Electronic copies of the contract drawings will be furnished to the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC sub contractors at no charge to provide a base for the preparation of as built drawings. 10. Utility Back Charges will be paid by the Owner and not carried in the bid. 11. The motorized projection screen shall be furnished and installed by the General Contractor see Section 11450, 2.3. The Electrical Sub-Contractor shall be responsible for power, control wiring, and connections. 12. The General Contractor furnishes and installs the “Fireman’s Poles” shown on Drawing A5.7, Detail 3 and specified in Section 05510. 13. The space labeled “Hose Rack 004” is an open alcove that will store the owner furnished hose and hose racks. 14. The exterior gauge of the overhead doors may be 20 gauge.

15. On Drawing A6.2 – Room Finish Schedule revise the note after the S: to read “Sound Attenuation Insulation shall be furnished and installed in all walls and ceilings.”

16. The adjustable shelving including the shelf above the closet pole shall be laminate plastic over

¾” plywood. The shelf above the closet pole shall be 16” deep. The adjustable shelving in the following rooms shall be:

Storage 120 – 5 adjustable shelves 1’-0” deep x 8’-2” length +/- Storage 121 – 1 closet pole with shelf above plus 5 adjustable shelves 1’-0” deep x 6’-8” length +/- Storage 209 – 5 adjustable shelves 1’-0” deep x 9’-0” length +/- 2nd Floor closet next to elevator – 5 adjustable shelves 1’-6” deep x 5’-0” length +/-

17. On Drawing A6.2 – Room Finish Schedule, The painted wood floors called out in the mezzanine

area shall be painted under Section 09900. 18. An ignition barrier shall be installed over the open cell foam insulation in the “unfinished” space,

not in the attic/concealed spaces.

19. Section 09900 Painting Add the following: Exterior Exposed Concrete: (1) Coat Exterior Filler (2) Coats Exterior Latex Paint Fiberglass Exterior Columns: (1) Coat Exterior Primer (2) Coats Exterior Latex Paint

20. The exposed metal structure in the Pre-Engineered Building to be painted by Section 09900 includes all exposed structural steel including girts, perlins, columns and beams. The wall and roof panels are factory finished.

21. The adjustable shelving standards and brackets for the closets are factory finished.

22. The ceiling of the exterior canopy at the entrance is exterior GWB.

23. All the ceilings in Stair #1 and Stair #2 are PTD GWB not ACT as called out in the Room Finish

Schedule.

24. Attached is drawing SKA.2 showing the sill detail at the overhead doors. The galvanized steel angle is supplied by Section 05500 and installed by the General Contractor.

25. Exterior metal railings shown on the drawings shall be furnished under section 05500. These

railings shall conform to design for pipe railings and guard panels as specified, and be galvanized.

26. Provide removable guard panels at Doors M06 and M07 overlooking the Apparatus Room.

These panels shall consist of a pipe rail frame 7’-0” wide x 2’-0” high infilled with chain link fence fabric. The frames shall be supported on 1/8” thick metal brackets, (2) each side of door.

The removable guard panels shall be painted under Section 09900 and furnished under Section 05500 and installed by the General Contractor.

27. On Drawing P1 – Plumbing Equipment Schedule, Item EPV1: Emergency Propane Valve shall

be Isimet LA-1211-R series.

28. The 24 volt conductor and wiring from the Plymovent sensors to control panel shall be by the control contractor under Section 15600.

29. Specification for hot water supply and return piping

HOT WATER SUPPLY AND RETURN PIPING INSULATION

A. Acceptable Manufacturers, or equal:

1. Certainteed

2. Knauf Fiber Glass

3. Owens Coming Fiber Glass Corp.

B. Pipe Insulation Application:

1. All new space heating piping hot water supply and return piping shall be insulated.

2. See Applicable Drawings for pipe sizes and locations

3. Furnish all accessories as recommended by the insulation manufacturer for applications indicated.

4. Provide cements, adhesives, coatings, sealers, protective finishes and similar compounds as recommended by the insulation manufacturer for the applications indicated.

