The first competition of the day started off with a sen-sational run. Celina Bachleitner steered the seven year old gelding Paintball Gun perfectly through the arena and was rewarded with a score of 215. No one was able to top this score and the young Austrian’s dream became true: the European Championship title was hers! The next two hours were full of suspense, the fans and spectators were cheering and the young, talented junior riders gave their very best. Marie Baralon and her mare Chicken Sandwich had a great run in the team competition yesterday and fans and spectators were in suspense to see her perform to-day. Marie had another great run scoring 213.5 earning the silver medal.

The exultation of the French fans was never ending as Margaux Legrand from France showed the 15 year old stallion New Doc Peppy Cat in a very nice manner which was merited with a score of 213 and the bronze medal. Nimroid Vannietvelt from Belgien und der Stallion Im Smart And Wimpy came in fourth place (210.5)

And she did it again! With her ride scoring a 219 and tense mo-ments towards the end as the score was held back, everyone was relieved: After winning the European Junior Riders Championship title last year, Gina Schumacher earned the Young Riders title this year showing ARC Guns M Oaks.

Up until about the middle of the draw list the scored leveled off between 211 and 212.5. Anna Voss and Mandys Little Magnum took the lead scoring 214. Towards the end as the top favorites were about to come, the suspense level climbed noticeably.

Jacob Behringer and his horse Rascal Sensation could not quite re-peat Friday’s performance scoring 214, which temporarily put him into second place, tied with Anna Voss.

Everyone was eager to see Enrico Sciulli and his mare Snips Got-ta Bud. This couple rode home from yesterday’s Team Competition with a sensational score of 220. They again showed an excellent run scoring 217.5.

Last to come in and with another sensational ride, Gina Schumacher confidently steered her gelding ARC Guns M Oaks through pattern 10. They couldn’t quite match yesterday’s top score (221) but their 219 was good to win the seal.

Tina Künstner-Mantl aboard Nu Chexomatic was third to go and really set a mark scoring 221.5. She took the lead until Italy’s Gennaro Lendi aboard Yankee Gun had a fantastic run and topped the score by half of a point 6 riders later. Alexander Ripper and Hollys Electricspark followed with a score of 220.5, third place at halftime.

Then one highlight followed the next: Ann Fonck with Nic Ricochet scored 220, Cira Baeck aboard Whizasunnysailor BB fol-lowed and rode to a great 220.5. All eyes were on the last two riders to show, Grischa Ludwig with Gwhiz Im Smart and Bernard Fonck riding Smart N Sparkin.

Grischa Ludwig had a great run and was rewarded with a score of 221.5. Bernard Fonck was unable to top the score this time, he came out with a 219 and so it was clear: FEI World Champion Senior Reining 2016 is Gennaro Lendi and his seven year old Paint Horse stud Yankee Gun.

The silver and bronze medals still had to be decided: Tina Künstner-Mantl and Grischa Ludwig were tied Tina Künstner- Mantl (AUT) and Grischa Ludwig (GER) rode again to decide the silver and bronze medals. The result of this exciting tie showed Grischa Ludwig and Gwhiz Im Smart coming out ahead of Tina Künstner-Mantl with Nu Chexomatic.

Yesterday’s awards presentation came up with a big surprise for 3 reiners: an award for them having been world’s number one in their respective categories in 2015. Grischa Ludwig from Germany was awarded FEI Top Reiner Senior, Jody Beenhakker from the Netherlands was awarded in absentia FEI Top Reiner Junior Riders, and Gina Schumacher from Germany was surprised with the award for the FEI Top Junior Rider.
