Transport of passengers by mode of transport
In 2007, all modes of transport carried 1532, 7 tonnes of goods, which is 7,4% more than in previous year.
In 2007, the public transport fleet carried 1006,4 million of passengers which is 1,8% less than in the previous year. The decrease in the carriage of passengers was noted in road and inland waterway transport, whereas the carriage of passengers increased in railway, air and maritime transport.
Railway transportPoland is served by an extensive network of railways. The main railway company is owned by the state and it’s name is PKP (Polish Rail Lines). It consists of the following operating companies:
PKP Intercity – qaulified passengers trains
PKP Przewozy Regionalne – regional passengers trains
Koleje Mazowieckie – local trains in Mazowia
Szybka Kolej Miejska (Tricity) – fast urban railway in Tricity
Szybka Kolej Miejska (Warsaw) – suburban railway in Warsaw
Arriva PCC (joint venture formed by Arriva and PCC Rail – part of the local train traffic in Kuyavian-Pomerenian Voivodeship

Railway transportThe network of railways in Poland
The total length of railways was 20,1 thousand kilometers in 2007. The network belonging to PKP amounted 19,4 thousand kilometres.
In 2007 total rail transport carried 245 million tonnes of goods, which is 3% more than in 2006. PKP company carried 153 million tonnes of goods. Other operators, who had railway freight transport licences, carried 92 million tonnes of goods.
The volume of goods carried by rail transport in tonne-kilometres accounted for about 13% of total rail freight transport declared by the EU countries, which gives Poland the 2nd place among the EU 25 countries between Germany and France.

In 2007, 279,7 million passengers were carried by railway which was 5,4 % more than in the previous year. As far as international transport is concerned there were 2 676 passengers carried by PKP.

ROAD TRANSPORT
The total length of public roads at the end of 2007 amounted to 381,1 thousand kilometres of which 67% were hard roads and 32% unsurfaced roads. The total density of roads was 828 km per 100 km2. There are not many motorways in Poland. There are two
long sections connecting the north with the south and the east with the west. The lenghth of motorways is amounted to 666,5 km. There are 261 km of expressways.
Conditions of the roads:The condition of Polish roads can be described as relatively good. The condition of road surfaces around big cities is improving every month. Secondary roads are in a satisfactory conditions. Apart of motorways there are a lot of dual carriageways and single –lane roads. The surface of some of them have been deformed during sommer by TIR trucks.

ROAD TRANSPORT- buses
In 2007, bus transport carried 719 million passengers, which was 4,4% less than in the previous year. Within bus transport, still the great role was played by enterprises of public sector, although their share in total carriage of passengers has decreased significantly.
The greatest carriage in international transport in 2007 was with relation with Germany, The United Kingdom, Italy, France, The Czech Republic and Ukraine.

INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT OF PASSENGERS BY ROAD IN 2007
Road transport -trucksIn 2007 1213,2 million tonnes of goods were carried by road transport, which is 8,9% more than in 2006. Achieved volume of goods carried in road transport was over 7% of total road freight transport of European Union that gave Poland 6th place behind Germany, Spain, Italy, France and The United Kingdom. In international transport Poland has even higher share (over 11%) and was on the 2nd place between Germany and Spain.

Dartom company was established in 1990 and it specialises in domestic and international transport services. In 2007 Dartom joins the group of leaders of Quality International 2007.
Air transport
There are 10 national air routes in Poland:

There are 141 international routs among which are Budapest, Bukareszt, Vienna and Prague. Unfortunately there is no air rout to Bratislava as far as Polish Airlines are concerned.

45, 5 thousand tonnes of cargo were carried by air transport and were higher by about 26% than in 2006. (national transport increased by about 60% and inernational transport
increased by about 19%).
