The reason is their bloodline combines two of the most powerful magic families. A girl named Zia took Carter and Sadie to a place called The House of Life in Cairo. There, Carter and Sadie were trained in magic and other things a magician needs to know. Soon, they were ready to duel. Zia opened a magic portal to Luxor where Carter and Sadie dueled against each other. Sadie made her magic staff turn into a lion to attack Zia, but the lion seemed to know Sadie was dueling Carter, and the lion went after Carter. Then, Carter was surrounded by a giant glowing avatar that he controlled. It had the head of a falcon but the body of a human. Carter sliced the lion with a shimmering blade of energy and it disappeared, and Sadies staff was cut in half. That was when Zia discovered that Carter and Sadie were godlings, which means a god dwells in each of them.Later on, they found out that the old chief of The House of Life had died. The new chief, Desjardins, ordered Carter and Sadie executed because they were godlings. They escaped Luxor through a magic portal opened from the obelisk and they ended up in Paris.
