gujarat. The event provided platform to students to showcase their latent
talents through various events which included dance, music, theatre events, lok sabha
debate, stock exchange games, fine arts competitions, fashion show etc. The winners of the
competitions won exciting gifts and vouchers. The event concluded with EDM night, taken
over by renowned DJ Paroma from Mumbai.
The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University organized seven days Special NSS Camp at
Kavitha (adopted village) from 10 -16 December 2019. The camp was headed by the NSS
Programme Officer Dr. Nitin Kishore Saxena and CS Karishma Butani. The NSS student
volunteers focused upon primary issues like women empowerment, women's safety,
cleanliness, sex education, marital abuse, self-defense, and employment generation, overall
development of Kavitha's school students, and awareness about the Government benefits for
villagers. The camp was a great success. The volunteers took with them many lessons and
lifetime experiences from this seven days NSS camp.
To celebrate the same enthusiasm toward our culture, the students of Institute of Commerce,
Nirma University celebrated Ethnic Day. The function started by welcoming the faculties with
tilak, a rich Indian tradition. The venue had photo booths, food stalls, and exquisite
decoration. There were different events planned for the students such as Antakshari, Fireless
Cooking and Mr and Ms Ethnic. The programs involved the participation of students as well
as faculty members.
On October 21, 2019, female students of the Institute of Commerce participated in the event
'Girls Take Gift City'. The event was organized by GIFT City in collaboration with Bloomberg
and UBS, which included sessions on financial data & news, panel discussions, and mentoring
around career options and interview tips. The event was attended by about 100 female
students from different colleges. The participants had the opportunity to tour GIFT City,

Self-Defence Workshop
National Level Case Analysis Competition (NLCAC)’ 2020
Industrial Visit to the Financial Capital of India – Mumbai
A self-defence workshop was conducted by the Women Development Cell of Institute of
Commerce, Nirma University. Workshop started with the enthusiasm and zeal to learn new
things and become confident about defending or protecting one-self in trouble, instead of
running from the situation. Useful techniques were taught in the workshop such as keeping
pepper-spray, calling Abhayam at 181 or registering at Police Heart and Grannes.
Institute of Commerce organized a National level Case Analysis Competition (NLCAC) 2020
on 31 January 2020. It was organized in association with ISTD - Ahmedabad Chapter. The
theme of the competition was Businesses Balancing Social and Economic Strings. There were
more than 120 participants of different universities such as IIT Gwalior, IIS Jaipur, Christ
Lavasa, Karnavati, P. P. Savani, PDPU, Davv Indore, Kachchh University, Prestige University -
Indore, R K Patni college, Kishangarh, Mewar girls college, VNSGU, BRCM College of Business
Administration, CU Shah, Amrut mody school of management, GLS University, ICAI -
Ahmedabad Chapter, Nirma University etc.
The Institute of Commerce, Nirma University organized an Industrial visit for third year
students of B.Com (Hons.). A total of 39 students along with 2 faculty members visited to the
Financial Capital of India, Mumbai. The purpose of visit was to gain practical knowledge of
the major financial institutes of the country. The students visited the Slums of Dharavi This
was followed by a seminar in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and an informative visit to
the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Museum.
UDGAM – The Social Club OF ICNU
“UDGAM” – The Social Club of ICNU assists with organisation of extension activities like old-
age home visits, charity drives, and such activities through which they learn to give to the
