Memphis May Fire - The Sinner

Mise En Scene

• The Instrumental props in the video are used to give the viewer this sense of the music video being live and therefore more lively and enjoyable for this particular genre. This is very conventional and used all across the heavy metal/rock genre(s).

• The dark black clothing and black colouring the video is used to increase intensity to the music video and to add to this theme of digging a hole that the person cannot get out of which is mentioned in the lyrics. Furthermore, a dark mood is given is given to the music video from these features. Hard lighting is quite usually used on the band members to focus on them and add a dramatic effect to the music video.

• This music video does not contain any females or anyone outside the band. This further adds to this feeling of making this video seem live and therefore more exciting for this particular audience.

• The locations used are very limited and do not create confusion to the viewer. I believe this works really well and will be something I will be exploring when it comes to mine

Editing

• Editing is done very carefully and the editor has actually minimised editing in order to build on this idea of making the music video seem live to the audience and therefore more lively and exciting for the particular audience. Certain editing techniques such as colouring and contrast is used to make the video seem darker and therefore build on the idea of being stuck in this hole. This is conventional to this music genre and something I will be exploring in my own project.

Camera

• Most shots are extreme closes of the lead singer to show the lip syncing in more detail and therefore build on this idea of making the video seem live. Furthermore, the close ups are usually used when the singer is screaming and therefore adds intensity to the music video. This is very conventional and definitely something I will be using when it comes to my own project. • Going back to the locations used from the Mise En Scene slide, they

were limited but kept exciting through the variety of shot types within the scenes. This keeps the viewer aware and not confused while also keeping the excitement and intensity of the music video.
