THE COG - RCM Meeting 1598 Bulletin 14 September 2016
21 Members attended the Club Assembly Meeting held on Wednesday 7 September 2016. Also in attendance was Les Jolly – a Friend of Rotary. As part of the Meeting’s proceedings, all Directors were invited to provide a brief overview of their portfolio. Judi Brown (Club Admin) spoke on the development of a Club Social Media Policy and also on various forms of visual publicity for the Club. Peter Mayer (Treasurer) gave a brief snapshot of the Club’s finances. Graeme Packer informed the meeting of the progress of the extensions at the Community Workshop and also of a miniature sailing boat prototype project being considered. Paul Haylock (International and Projects) spoke on the progress of the PNG Midwifery project and also the coming Hat Day and Golf Day events which both will be supporting Australian Rotary Health. David Riggall (Membership) advised the meeting that the month of October will be dedicated to increasing membership and encouraged all present to consider nominating suitable new members. Marian Jennings (Fellowship) confirmed next week’s fellowship meeting arrangements and the Club’s Christmas Dinner function to be held on 18 December 2016. In addition Marian informed those present of the booking of rooms at The Southgate Motel in Mt Gambier for the District Conference to be held in April 2017. Sue Pullens (Youth) provided a report on the success of the recent Rotary Youth Driver Awareness event held recently. In the absence of Adel Abdelhamid (Fundraising) due to sickness, Graeme Packer reminded members of the first Moonlight Market (4 November 2016) and the Breakfast in the Park (20 November 2016) events. President Brenton informed the Club of the progress of a joint Group 7 community awareness session to be held on 24 November 2016 on the topic of the drug “Ice”. Ronz Edwin Scott advised the Club that if anyone was interested in obtaining a 100th anniversary badge for the Rotary Foundation it was cheaper to make a bulk purchase. Richard Hurn posed the question of some financial support for the Inner Wheel Club of Tea Tree Gully of which a number of the Club’s Members partners were members. Richard is to submit a written proposal to the Board. Following a referral from the Club Admin committee, the question of the continuing relevance in proposing the “Loyal Toast” at the Club’s meetings was raised. After discussion, it was agreed that a “secret vote” be undertaken on the issue at the Club’s AGM to be held on 14 December 2016. Past President Tim Mee has agreed to prepare a suitable voting question. Referred from the last Club’s Board Meeting, the issue of acknowledging the country of the Kaurna people was brought to the meeting. After discussion, it was agreed that a full acknowledgement of Country would be undertaken at major meetings of the Club. For all other meetings, a brief acknowledgement would be done. Richard Hurn’s raffle ticket was drawn but he was unsuccessful in drawing lucky marble number 11. The jackpot continues to grow. At the conclusion of the meeting Marian Jennings was presented with a triple sapphire pin in recognition to her ongoing commitment and contribution to the Paul Harris Society. Congratulations Marian. The next meeting of the Club on 14 September 2016 is a Vocational visit to Ken Vear’s SA Woodworking Academy, 133 Payneham Rd St Peters at 6.30 pm followed by a meal at the Parente Ristorante 275 Payneham Rd Royston Park. District Governors of Rotary Districts 9500 and 9520 will be providing a BBQ for all
those who come along to the joint district working bee at the RAWCS Donations in
Kind (DIK) facility at Edinburgh on Saturday, 12th November 2016. DGs John Pohl
and Sam Camporeale encourage Rotarians and friends from all clubs in the two
districts to attend this working bee that nominally starts at 9:30am and finishes
3:30pm.
Your assistance on the day will greatly help the running of DIK, one of Rotary
Australia World Community Service’s most dynamic but unsung programmes. Your
help on the day will substantially complement the steadfast efforts of the DIK
committee, regular volunteers and clubs that have had working bees at DIK in the
past. As well as providing constructive help to, these working bees provide
Rotarians and friends the opportunity for having fun while working together on a
common cause and good fellowship.
A programme of priority tasks has been identified that would be a great opportunity
for you and your club to get hands on international service locally.
We would appreciate if you could bring along with your enthusiasm, energy and
fellowship some household items that may help on the day such as gloves, mops and
buckets, brooms, dustpans, toolboxes, cordless drills/attachments.

Montacute Road cleanup
The periodic Montacute Road cleanup was done last Sunday. Coordinator David Fenton was amazed and
disappointed to see how little regard some people have for the environment. Mal Hansen’s ute was full to the
brim in just over two hours.
Thanks to all who attended and Paradise Motors for use of the van and also Mal Hansen for his vehicle and
arranging disposal of collected material.
The cleanup gang – a worthwhile job well done.
