We are just going through a little transition.” I don’t know if anyone remembers, but one of the most important groups in our church for the past twelve-plus months is called the T-Team. “T” stands for “Transition.” Transition is not simply crossing the street. It is not just making a few changes. Transition is not the same as change. Transition is moving from one position to another and occupying that position without losing your identity. The people of God seem always to be in transition. The significance of the story of the “journey in the wilderness” has been with us since Moses led the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt to freedom in their new home, The Promised Land. It was reflected in the Life of Christ as he emptied himself and transitioned from life in glory to life on earth as a man. To help complete the transition he went through a wilderness of testing to clarify who he was and how he would pursue his mission of salvation in obedience to the Father. The churches he established still find it necessary to make that wilderness journey from what was to what is now and what God’s will is for the future. Knightdale is nearing the end of their re-enactment of this powerful Biblical drama. Its result is a fresh vision of who we are and where we hope to be in the future. R. Neil Chafin was a founder of the Center for Congregational Health in 1992. The center was responsible for the Intentional Interim process’ effective work among Baptist Churches. The following challenges and opportunities of the wilderness journey (the interim time) were suggested by him: To leave behind the enslaving behaviors and attitudes which keep a community looking toward its past and to decide which worthwhile aspects of history, tradition, and practice will be carried into the future. To see more effective ways to organize for present ministry; to develop and incorporate new leadership; and to find more inclusive ways of making decisions. To take a fresh look at who are the others on the journey with you and how you relate to one another, the neighborhood and community, and other partners in ministry. To clarify your identity as the people of God and develop an energetic vision which will call the congregation to better meet the spiritual growth needs of its members to enhance their ministry in the world. All of these points are in some sense “identity issues.” As you can see, there is still work to be done. The T-Team has uncovered a critical information gap which is being addressed in our Fall study opportunities. On Sunday afternoons we will have an opportunity to become familiar with Knightdale’s history and heritage, from the beginning of Baptists to the current day. On Wednesday evenings I will lead a study of the Biblical foundations for the Baptist doctrine and practice. Both studies are an effort to close the information gap of our identity. Transition

Fascinating word, transition. When Adam’s family was being kicked out of the garden of Eden, Eve was distressed by the frightening turn of events. To comfort her, Adam put his arm around her shoulder and spoke quietly into her ear. “Honey,” he said, “don’t worry about it. It will be alright. The following challenges and opportunities of the wilderness journey (the interim time) were suggested by him:

• To leave behind the enslaving behaviors and attitudes which keep a community looking toward its past and to decide which worthwhile aspects of history, tradition, and practice will be carried into the future.

• To see more effective ways to organize for present ministry; to develop and incorporate new leadership; and to find more inclusive ways of making decisions.

• To take a fresh look at who are the others on the journey with you and how you relate to one another, the neighborhood and community, and other partners in ministry.

• To clarify your identity as the people of God and develop an energetic vision which will call the congregation to better meet the spiritual growth needs of its members to enhance their ministry in the world.

All of these points are in some sense “identity issues.” As you can see, there is still work to be done. The T-Team has uncovered a critical information gap which is being addressed in our Fall study opportunities. On Sunday afternoons we will have an

Our Little Church - Part 2, The Journey

We’ve learned new ways of getting along, to deal with conflict and pain. How important each member is to the whole body, to stay close, and not place blame. At a new crossroads we stand now with our faith and commitment renewed. Let us stay our course, count upon God for

We’ve been on a spiritual journey that led us into the past. Some have called it “who are we?” -some say it’s almost over, at last. It has led us into dark places and made the Light to shine in; up high mountains and steep valleys and places some never had been.

He will show us how. Into the future we venture, with our banner for Christ held high. Looking toward a bright future as we tell the past goodbye. –Mary Weathers

Children’s Worship Change

Beginning September 11, KBC will undertake a BIG CHANGE in our CHILDREN'S SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP. Children's Church will be held for the full hour for ages 4 through 2nd grade in the Children's Worship Room next door to the Parlor in the Education Building. Please remember to sign your children in and out when you drop them off and pick them up.

We are making this change because 1) to give our children a great worship experience on a level children can comprehend and become engaged, and 2) for safety reasons. As you all know, a favorite game of children at this age is “hide and go seek.” This creates risk if we continue to transition children in the middle of the 11:00 am adult worship service. Thank You- Terry Johnson DeAnne Talley Discipleship Team and Sunday School Director Children's Ministry Team

Message From The Nominating Committee

We are requesting that each committee and team schedule regular meeting dates and place them on the church calendar. Each committee or team needs to elect a chairperson and other officers necessary to carry out your mission. Please do not assume that the same person will continue to lead but have new nominations and elections as we begin the new church year. Each committee is expected to maintain records of meetings with written minutes of all business

The Nominating Committee thanks everyone who has agreed to serve on various committees, teams and positions for the upcoming year. Working together as a united body of believers and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us will make a positive impact on the church and community. We ask that everyone support and pray for these individuals and that we all get “excited” about what the future has in store for KBC if we “trust and obey.”

conducted and all decisions or recommendations documented in these minutes. This information is to be maintained in a binder and passed each year to the new chairperson. Some committees have done a great job of doing this in the past but all committees should be sure to do this so important information will be documented for future reference. Thank you for following these procedures and thank you for your dedicated service.

21st Annual YAM JAM Saturday, October 15th 2011

8 am - 1:30 pm Q: What’s the Yam Jam?

A: The Yam Jam is an event brought to you by the Society of St. Andrew, America’s Gleaning Network. Hundreds of volunteers meet at a sweet potato field to collect the food that cannot be sold but is still edible. We bag it into ten-pound bags, load it into cars, pick-up trucks and delivery trucks, and send it out to people in need in the Triangle and beyond! In 2010, with the help of over 800 volunteers, we collected over 84,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and sent it to over 30 emergency food relief agencies and non-profits around the Triangle. Q: Where is it?

A: We will know the exact location of the field the week of the event, but the general location is near the community of Four Oaks in Johnston County. Q: What should I bring? A: You should bring water, gloves, and food for yourself and your group. We will provide the bags to collect the sweet potatoes.

Q: What else do I need to know?

• You need to know that there are NO BATHROOMS

in the middle of a farm field, so plan a pit stop beforehand.

• Kids are permitted to volunteer but they must be

supervised by an adult.

• If you want, you can deliver sweet potatoes with

your car or pick-up truck, just let us know!

Belarussian Ministry Update I recently returned from a two week visit with Tatyana, Denis and their family. It was another visit full of mixed emotions. I was grateful for the opportunity to visit, but even more grateful to return home to the peaceful com-forts of America, especially Knightdale.

Thank you to the dear souls who gave money for me to carry to Tatyana and her family. As I shared after my first visit, never underestimate the power of missions. The love offerings, the supplies, the love, care and concern KBC has shared with this family over the past 12 years has made a significant and positive impact on their lives. I know this personally from my two visits and know they hold KBC close in their hearts with love and gratitude. I, too, am grateful to you for all you have done for Tatyana, Denis, their family and me.

To God be the glory...great things He is doing in Belarus and beyond! –Rita

Dear Knightdale Church My family was glad to see Rita again in Belarus. She is always welcome in our home. My family says thank you for the love gift Rita brought with her. Our country is hit bad by the financial crisis. The money will help my family. Denis is playing football in another city and goes to school there. I just finished my second year at the University for language. I want to see you in America in a few summers. My family loves and thanks you for everything. Love, Tatyana and family
