COMMODORE’S MESSAGE

The Christmas Party was well attended by many of our members. It was im-

pressive to enter the Cape Coral Yacht Club with the decorations outside and

the ambiance inside. There was plenty of room for dancing, dining, socializ-

ing, and generally having a good time. Joan and her crew did an excellent job

on the event. Many thanks for all those who helped out and made this party a

big success. It started at the Power Squadron at 9:30 A.M. when some volun-

teers showed up to make the move to the C.C.Y.C. and by 11:30 the move

was done.

Thanks to the Petty Cash Band: Craig - vocals and percussion, Sean - key-

board, bass, guitar, Tim - guitar, bass and Jeff - trombone for donating their

time for the entertainment. Al did his thing with the 12 Days of Christmas,

which somehow turns into the 24 Days of Christmas. (there is a learning

curve). Monica was the EMCEE and that completed the entertainment portion of the party.

The slate of Officers and Directors proposed by the Nomination Committee were elected for 2010. We are

looking forward to another great year of racing, cruising, and socializing in our new clubhouse. As always the

January meeting will be the Change of Watch. This year it will be at the Pink Shell resort at Ft. Myers Beach

on January 9, 2010, the deadline for RSVP is January 6, info and form is in this issue.

Things we accomplished this year: The new improved clubhouse location giving us more flexibility for our

activities - A Scholarship Program with Edison Sailing Center - Implementation of a budget, a work in pro-

gress - Change in Summerset Regatta location and date - Improved ships store offerings - A new way to docu-

ment the history of the clubs activities with pictures on the Internet.

And finally a few words of thanks to all of the Officers, Directors and Committee Chairs and Members. It has

been a pleasure serving this year and I know you will be in good hands with the incoming Officers and Direc-

tors. Many Committees of the Fleet chairman are going to continue to serve another year, these positions are

vital to the operation of the club.

2009 CMCS Holiday Party Report

In the spirit of the season, our generous membership donated wagons full of

food and toys for the needy, as well as $220 cash generated by the raffle for door

prizes. Our new meeting place at the Cape Coral Yacht Club was very festively

lit up, and the Petty Cash band filled it with wonderful music as well. Al East-

man stoked up the spirit with the Twelve Days of Christmas tradition, complete

with props and audience participation. After the election of officers, we actually

had room to dance to the music! Many highly unpaid volunteers pitched in to

make this event fun, from decorating and set up to break down and hauling

goods to the Cape Coral Caring Center. Thanks to all who made our inaugural

event a success!

ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF

Saturday, January 23rd at 1800 Hours

In the Cape Coral Yacht Club Pavilion (on the beach)

This is your chance to become part of a CMCS tradition! Bring your crock pot full of your

best chili creation to the contest!

Awards will be given out for Best Tasting, Most Original, and of course…drumroll…Best

Presentation. You don’t need to declare a category, so it is possible you could win all three

prizes if you go all out.

If making chili is not your specialty, bring along chips and salsa, cornbread, or dessert to en-

hance the feast.

Let Candice Thiele know if you are participating so we’ll have plenty of space and thank-you

tokens. Call Candice at 945-3162 or email her at [email protected].

Planning Meeting: Wednesday, January 13th at 7:00 PM

Hosted by Rose Ann Hoffman, 540-1911

302 Tudor Dr., Apt. 1, Cape Coral

Rose Ann has offered to host the annual planning meeting for the Ladies Bridge Club. (For

newbies to CMCS, we don’t play cards.)

We will be deciding on events for the coming year, so come with your ideas. For instance, the

Celestial Navigation program at the Calusa Nature Center-Planetarium has been suggested as

has the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in March. On-the-water events are always a hit,

such as practicing man overboard maneuvers, kayaking, and knot tying.

Directions to Rose Ann’s: from Cape Coral Parkway, go south at Palm Tree Blvd. which

feeds into Tudor Drive. Follow Tudor Drive southwest until you see the condos at 302 Tudor

Drive. It’s Apt. 1. Give Rose Ann a call so she will know how many people to expect.

