Nonetheless, the seminar that followed more than made up for the above. The ritualistic lighting of the lamps was presided over by the Director of the Sym- biosis Institute of Media and Communication (UG). This was followed by a classical dance performance. ‘Rural Marketing and the Aspects Involved’ was the topic of the first seminar of the fest, introducing Mr. Venkatesh Srinivasan, Direc- tor, Rural World Promotions, a BTL Marketing Solutions Company. Describing rural marketing as a ‘concept sell- ing technique’, he went on to outline its aspects and its po- tential. According to the facts de- tailed in his PowerPoint pres- entation, major corporates such as PepsiCo have tapped into the scenario, catering to the rural population’s diverse needs, with olive oil emerg- ing as the reigning product consumed by them. The response to Mr Srini- vasan’s talk was varied. Both Vijayta Lalwani and Aditya Khanna of SIMC-UG won- dered if such a session was really a way to keep students enthusiastic about the festi- val. Lalwani explained that although the session in itself was informative, ‘’it was a subject with too narrow a scope of interest to retain the entire audience’s attention.’’ However, Dr Ramaa Gol- walkar, faculty, SIMC-UG, congratulated the organizing committee for introducing a topic “so important for de- velopment and so rarely dis- cussed.’’ She went on to say that she hoped that her stu- dents would ‘’enjoy each and every aspect of the festival’’. PARKING, G.F.: The first day of DZMA is important for more things than just mandatory attendance for the opening seminar. The first day of DZMA is important for the mouth-watering food and beautifully designed products. The stalls in and around the campus which provide refreshment and re-lief to the managers and par-ticipants alike have a story of their own to tell, on the first day of DZMA.

It’s not just fast food that is naturally in demand among the student crowd. The Six Pack Cleanse Course, a new health juice company have their stall arranged. They have a range of juices with promising health ingredi-ents and the taste, customers say, is “actually, very good”. The price of the product was considered very steep but not anymore, since they now pro-vide tempting offers

Coming from Harvest Market, KP, the new brand says it doesn’t regret the de-cision of investing in dzma though their sales have not been great. Manaswita Ver-ma, a sponsorship team mem-ber says that this is because “we are giving them a lot of

media coverage; on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.”

Along the same lines, is running the State Bank of India depot which gives in-formation about education loans, vehicle loans, etc. They believe that it has been “quite fruitful so far in terms of enquiries but the students are not giving us their contact numbers.”

The Design Store put up by the students of Symbiosis Institute of Media and Com-munication is doing excep-tionally well. The products that are sold are made by the students themselves and the

prices are affordable. Not all things though,

have been nice and jolly. The Procase bag store is hardly doing well but is being opti-mistic. “We are getting to un-derstand what kinds of bags the youth is interested in but are not at all hopeful about the sales.”

There have been mixed re-sponses from the food stalls. Some are doing extremely well like Live Italy and some others are sure to not return tomorrow, like Preeti’s Cakes and Bakes.

There has been one moun-tain of a problem though, that

all the food stalls are strug-gling to cope with: no elec-tricity throughout the whole day. The Fantasy Stall, which has been a part of all fests in the Viman Nagar Campus for the past 6 years, is extremely disappointed with the man-agement. “We will go into losses now because the fruits will get damaged and they can’t be served,” the store manager said.

DZMA has survived its first day with all its ups and downs and hopes to make the days to come even more fun and enjoyable.

AUDITORIUM: DZMA’s first ‘sundowner’, Plug ‘N’ Play, is slated to be a band competition that will see young passionate musicians coming together on stage to get heads banging and hearts pumping.

The event will start off with the performance of the ‘home band’, whose mem-bers are students of SID and SIMC (UG). Around ten bands have lined up for the same, to be judged by the members of Asylum, a Mum-bai – based band.

A subscriber to the groove metal genre, Asylum was formed in 2010. The band was

the brainchild of members Raghu Raj and Anubhav Rat-tan, who had similar interests in the field of music. Accord-ing to them, their band has a single aim – to keep their fans and themselves happy with the music that they belt out. Their recent performance took place at the Entombed Metal Festival in Mumbai, which was headlined by leg-endary Japanese death metal players Defiled.

Participating colleges in-clude the following; Nowros-jee Wadia College, Sinhgad College, Vadgaon/Ambe-gaon, Symbiosis School of Economics, Symbiosis Law School, Maharashtra Institute of Technology

AMPhIThEATRE: Kick starting DZMA, ‘MAD Ads’ succeeded in bringing out the madness in the participants who brainstormed to come up with the best possible pitch for their ‘client’ (the Judge) Mr. Shreyas Bangard. The judge, Mr. Bangard, has turtle years of experience in the field of Brand Management, Adver-tising, Marketing and educa-tion. The event was hosted by Shiva, a First Year student of SIMC-UG, who engaged the

audience with his high-energy compering.

In Round 1, the 8 teams were given a mix of products per team, such as the Punc-tured Condom, Tabasco Eye Drops, and Balding Cream to name a few.

The competition intensi-fied in Round 2, where the contestants had to present their advertisement. The use of cli-ché Bollywood dialogues like “Mein tumhare bacche ka baap banne waala hoon” (I am the father of your unborn child) and “chamakta takla” (shining

baldhead) had the audience asking for more.

O n e of the concep t s w h i c h ga rne red the most apprecia-tion was from the ‘Punctured Condom’ team who had has managed to incorporate the main theme of DZMA 2015, ‘Around the

World’, to create a ‘global family’. The Love for Ads was seen in the audience too as they cheered the participants.
