The Best of the Rest:

The Most Helpful Resources This Week

FITTYCENTKnow your Audience.

Know your environment from the inside out. Most people decide what they want to express, then they find the audience. However, it should be the other way around. You must first know your audience such as their background, values, and their demand, then you express your view .

FITTYCENTListen to your audience. Too often, people like to speak and not listen. When you don't listen it is hard to connect with your audience. 50 cent used this tactic to become successful in his career. He listened to his fans.

FITTYCENTKnow your Audience.

In the 50 cent article he was all about emphasizing relate to the audience! it was very helpful, kind of got me thinking to narrow my focus more on what is going on around me and not to try to think up a topic that I'm not really passionate about.

As a writer we must relate to our audience.  There are different ways to relate to an audience.  Fifty Cent explains about using feedback, growing close to your audience, learning about them and letting them learn about you.

for change.

PEER REVIEW GUIDESHEET

The Peer Review Guidesheet- where was that in WRIT 121? It made the

whole process so much clearer. The best idea ever for a writing class.

- I used it myself and it seemed really clear to me and it would be good for myself to go over it again for my own paper too.

75 ARGUMENTS

Logos is based on facts and/or figures and it appeals to the logic. What I like about logos is it is packed with many different meanings (i.g. word, thought, principle, speech, sign, symbol, and icon). I find this to be very powerful in argumentative writing. I like the idea of giving logic and reasoning.

WHAT WRITING IS:WHAT WRITING DOES

It's all right there.Rhetoric= Persuasion= The Argument. I referred to it in my writing and reviewing.

LUNSFORD: EAAThe text book writes about pathos, ethos, and logos.  These are basically three different ways that we can deliver a good argument.  The best argument will utilize all three.

LUNSFORD: EAA

Power of using imagery to not only focus people's attention but also to help them relate the topic back to themselves and think further, imagining it in a clearer light. "Arguments from the heart"

LUNSFORD: EAAImportance of using humor and emotion to invoke certain ways of thinking and occasionally causing the reader to think differently about a topic. "Arguments from the heart“

LUNSFORD: EAA

Ethos can turn a paper around with credible sources and the facts they present. "arguments based on character“

Audience and the Importance of Counter-arguments

Providing with multiple perspective. From the video clip, it stated that you can lose credibility when you don't include multiple perspectives. It is important to include counter arguments in order to make your case more effective

LUNSFORD: EAAUse common sense, but be diverse in thinking. Not all people think the same way, whether it is culturally, personally, religiously etc. be open to interpreting other ideas into the essay and not just declaring that your opinion is the only way. "arguments based on facts and reason“

LUNSFORD: EAA

Understanding How Emotional Arguments Work. P.47, text. As writers we need to play on emotion and imagination of our readers in order to get required response.

LUNSFORD: EAAWhen claiming authority, one must be well prepared and educated on their subject. P.65-66, text.

LUNSFORD: EAAThe term "Argument of Precedent" P. 98, text. I never knew what that meant and now I know. (It means to compare, use analogies, and issues of time as "ammo" for your argument.)

The sample essay by Harker shows how to write on a college level, not like we're talking to a friend.   Excerpts form LCC Faculty Handbook also touches on this point.

Believing Doubting game shows a great way to brainstorm both sides of an argument.

5 1/2.  Harker's sample essay shows how to technically put together an essay.

And the 1 – uber-important from what I saw mentioned in the discussion boards…

Use common sense, but be diverse in thinking. Not all people think the same way, whether it is culturally, personally, religiously etc. be open to interpreting other ideas into the essay and not just declaring that your opinion is the only way.
