An LPCCGoodbye

SPECIAL EMERGENCY MEMBER MEETINGThursday, November 3rd – South Beach Washout Project

August’s Hurricane [Irene} did not leave without consequence. If you’ve visited South Beach in recent past, you’ve seen the damage left behind by her tremendous rains that prevent travelers from crossing.

Fortunately, Board member Richard DePasquale, PE, has worked diligently (and selflessly) to develop a long-term solution that will prevent this from happening again. The costs associated with this project will need to be voted on by members and an emergency “special meeting” has been scheduled for Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30.

Please mark your calendars if you would like to hear the presentation to address this issue; along with casting your vote. Should members approve this project, we anticipate lowering the lake during the last two weeks of November.

On another note, we had a great Lake Pine Day weekend that you will see detailed in this month’s newsletter. Many thanks to all who volunteered and attended, making it another successful year of family fun (without a drop of rain)!

As the newly appointed LPCC President, I’d like to leave you with a letter from Greg Law, former President, who had to resign due to his relocating to Marlton. His tireless efforts over the last 10 years have been a tremendous value to this community and will continue to be realized for generations to come.

Thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving,Laura Saunders

Dear Friends,

I am writing to say goodbye and to thank you for your support over the almost ten years I served on the Colony Club Board and as President and Vice-President before that. As many of you know, I recently moved to Marlton and as such had to resign as President of the club.

My mom still lives in Lake Pine and I live less than a mile away so I’ll still see many of you. And of course, I never miss Lake Pine Day so I’ll look forward to seeing many of you there.

The Club has come a long way in the past ten years and it wouldn’t have been possible without the majority of you voting for and supporting the progress. Thank you for that support.

Come out to the meetings – get to know the new officers and board members and get or stay involved. I wish you all the very best. Greg Law

Upcoming Events

At our last membership meeting we had a presentation on Register Ready NJ. This is a program designed to help emergency responders locate and safely evacuate people who may find it difficult to help themselves in the event of a major disaster, such as what we witnessed with hurricane Irene. Emergency responders need to know where to locate people with special needs as well as what type of help they may require so they can be safely and quickly evacuated. You may want to use the registry if you would find it difficult to get to safety with family or friends because of a physical or cognitive limitation, language barrier or lack of transportation. The registry is free, voluntary, confidential and a way to protect yourself in an emergency. To register for the NJ Special Needs Registry you can log on to www.registerready.nj.gov or you can dial 211 for registry information and help.

Tennis Court Use

Help support LPCC’s fundraising efforts by joining TD Bank’s Affinity Membership Pro-gram. Your participation earns us an annual donation based upon the number of members enrolled.

So far, we have raised $3500 from the pro-gram! In our first full year of participating in the program, we received over $3500 from the bank simply because 50 of you who bank at TD Bank named us as your Affinity Program Des-ignees.

TD Bank does not give us any information about you – not who you are nor what you have in your accounts. The bank simply makes a donation to our organization if 50 or more ac-count holders designate our group. The dona-tion is based on a formula and the money does not come from you – it comes from the bank. If the number of you drops below 50, we receive nothing. So, if you bank with TD Bank or are looking for a new bank to do business with, please designate the Lake Pine Colony Club as your designee to insure that at least 50 people or companies designate us for the program.

Eligible accounts include:• Checking • Money Market • Savings • CD • RATo sign up for the program, all you need to do

is just give them our organizations name and they’ll take care of the rest. To become a mem-ber of the Lake Pine Colony Club Affinity Mem-bership Program, call the Lake Pine Branch at (856) 596-6622.

To open an account, visit any TD Bank Branch or call 1-888-751-9000.

If you were not already aware, our newly renovated tennis courts are now open. We have received several inquiries with regard to its opening and have created a process for you to enjoy a game of tennis before the winter chill arrives. If you would like access and the combination to the lock please email Gina Fisher at [email protected]. She will need your name, address, phone and email information for future announcements like when the lock’s combo is changed for security purposes. You must be up to date on all dues, in addition to being a recreation member. We ask that you and your children act responsibly when using the courts. Do not share the combination with anyone (please forward them to Gina for access) and lock the gate when finished. These courts are for tennis only! Skateboards, games or other activities will not be tolerated. Please help us preserve the longevity of these courts by treating them as your own... ...because they are! Many thanks and enjoy! The LPCC Board

East vs. WestSoftball Game

The LPCC has arranged with Viridian Energy to offer you the ability to save money on your electric bills! Viridian will also be offering savings on your natural gas in the next few months too! (Lake Pine Colony Club will benefit at the same time on this also.) At the same time, Viridian will also give $2.00

each month to the LPCC for each household that continues to be with Viridian. They pay the $2.00 ... not you! Viridian is a responsible Green Energy company

that:• Will NOT require a contract of you… unlike

most others• Has NO penalties, if you want to change com-

panies… unlike most others• Has NO equipment to install• There is no application fee to sign up. So put

your checkbooks away when you apply• You remain with your current electric provider

for service, billing, repairs, etc; so there is no interruption of service. Period

• You can choose 20% Green energy for the greatest savings, or chose 100% Green for those who embrace even greener lifestyles. Other companies don’t offer this

