Kindergarten Fortnightly News! This semester Kindergarten is commencing a rostered News system!

Children are invited to share a quality piece of news with Kindergarten once a fortnight. News items can include writing, drawings, books, toys, photographs etc, which your child can speak confidently about. Children are encouraged not to bring in any items of special value in case of loss or damage. However a photograph or drawing of the item would be fantastic!

Please refer to the chart below to see when News will occur for your child.

Thank you for your support! Miss Logan and Miss Seaman What is Anaphylaxis? Anaphylaxis is a severe and sudden allergic reaction. It occurs when a person is exposed to an allergen (such as food or an insect bite). Reactions usually begin within minutes of exposure and can progress rapidly over a period of up to two hours or more. Anaphylaxis is potentially life threatening and always requires an emergency response. Fortunately anaphylactic reactions are uncommon and usually preventable. At Crookwell Public School there are students who suffer from severe allergic reactions and in order to provide a safe environment our policy is to restrict access to allergens.

ALL students are asked NOT to bring nuts, peanut butter or Nutella to school.

If your child suffers from allergies the school needs to be informed. There is information available from the front office to be filled in for students who have been identified as being Anaphylactic, ever been hospitalized due to anaphylaxis, or have been issued with an Epipen. If required, an action plan will soon be sent home to be updated and returned to school.

N.B. If there has been any changes to the medication or action plan, please prove the updated plan information and medication as soon as possible. If you need more clarification on this, please contact the school. Thank you for your understanding in these matters. Spell-a-thon Reminder! Our school Spell-a-thon is fast approaching! There is only 2 weeks left to revise your spelling words and seek sponsorship. Please keep practising your words for Monday 28th July. Good luck everyone!

Infants Excursion – ‘Wombat Stew’ at Canberra Theatre

REMINDER REMINDER REMINDER On Thursday 24th July, all the infants classes are invited to attend an excursion to Canberra Theatre to watch a live performance of the children’s classic, ‘Wombat Stew’ by Marcia K Vaughan. Here is what the Canberra Theatre website is saying about this amazing production.

‘The last time WOMBAT STEW toured Australia in 2010, it took everyone by storm, playing to over 90,000 people. In 2014, the much loved WOMBAT STEW, will tour Australia again to celebrate 30 years in print. This simple story of a dingo who catches a wombat and decides to make “gooey, brewy, yummy, chewy” wombat stew, has been cleverly developed into a “true-blue-dinky-di-BIG AUSSIE MUSICAL” complete with blobs of mud, very fine emu feathers, creepy crawlies, flies, gumnuts and a BIG BUBBLING BILLY CAN. With a cast of 6 multi-talented performers, WOMBAT STEW is a “mouth-watering” combination of story-telling, mime, music, dance and puppetry, which is bound to be the highlight of children’s theatre for 2014 and well into the future...’ – Canberra Theatre Students are asked to come to school as normal. We will be leaving at 9.15am sharp so children need to be at school ready to leave by 9am. Once we arrive at Canberra Theatre we will be having our recess and a toilet break before the show begins at 11.45am. Students will not be able to bring school bags on the bus so we ask that recess and lunch are packed in separate plastic bags with your child’s name clearly written. Students must wear full winter school uniform.

The performance goes for one hour. After the show students will have lunch and toilet break before we board the buses to travel back home. We anticipate that we will be back at school at around 4pm. Mr. Atfield can be contacted on 48 321 213 if for any reason you need to pass a message on to the attending staff as he will have all staff phone numbers. The attending staff will be Miss Logan, Miss Seaman, Miss Kemp, Mrs McCormack, Mr Whittington, Mrs Davies, Mrs Gay, Mrs Price and Miss Stephenson.

There are very few performances or excursions that are suitable for infants students and this will be our main excursion for the year.

Supporting Zac! Zac McGregor is a very talented sportsman, this year having made it into the South Coast Cricket, Hockey and Rugby league teams. For an individual student to make it into three South Coast Teams is an amazing achievement. Congratulations Zac!

However, another string was added to Zac’s bow when it was announced that Zac had been selected to play in the NSW Boys Hockey Team. The team will play in Tasmania later in the year. All the best Zac! Could this be another Crookwell youngster that will represent Crookwell and Australia on the hockey world stage?

You can imagine the costs associated with this outstanding achievement, subscriptions alone amount to over $1100. To help defray the costs incurred, the school is conducting a mufti-day next Wednesday 23rd July to support Zac. The mufti-day theme is, ‘come dressed as your future career choice’ and for the privilege, make a gold coin donation. Your support of this fun initiative is very much appreciated. BOOK CLUB NEWS Issue 5 of Scholastic Book Club is now available, however will not be distributed to each student, as Book Fair is coming up at the end of the month. If anyone would like to take home this issue’s booklets, they will be available from the front office. Yours in Public Education,

Greg Atfield

Principal
