The club has had two races recently. (See both race results on following page.) Both were well attended. The Festival of the Islands drew a boat from Marco, and two from Naples. Wiley Parker was PRO for these races ( 3 ) , did a great job despite light wind and strong current at times. The True Cruisers raced a triangle, windward – leeward course and then two windward – leeward courses. Spinnaker and mul-tihulls raced windward –leeward in all three races. We have had several windward-leeward races this year. One reason is that USSailing in its’ publications says this type of course offers the most in tactics and sailing skill even for heavy full keeled boats. Reaches actually offer much less in either tactics or sailing skill. And, after all, this is what sailboat racing is about . The Kayusa Cup Race honors Betty Kayusa. Mike, her son, donated this trophy to CMCS. We formerly raced to South Seas Plantation, but with costs and advance notice being what they are, the format was changed. We raced up to a point about half way to Redfish Pass and back…..18.4 nm. The start was staggered depending upon PHRF rating. As Bob Duff said, “ this was a Catalina day “ Catalinas fin-ished 1st and 2nd in their class. The wind blew up to about 15 – 16 knots with plenty of whitecaps. Ned Christensen ran away from all and finished well ahead in his TRT 1200. Some beer, I won’t say how much, was consumed at Bo-nita Bills afterward. Also, I won’t reveal the name of the sailor who said: “I didn’t know we were in Bonita Springs.“ Tom Gore

CRUISE REPORT Eleven club boats came to Pelican Bay. Ix, Island Time(trawler), Shadowfax, Windy City, Hyde Away, Miller Time, Chase the Clouds, Lucky Day, Messin About, Island Time(sail), and Bentley all participated. Hotdogs and a pot luck dinner were had on Miller Time Thurs-day night. Cocktails were shared on Island Time and Hyde Away on Friday and Saturday nights. Tim and DeeDee and myself spent four grueling hours re-opening The Tunnel of Love now known as The CHEEdIX CUT. We enjoyed a dinghy trip through it to the beach on Fri-day. Russell once again swore he would never make the trip! If you joined the club to Cruise, now is the time to do so. Our next Cruise is to Danger Island on October 27th thru 29th. Judy and Charles Tomlin are our Cruise Leaders. We will have a Beach Pot Luck Dinner Friday night. Bring your grill, entrée to cook and a dish to share Saturday night around 6:00pm. The CMCS Band will be performing both nights. A costume party, bonfire and ghost stories will be told Saturday night. On November 10, we will head for Sanibel Bight. Saturday morning, we will weigh anchor for York Island where we will dinghy in to the Double Nichol to participate in Bob Macomber’s Book signing from noon until 10pm. A short dingy trip up the Monroe canal will reward you will great en-tertainment by the Yard Dogs. Bob says the Double Nichol will be featuring it’s world famous Pig Roast throughout the day.(please no coolers or byob allowed) Our Thanksgiving Cruise starts Nov 22 thru 27th. Wednes-day ,we will cruise to either Champney Bay in Naples or Fac-tory Bay in Marco. Thursday and Friday night at Panther Key. Dinghy excursions, bonfires and a beach pot luck at Panther Key are planned. Saturday, we will go to the Calusa Island Marina in Goodland. We have eight boats so far making reser-vations. Please call ME by October 30th if you need a slip. I need a credit card number and have been told a $50 charge will be made one week prior to arrival to be used toward your slip charge. You may cancel up to 7 days of arrival with no penalty. We will have our annual stone crab lunch/pot luck on Saturday afternoon and attend The hoopla at Stan” on Sunday. Monday we will head home. We will need to know at least one week prior to the start of the cruise if you want stone crabs in Goodland. The price is ap-proximately $13.00 per pound, but it depends on the market price at that time. Cash will be required at Goodland before stone crabs are delivered. Please call Waite and Mary Alexan-der at 481-7208. DEADLINE: Monday, November

Rear Commodore of Cruising Ron Maddix 482-0281

Summerset Clarification: The following information was received after the Summerset Re-gatta Results were posted. Ironic Breeze should have been 3rd and a trophy was forwarded to him. Margareta should have been given an 8th the 1st race, giving them an 11th for the regatta. Therefore, a 6th place for the regatta. Sharon L would be 7th.
