Living in a remote Andean village in Peru isn’t easy. Until recently, Cristian (a 33 year old farmer) had to travel one kilometre to access running water.

DIARY NOTE: We, of St. Nicholas of Myra Parish, Penrith, will be holding devotions on Divine Mercy Sunday, 12th April, from 2.30pm. These devotions have been going for the past 7/8 years. More information to follow. All are invited to attend. CATHOLIC EDUCATION – DID YOU KNOW? The Federal Government contributes 57.5% of the cost of educating a child in a NSW Catholic school, and the NSW Government contributes 19.7%. The remaining 22.8% comes from parents and the parish community through school fees and private fundraising. This is why funding support from federal and state governments must keep pace with rising education costs – to maintain education quality and to ensure a Catholic education remains affordable for all families.

MUSIC OF J. S. BACH AND READINGS FOR

GOOD FRIDAY – 7.30 pm 3RD APRIL 2015

J. S. Bach wrote some of the most profound music settings for the Passion of Christ. Some of this beautiful choral and organ music can be heard at St. Finbar’s together with special readings and meditations on Good Friday evening at 7.30pm. Robert Ampt, with Amy Johansen, Choir Accompanist, will conduct the Blue Mountains Chorale and play selected works by Bach.

At times only candles will illuminate the church as passages from Sacred Scripture are read. Now an an-nual event this powerful devotional evening will be a very special Lenten experience and all are welcome. There will be a retiring collection. Inquiries Judy Burrett 4754 1780.

PHILLIP RAGAN: There will be a memorial service for the life of Phillip Ragan on Tuesday 31st March at Holy Spirit Church Kincumber commencing at 11:00am. The Kincumber church is a new building behind the Kincumber shops. Phillip spent his early years in the St Finbars parish. He was the son of Barbara Higginson (Ragan) and Harry Ragan (dec). Phillip’s family would like those who remember him to attend. We will keep his family in our prayers.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRY: Thank you to the 1 person who volunteered for this ministry. We are still in urgent need of 2 more people to help. Please call Lina 4739 3817.

PARISH CHILDREN’S CHOIR On the 4th Sunday each month, a group of young children lead the singing at the 9.30am Mass. To prepare for this the practise on Thursdays in the Church, from 3.30pm—4.30pm. Some come straight across from school and play till 3.30pm. This year we have only 9 from St Finbars and 3 from other schools. In the past, we have had 20 plus! This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to sing beautiful Liturgical Music and in so doing develop your child’s relationship with God through sung prayer. Please discuss this with your child. Enquires, Mary 4754 4955

Next Youth / Family Mass will be on the 19th April, due to Easter. In the meantime you are invited to attend the Palm Sunday Mass at Parramatta on Sunday 29th from 4:30pm. A number of high school

students will be joining the Youth Team for this event. All welcome. Last Sunday the Edge celebrated St Patricks day and learnt a little about this amazing Saint and how he taught the Irish pagans about the Trinity. The Lounge: did a Refugee Charity Challenge, where they were placed in the position of refugees. They had to choose food written in a foreign

language. They had to decipher a citizenship test question

(written from right to left) and write their answer in a foreign language.

They then had to speak in a foreign language to ask for a plane ticket to Indonesia so they could visit some of their family scattered around the globe.

The youth are now hoping to raise some money for Mamre House at St Mary’s to put towards the specialised education resources needed to help the refugees they support... and to show their empathy and solidarity for the 50 million refugees worldwide.