You can sign up online right away for those who have computers. For those who can’t go online, we can provide you with a form to fill out if you don’t have family or friends that can assist you. With this form we can enter your information into Viridian’s system for you. Your information is forwarded to PSE&G.Either way it only takes 2 to 3 minutes to get it

done!Go to the money saving website: www/viridian.

com/lakepineAll you do is get out your current PSE&G elec-

tric bill, look at the second or third page, and look for the PSE&G Electric section with an 18 digit number that starts: PoD ID: PE_____________. You will need this number when you sign up. If you want family and friends to save too, Virid-

ian serves the rest of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and others. We’re in more states than any other energy company. Spread the word. The more of us that know about this, the better off we’ll all be. Note that renters and small businesses are also eligible for this benefit, even those outside of Lake Pine.Send your questions to: Chris Hunter – homes-

An exciting game of softball was held on Saturday, September 4th as part of the Lake Pine Day activities. The East vs. West game was played by all ages from fast running young-ins in flip flops, to men of a certain age in shorts. East stormed out early to a big lead, which held up for much of the game, but then West

made a late inning charge. Ultimately, West came up short and the final score was East 14 - West 8.

All in all, it was a very fun and competitive game and most important, nobody got seriously hurt (except maybe for some egos – ha ha). This game was payback for West spanking East last year. West took the loss with good grace and vowed to get back next year. They may have even started practicing already. Should make for an exciting rubber match next year.

Lake Pine Days 2011 were wonderful for one and all at the baseball game on Saturday, the water activities on Sunday, and the parade and fair on Monday. Not only did the weather cooperate, but the turnout was extremely high as well! The events for Lake Pine Days couldn’t have been as fun or successful if it weren’t for the wonderful, dedicated members who volunteered to make everything run. We are grateful and thank each and every single one for their gift to LPCC. Listed below are these wonderful individuals. Our apologies if we missed anyone. The Pine Needle 12 November, 2011

Officers and Trustees present: Laura Saunders, Evelyn Moore, Dave Cassie, Lauren Holman, Wayne Hunter, Richard DePasquale, Erik Lure. Absent: Mike Dougherty, Pete Adams. Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m.

The newly-appointed board members introduced themselves (Laura Saunders, President, Dave Cassie, Vice President and Erik Lure, trustee)

Minutes from the June 23rd meeting were read and approved by the members.

Ben of M&M gave the management report. Income was $148,000 with expenses of $172,000 of which about $41,000 was clubhouse repairs. Ben recommended we should do a termite treatment next year. He reported more members are wearing their recreation tags and the beach patrol are doing a good job of asking non-members to leave the beach. Over the summer the south beach was closed a few times due to high bacteria count. Beaches will close September 30. There were two state inspections in June and July and a fire inspection of the clubhouse. An outstanding issue is the electrical system.

Bill Christine, who is an electrical engineer, said he will do an inspection and submit a report of his findings. We may need to replace our 100 amp system.

Lake Pine Days: Ben said there were more volunteers this year, but he thought there was less of a crowd. Laura reported that Taunton Forge’s commitment to LPD has come through. We need to market the event more for next year.

Laura also reported that the tennis courts are open. Members

who want to use the courts must contact our administrative assistant Gina Fisher who will record their name and give them a passcode for the lock.

Treasurer’s report: Lauren Holman joined the meeting and introduced herself. She gave the treasurer’s report and stated we received the mortgage loan monies from Beneficial Bank and will begin to repay the loan October 1st with monthly payments of about $1,100 for 10 years.

Lauren reported Lake Pine Days had a small profit due to the $1,400 from Taunton Forge. She is continuing to review our accounts. We have about $8,500 in unpaid bills.

Dottie Cannon, a volunteer with the Burlington County Health Department spoke to the members about a program to help identify people with disabilities who may need assistance during a disaster. She distributed literature about the program and discussed shelters set up throughout the county.

Environmental report: Richard said we are still waiting for a response from the state that would allow us to build a curb at a height of 8 inches instead of 12 inches. He continues to follow up with Princeton Hydro, the engineering firm we hired, to follow through with the state.

Projects: Laura reported that all the projects (tennis and other courts) picnic and playground equipment) have been completed. We are working with the Boy Scouts on a project to install fencing around the recycle cans and a small concrete pad for the cans.

Dave asked for volunteers to help move the picnic tables into place after the meeting.

A discussion followed concerning lights at the tennis courts. We need to have a light switch and a timer to control the lighting. We will look at this along with clubhouse electrical needs.

Also discussed rules for using the courts, maintenance costs and the need to generate revenue. A member discussed separate tags for members who use the courts and keys with a nominal fee for the tags and keys.

Ben said we rented the ball field in the past, but there was a conflict because the members couldn’t use the field. We would need to set up a calendar so that members would have ample use of the courts along with outside rentals.

Richard discussed the need to build a bulkhead, emergency spillway to address the problems we had at South Beach during the last storm. We can do this in the Fall when the lake is lowered. The Board is discussing this issue.

A discussion of the Viridian and Affinity programs took place and members were encouraged to engage in these programs which bring income to LPCC.

A member discussed the need for a crosswalk on Taunton Blvd at Chestnut Street. We will check into this with the county.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