5. The entire insulation installation shall be in strict conformance with Table 1305.3.9 in the 8th edition of the Massachusetts State Building and 503.2.8 of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code.

6. Insulation Accessories: Provide required sealing tape, bands, wires, anchors, comer angles, and similar Fiberglass Pipe Insulation: Glass fiber pipe insulation: ASTM C547, Class I, non-combustible. Kraft reinforced foil vapor barrier jacket with self-sealing adhesive joints.

Fitting Jackets: PVC - One piece, molded, joints shall be sealed.

Furnish and install the following accessories:

a. Insulating Cement: ASTM C195, hydraulic setting mineral wool

b. Adhesives, Sealers and Protective Finishes: As recommended by insulation manufacturer for applications indicated

c. Bands and Cements: As recommended by the insulation manufacturer for application intended

All new pipe insulation shall conform to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Energy Code requirements.

SPECIAL NOTES RELATIVE TO PIPE INSULATION:

a. All piping shall be installed such that full sized insulation and proper fittings can be neatly and correctly installed

b. No pipe hangers, supports, etc. shall come into direct contact with any piping to be insulated:

i. Hangers shall be installed of suitable size so that the hanger is installed on the outside of the pipe insulation

c. Proper and approved pipe supports (insulation saddlers, insulation shields, etc. shall be installed so as to prevent crushing of insulation

d. Pipe passing through pipe sleeves shall be supported independent of the pipe sleeve and the piping shall be centered in the pipe sleeve and pipe insulation also passes freely through the pipe sleeve

e. Install “double wall thickness” insulation on any piping within 10 feet (in any direction) of the combustion air and/or exhaust air ductwork:

i. Do piping and insulation to prevent freezing of any piping in the boiler room

f. Any improperly installed pipe insulation and/or improperly installed piping shall be replaced or relocated at the direction of the Engineer without any additional cost to the Owner:

i. Any decision by the Engineer shall be final

g. Any pipe insulation installed with wrinkles or defects in the pipe insulation jacketing shall be replaced at the direction of the Engineer without any additional cost to the Owner:

h. Any decision by the Engineer shall be final

30. Alternate No. 2 is an ADD Alternate intended to describe the extent of work and type and quality

of material necessary to provide a fully functioning snow melt system at the apparatus bay door aprons.

31. In the mechanical specification 15600 paragraph 2.36 sub paragraph (F) Delete sentence

pertaining to installing a PVC jacket for all interior refrigerant piping. It is not the intent of the section to require that all refrigerant piping installed in the building be fitted with a PVC jacket.

32. Drawing ES-1:

1. Refer to the attached revised site plan ES-1 indicating the relocation of the standby generator,

transformer and the installation of a new blast wall.

2. The General Contractor will be responsible to furnish and install the concrete transformer pad and concrete generator under the direction of the electrical contractor. Prior to constructing the concrete pad for the transformer, coordinate with the utility company to receive their installation standards. The General Contractor will be responsible to furnish and install fourteen (14) concrete 6” round galvanized steel pipe in accordance with the electric utility company standards to protect the utility company provided transformer. The General Contractor will be responsible to furnish and install five (5) concrete 6” round galvanized steel pipes to protect the standby generator.

3. The General Contractor shall be responsible for all trenching, backfill, concrete encasement

and resurfacing for the underground electrical utility duct banks as indicated on the drawings. 4. The General Contractor shall be responsible to furnish and install the concrete light pole

bases under the direction of the electrical contractor. The electrical contractor shall be responsible to furnish to the General Contractor the necessary light pole anchor bolts and templates.

5. The General Contractor shall be responsible to furnish and install the concrete blast wall

between the generator and the utility company provided transformer under the direction of the electrical contractor.

