ISSUE 4 SIMPLIFY, LEARN, EMPOWER MANEK KOHLI [email protected] Pune: Maadhyam, the lit- erary and debate festival organised by The literary and Debating Society of Symbiosis Institute of Me- dia and Communication (Undergraduate) is finally here. Excitement filled the air on Tuesday morn- ing as the entire college flocked the auditorium, ready to witness exciting events such as the Poetry Slam, Shipwreck and The Big debate in the morn- ing session. Audiences were enthralled as Sagar Kamath and Alok Oak, es- teemed faculty members of the college, partook in a communism vs capitalism debate as a premonition to the ‘big debate’ event. In Shipwreck, students had to creatively enact a particular character and attempt to escape a situ- ation. In the post lunch ses- sion, a plethora of exciting events such as Chakravy- uh, the much anticipated Maadhyam resurrected debate between student participants and Profes- sor Anupam Siddhartha, diector of SIMC-UG will indeed keep the audience at the edge of their seat. Other events such as the Quiz, Block and Tackle and Just a Minute are also expected to keep the audi- ences thoroughly enter- tained. Maadhyam is indeed heading towards great success, as showcased by the morning session. It has indeed succeeded in becoming a literary and debating spectacle. The future seems rather bright for the festival. Maadhyam was con- ceptualised in 2011, the same year in which it was held twice, in January and in September. This is the third edition in the series. They were judged for their creativity and ex- pression. The event started with Mashumi Dave of Batch 2017 who recited her poem “Lines” followed by Ni- sha Hegde with her poem “Lungs” and Garima Pura with her poem “To be in A world”. From batch 2015, Gulal Salil spoke about spaghetti as a metaphor to life, Pratika Yashaswi spoke on the life of Syl- via Plath and Purvi Jain recited her Hindi poem “Baatein.” From Batch 2016, Manek Singh Kohli recited his poem “When we’ll all be full of pain”. Next was Sushant Ku- mar who talked about the prevalent selfie culture fol- lowed by Anamika Tiwari, who recited her poem “Khamoshi” in Hindi. The results of the Poetry Slam are awaited. One of the most in- teresting parts of the event was the contest called Ship- wreck. It involved the six partici- pants (two from each batch) to convince the two captains of the ship- Neil Balthazar and Shashank Rajaram to give them the only life jacket left; while they’re on a sinking ship. The event started off with the participants from Batch 2017- Shayonita Ma- lik (Barney- the dinosaur) and Stacy Samuel (Sania Mirza). This was followed by the hilarious perfor- mances from Batch 2016- Shrawan Banerjee (Rakhi Sawant) a n d Ashwin Laxmi- narayan (Kanye West). Batch 2 0 1 5 partici- pants Vansh Luthra (Man- mohan Singh) a n d Devang S e t h (Sheldon Cooper) culmi- nated the event. RHEA DANGWAL [email protected] Pune: “Communism in India” is and has always been a hotly debated con- cept between scholars at large. The big debate event of the literary and debate fest Maadhyam at SIMC (UG) had this very topic. It started off as a one on one discussion with the depart- ment’s scholars, Prof.Sa- gar Kamath and Prof.Alok Oak, both teachers of His- tory and Political Science respectively. The audience was left applauding and cheering as the two teach- ers, with wit and facts by their side battled it out to prove their point across. While Prof.Alok Oak spoke pro-Communism, Prof. Sagar Kamath refuted his stand by speaking pro- de- mocracy and it’s conse- quence; Capitalism. e Big Debate : Clash of Ideologies Their debate was a pre- liminary introduction to the main competition be- tween the speakers from each of the three batches. The student’s debate started with two competi- tors from each batch giv- ing their stand and their views on the topic on com- munism. This was followed by a rebuttal by the competi- tors among themselves. The competition brought out some of the best speakers and debaters the institute has seen. At the end it was agreed upon that the debate on this topic could go on to no end. Quoting Prof. Alok Oak, “What is needed in the society right now is not to shun capitalism but to not allow blood shed to be the only means of freedom either. At the end of the day, what we crave for is the welfare of the society”. Pune: Maadhyam, the lit-erary and debate festival organised by The literary and Debating Society of Symbiosis Institute of Me-dia and Communication (Undergraduate) is finally here.

Excitement filled the air on Tuesday morn-ing as the entire college flocked the auditorium, ready to witness exciting events such as the Poetry Slam, Shipwreck and The Big debate in the morn-ing session. Audiences were enthralled as Sagar Kamath and Alok Oak, es-teemed faculty members of the college, partook in a communism vs capitalism debate as a premonition to the ‘big debate’ event. In Shipwreck, students had to creatively enact a particular character and attempt to escape a situ-ation.

debate between student participants and Profes-sor Anupam Siddhartha, diector of SIMC-UG will indeed keep the audience at the edge of their seat. Other events such as the Quiz, Block and Tackle and Just a Minute are also

expected to keep the audi-ences thoroughly enter-tained.

Maadhyam is indeed heading towards great success, as showcased by the morning session. It has indeed succeeded in becoming a literary and

debating spectacle. The future seems rather bright for the festival.

Maadhyam was con-ceptualised in 2011, the same year in which it was held twice, in January and in September. This is the third edition in the series.

They were judged for their creativity and ex-pression.

The event started with Mashumi Dave of Batch 2017 who recited her poem “Lines” followed by Ni-sha Hegde with her poem “Lungs” and Garima Pura with her poem “To be in A world”. From batch 2015, Gulal Salil spoke about spaghetti as a metaphor to life, Pratika Yashaswi spoke on the life of Syl-

O n e of the most in-teresting parts of the event was the c o n t e s t c a l l e d S h i p -wreck. It involved the six p ar t i c i -p a n t s (two from each batch) to convince the two captains of the ship- Neil Balthazar and Shashank Rajaram to give them the only life jacket left; while they’re on a sinking ship.

Pune: “Communism in India” is and has always been a hotly debated con-cept between scholars at large. The big debate event of the literary and debate fest Maadhyam at SIMC (UG) had this very topic. It started off as a one on one discussion with the depart-ment’s scholars, Prof.Sa-gar Kamath and Prof.Alok Oak, both teachers of His-tory and Political Science respectively. The audience was left applauding and cheering as the two teach-ers, with wit and facts by their side battled it out to prove their point across.

Pune: The Public Rela-tions batch of 2015 of Symbiosis Institute Media & Communicatio - Under Graduate (SIMC - UG) has revived ‘Jugaad, the baap of all adventure rac-es’. Jugaad is a pan-Pune treasure hunt, that can be negotiated by way of hunt-ing for clues, undergo-ing tasks and hitchhiking through the streets of this city, with the only skill that works for a chase like this; that of Jugaad.

On September 6, 10 teams of 5 each will be seen sweating it out in a battle to the finish line with all but 100 bucks to get them from one end of the city to the other. The teams will be seen scut-

tling through different pit stops throughout the city that will be unraveled by clues that they will receive after manage to hitchhike to a check point, execute the required tasks which could range between any-thing from participants stuffing their faces with vada pavs to doing as many push-ups as pos-sible and simultaneously trying to keep up with the ticking clock.

Jugaad 2014 has part-nered with big brands to give the contest an adven-turous feel that the partic-ipants can enjoy.
