submarines

They didnt call submarines what tthey are called now they called them turtles

Inventor David Bushnell thought he might be able to help even the score with his submersible craft. Enter the Turtle, a pedal-powered vessel that could submerge itself by flooding water into a tank, and then hand-pump the water out when it was time to surface. What a great idea!

Rifles

Rifles were not the first choice for soldiers fighting in the Revolutionary War.

While they were much more accurate than muskets – all thanks to the twisted grooves, or rifling, inside the barrel that literally makes a rifle a rifle – rifles took a long time to load.