DRAWING E3.2:

1. Electric Room MO3 – the main 1000 ampere service switch and ATS-1 is to be located

within this room.

2. Electric Closet MO4 – the automatic transfer switch ATS-2 is to be located within this room

DRAWING E6.2:

1. Panel schedule MD – change the circuit breaker designation #7 to read “ATS-2” in lieu of ATS-1.

2. Refer to the attached panel schedules HP, HP2 and CP.

33. Locate the meter and provide the meter socket as shown on Drawing E6.2. 34. Section 09650 Resilient Floor is a Filed Sub Bid. Insert the attached first 2 pages of the Resilient

Floor Specification Section relating thereto.

35. PRE BID CONFERENCE: A pre bid conference was held September 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the site 200 West Street, Ware, Massachusetts.

Meeting Notes:

1. The project includes funding from the Federal Government, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and The Town of Ware.

2. The site abuts wetlands, note the Order of Conditions from the Conservation

Commission that are included in the documents. Sedimentation control is to be provided and maintained by the General Contractor in accordance with the documents.

3. Demolished asphalt, brick and concrete is being crushed and stockpiled on site

under a separate contract, for use by the general contractor as fill under pavement.

4. Construction is to start within 2 weeks of the Notice of Award.

5. Addenda will be posted on The Carell Group, Inc. website, www.carellgroup.com. No notification of addenda will be made; bidders are to check the website periodically up to 48 hours prior to the bid opening.

36. The following documents are to be hereby included as part of the Contract Documents:

(FILED SUB-BIDS REQUIRED) 1. GENERAL 1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. The work under this section shall be subject to the Contract for Construction and

General Conditions; and Section 01000 General Requirements and Special Provisions all of which shall be included as a part of this specification.

B. Any Bidder wishing to obtain approval on brands other than those specified by

name shall submit their request to the Architect not less than ten (10) days before the bid opening. Approval by Architect will be in the form of an Addendum to the Specifications indicating that the additional brand or brands are approved as equal to those specified so far as the requirements of the project are concerned.

C. Reference in the specifications to any article, device, product, material, fixture,

form or type of construction by name, make or catalog number shall be interpreted as establishing a standard of quality, and shall not be construed as limiting competition and the Contractor, in such cases, may at his option, use any article, device, product, material, fixture, form or type of construction, which in the judgement of the Architect, expressed in writing, is equal to that specified.

D. Time, Manner and Requirements for Submitting Sub-Bids:

1) Sub-bids for work under this Section shall be for the complete work and shall be filed in a sealed envelope with the Town of Ware at a time and place as stipulated in the Advertisement for Bid.

2) The following shall appear on the envelope: NAME OF BIDDER SUB-BID FOR SECTION 09650– RESILIENT FLOORING WARE FIRE HEADQUARTERS

3) Every sub-bid submitted for work under this Section shall be on forms furnished by the Owner, as required by Section 44F of Chapter 149 of the General Laws, as amended. Sub-bid forms may be obtained from the Architect by written or telephone request to The Carell Group, 85 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA; (508) 497-0909.

4) Sub-bids filed shall be accompanied by BID BOND or BID DEPOSIT in the form of CASH or CERTIFIED CHECK on, or TREASURER'S or CASHIER'S CHECK issued by, a responsible Bank or Trust Company payable to the Town of Ware in the amount of five (5) percent of the bid. A sub-bid accompanied by any other form of bid deposit than those specified above will be rejected.

5) In general, but without limiting the generality, the Work is shown on

Drawings listed at the end of the General Documents of this Specification. Work specified in Painting is subject to provisions of Section 44A to 44L inclusive, of Chapter 149 of General Laws of Massachusetts, as amended, and are indicated on the cover page of the Drawings.

This subcontractor shall carefully inspect all the above-listed Drawings, not just those pertaining particularly to their sub trade unless specifically called for otherwise, regardless of where among the Drawings it appears.