Bring your ideas, snacks and your favorite libation. Here’s to a great 2010!

and every one who took part in our adventures.

to make every cruise successful and fun. We had no big prob-

Thanksgiving A La CMCS – Bill and Mary Misenheimer, Yacht – Kalaha

Twenty three intrepid CMCS boats braved the elements to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner on their ves-

sels at Hurricane Hole on Punta Blanca Island. We actually had six host boats that each had up to

nine CMCS'ers and a few ringers on board for dinner: Bridget O'Toole, Kalaha, Wind Swept, Kati-

tude, Judy Judy, and Air Supply were Host boats. Kalaha arrived at the scene to applause and

cheers (only because we had the turkeys on board). We had a late start that morning: we had to

make an ice run to keep everything cold plus lots of fog and some rain while underway. The engine

surged a couple of times making me think that we could possibly have six dinners all to ourselves at

York Island!

Blank Check with Tim and Sue on board sans the iguana this year got things started off by winning

the yellow flag the night before anchored at Useppa Island. They can fill you in on that one! (Maybe

after so many yellow flag awards to one boat, we should consider a permanent award?TK,LK)

Lunch was served on Friday with the leftovers on the beach on the south side of Punta Blanca.

After two days in the Hole most of the boats either moved to Pelican Bay or traveled on. Three

boats went north to Sarasota, and a few headed for home. Saturday night cocktails were on Kalaha

(21 sailors) but we did not beat the Island Time number at the Ft. Myers Beach cruise of 22 on

board. We did, however, provide a dinghy valet (granddaughter Payton).

Many thanks to all who participated, especially those who hosted dinners, marked the channel,

guided boats in and assisted with the raft-up.

Thank you , Bill and Mary, for all your hard work for this cruise.

Holiday Cruise – December 26 – January 1, 2010 – Gordon Coffman – Cruise Leader, Yacht -

Ariel

This is the last cruise of the 2009 season and we hope as many take part as possible. Gordon is leading the pack to many places from the 26th to the 31st, ending up at Burnt Store Marina on the 31st. A party is planned at a CMCS-reserved room in the condo complex by the marina. If you are interested in attended this fun event, by car or by boat, please contact Gordon Coffman at 549-0418. The cruise will start the first couple of nights (Saturday and Sunday, the 26th and 27th) at Hurricane Hole, at the south end of Punta Blanca (ICW mile 23.2). On Monday, we will plan to proceed north and anchor for a night at the Cape Haze anchorage (ICW mile 35.9). The next day (Tuesday), we will go on to Englewood Beach (ICW mile 43.3), and anchor there for a night. On Wednesday (the 30th) there are a number of options. Some people will want to go into Burnt Store Marina a day early. Some may want to go the Boca Grande Bayou, or to Pelican Bay. Finally, some may want to go down to Bert’s Bar in Matlacha. Bert’s is always a lively place and a lot of fun. Be aware though, that the tidal prediction for the next morning is for a very low (-0.85) low tide at Matlacha at 9:42 AM. On New Year’s Eve, we have reservations at Burnt Store Marina, and we again this year have re-served the double room for our New Year’s Eve Gala. We’ll plan on a potluck dinner in the unit around 6:00 PM, then come back for our New Year’s Eve festivities beginning sometime around 9:00 (or whenever). Burnt Store is always a pleasant marina, it’s easy for the “land cruisers” to drive to, and the double room is perfect for our get-together. By the way, full moon is on the 31st! Please call Gordon (549-0418) and let him know if you will be joining this cruise (all or part). Also please let Gordon know if you need dockage reservations at Burnt Store, and whether you will plan to go into Burnt Store on the 30th or on the 31st. You can also e-mail Gordon at [email protected]. The dockage rate will be $1.50/ft/night with 30-foot minimum for 5 or more boats. When you call or email me, please be ready to give the following information:

Arriving at dock 30th or 31st ? Captain’s name, Yacht length, beam and draft, sail or power Special considerations, such as handicapped guests, also boats with a gate on one side only,

and the side they need to tie. We will attempt to satisfy these needs with dock assignments. Burnt Store Marina is asking for this information 30-days in advance of our arrival, so the sooner I have your information, the better. Burnt Store also offers a pool, fitness center, 27-hole executive golf course, a restaurant and ship’s store. If you interested in coming by Land Yacht and would like to stay over, lodging is available at two locations on the property: The Resort, 877-276-3300; or the Marina Inn , 800-859-7529. It is suggested that you make contact well in advance to assure availability.

The new web site is www.burntstoremarina.com Thanks, Gordon, for all planning work for this cruise.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!
