Faith is God’s gift, stewardship our life given in thanks

3rd Sunday of Advent,

hearing St. Paul Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic utterances. Test every-thing; retain what is good. Refrain from every kind of evil. May the God of peace himself make you perfectly holy and may you entire-ly, spirit, soul, and body, be pre-served blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.

Stewardship - A Disciple’s Response: Discipleship requires the surrender of ourselves through grace and choice to Jesus Christ: “Mature disciples make a conscious, firm decision, carried out in action, to be followers of Jesus Christ no matter the cost to themselves.” A disciple is both a learner and a companion of Jesus Christ, as well as one open to the movement of the Holy Spirit towards a gracious generosity of heart. The authentic disciple regards all he or she is and possesses as gifts and blessings and realizes the need to share those gifts and blessings with others for the sake of the kingdom of God.

As the Christmas holyday draws near, the time of God among us,

what do we reject and what do we embrace?

Monday: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Tuesday: Regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God…

It is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. Wednesday: We hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power

may be of God and not from us. Thursday: Knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with

Jesus … Everything indeed is for you, so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God.

Friday: When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption... So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

Saturday: You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

The baton, message of God's saving love is passed in Advent:

From Isaiah the prophet

to John the Baptist

to Paul the Evangelist

to Mary & Joseph.

When we listen to God and live in faith, we will be ready for the Christmas renewal this year.

Retired Religious Collection: Please be generous in supporting the sisters who have taught and cared for us!

As we go door to door in Fort Pierre, sharing God's peace and

Christmas cards, let us pray:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury,

pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be

consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying

that we are born again to eternal life. Amen.

Let us pray in thanksgiving for Fr. Jim Michalski, SJ, called to eternal life December 6, 2014 in Omaha, following a short battle with an aggressive cancer. He was 72 years old, a Jesuit for 54 years, a priest for 42 years, recently serving on the Rosebud Reservation.

"There are a lot of happy kids in Vvumba, Uganda," says Tony Koenig of Bonesteel Immaculate Conception Parish. He, his daughter and Greg Hausman just returned from a great trip where the water project was completed. The local men had the well drilled, the school kids had the trenches dug, and we bought and laid the pipes, so there's running water in their school now. St John's parishioners and Catholic Daughters donated

$3800 to the cause. Thank-you for your generosity and prayer.

Please kneel down after Mass and pray Three Hail Mary’s for the next person who dies from our parish.

Spiritual Motherhood: Our Diocesan Office of Vocations invites women to join the Spiritual Motherhood Group. The Vatican Con-gregation for the Clergy asks women to consider serving as “Spiritual Mothers” to priests, a commitment to prayer and offer-ings for priests. A workshop is scheduled at Winner Immaculate Conception parish on Saturday, January 31, 11:00am to 2:00pm CT. We'll provide information of a commitment to Spiritual Moth-erhood, pray together, share stories, and lunch. Please join us! RSVP to Bridget Decker, Coordinator of Vocations, at [email protected] or 605-716-5214 ext. 233, by January 23 for Winner, for a lunch count. If you cannot attend a workshop, but want to be a part of this, contact Bridget.

We are planning on arranging child care in the church basement. Following the retreat at 5pm in Padre Hall, the Knights of Columbus will have a Valentines dinner for all couples, husbands and wives, widows and widowers (not just KC members) If you would like to attend call Tom LeFaive, 605-280-7865. Join Sharing the Dream founder Diane Nesselhuf January 18th- Jan 27th for a learning trip to Guatemala. Sharing the

Dream’s philosophy is to “be” with people instead of to “do” for people. They are kind, respectful people who have

built a relationship with the Sharing the Dream staff and have taught us a lot over the years. You’ll have the oppor-

tunity to listen to their hopes, dreams and learn about their vibrant culture and be welcomed into their homes, learn

how they make their beautiful crafts and their work with Sharing the Dream. Service is a lifelong way of living our

lives-a commitment to sustainable fair trade is only one of the ways to see a difference in a person’s life. The trip will

include visiting cooperatives, working with staff to serve elders in our elder project, taking a cayuca ride on beautiful

Lake Atitlan, visiting a school in a small village, and exploring beautiful areas around Guatemala. This is an amazing

way to learn about a country and its people. Trip is limited to 8 people. Contact Diane- [email protected].
