BRINGING IN THE LIGHT

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP “Alleluia, He Lives” Joel Raney

CALL TO WORSHIP: L: On this glorious Easter Day, we have come to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. My sisters and brothers, let us rejoice: Alleluia! P: Alleluia, Jesus is Lord of all the earth; He is the King of creation! L: On this most holy of days, the One whom people thought to destroy has risen triumphant from the tomb. My sisters and brothers, let us rejoice: Alleluia! P: Alleluia, Jesus has died and is risen! L: On this holy day, we celebrate our new life in the risen Christ; through the death of Jesus, the weight of our sin has been lifted from us; through His glorious resurrection, we have become sons and daughters of God. My sisters and brothers, let us rejoice: Alleluia! P: Alleluia, come, let us praise the living God! Amen.

SPECIAL MUSIC “An Easter Celebration” Craig Courtney

When led, the congregation will please rise and sing: HYMN “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” No. 367

(Verses 1, 2 & 4)

CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY: L: Let us recite together the Apostle’s Creed as our confession of faith: P: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe

in the Holy Spirit, one holy Universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. L: Let us now pray together the prayer our Lord taught us: P: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

POSTLUDE “Celebrate Jesus!” Arr. Weber

ROMANS 6:3-5 “Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.”

Hebrews 2:14-15 “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”

1 Corinthians 15:55, 57 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”

CONGREGATION PLEASE STAND (AS YOU ARE ABLE)

Announcements for April 5, 2015

The office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, April 6.

IGNITE AND PULSE YOUTH GROUPS

The Youth Groups will not meet tonight so that the youth can celebrate Easter with their families. We will resume on Sunday, April 12, at 5:00 p.m. in Souers Hall.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS

Dinner this week will be fish ‘n chips, slaw, Jello, and cookies. Programs will include G.O. Kids Rec. Room, G.O. Kids, Chancel Choir, Heavenly Handbells, CLP Café, and Adult Bible study. See the weekly calendar for times and locations.

WORSHIP COMMITTEE OPENINGS

The Worship Committee is looking for a few more volunteers to assist with ensuring that the sanctuary is prepared for services. Our work is done “behind the scenes” as opposed to standing up in front of the congregation. Participation requires a minimal time commitment—normally just before the service you regularly attend. If this sounds like an interesting opportunity to serve your church, please contact Jim Anderson at (520) 870-6972 or [email protected].

BIBLE STUDIES

The Tuesday Bible study will resume on April 7, at 10:00 a.m. We will be studying the Book of Acts. All you need to bring is your Bible.

Wednesday night Bible study will focus on the Book of Esther. This study will begin on April 8, at 6:45 p.m. Please bring your Bible.

VIDEO CHURCH!

If you are finding yourself feeling a little squeezed at church today because of the crowds or if you just want to enjoy watching church on a big screen with a cup of coffee, please be aware that all church services are broadcast live in Souers Hall each week. Additionally, if you are traveling or are at your summer home or if you simply want to listen to part of the church service again, an audio and video copy of the weekly church service is available on the church website along with newsletters, bulletins, and other information. Please be aware that because of the need for editing, the audio/video of the church service is posted on the website a few days after church.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The next meeting for the Prayer Shawl Ministry is Thursday, April 9, 1–3:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room North. Our prayer shawls provide warmth and comfort and remind those who are suffering that others care about them. The prayer shawls will be displayed in church on April 12 so that church members can offer their prayers of comfort and healing. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry, please contact Nancy Montgomery at [email protected] or (623) 670-8122.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Bring your camp chairs or sleeping bags—along with family and friends—and join us for “Big Hero 6” on Friday, April 17, at 6:00 p.m. in Souers Hall. This PG rated film is a 2014 American 3D computer-animated superhero action comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Hotdogs, popcorn and drinks are provided. Please sign up in Souers Hall between services.

WOMEN’S RETREAT

Final day of registration for the W.C.S.F. Women’s Retreat, Seasons of Our Lives, is Sunday, April 12; all payments are due on that date. No registrations will be taken today. Rev. Kerri Sandusky and Aimee Wickersham will be facilitating the study. The retreat will be held at the Homewood Suites/Hilton Garden Inn in Avondale on Friday-Saturday, April 24-25. Cost is $100 per person with a $50 minimum due at registration. The event includes Friday night gathering reception, Friday night dinner, room based on triple occupancy, Saturday breakfast, Saturday buffet lunch, speakers, crafts, music, fellowship, devotionals and Holy Communion.
