Heritage Management Planning and the Lansing Heritage SiteThe Lansing Heritage Site, on Settlement Lands of the Nacho Nyäk Dun, will be designated as a Yukon Historic Site under the Historic Resources Act in accordance with the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Final Agreement; Chapter 13, Schedule A. The Lansing Historic Site will be managed by the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun.
The First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun and the Government of Yukon are jointly preparing a Heritage Management Plan following Final Agreement - Section 2.6, under the guidance of the Lansing Steering Committee.

The Lansing Heritage Site is located at the confluence of the Lansing and Stewart Rivers. The Lansing Heritage Site is significant because of its long history of use as a gathering place, trading post, and outpost. Lansing is important for its contribution to the identity and memory of the NND, other First Nations, and the history of the Yukon. The site includes a clearing with buildings, structures and landscape features such as a vegetable garden.
The draft final Lansing Heritage Management Plan provides a long term vision for the Lansing Heritage Site to ensure that the site remains in use for a variety of visitors, particularly for the NND, and other visitors arriving by river or air. Planning for the Lansing Heritage Site follows the principles expressed in the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, current best practices for the management of cultural heritage landscapes, and requirements of the NNDFA.

The Draft Final Lansing Heritage Management Plan includes the following sections:1. Background: for the Lansing Heritage Site2. Heritage Resources: descriptions summary, maps and photos3. Conservation and Design Guidelines: the approach to
managing the Lansing Heritage Site4. Information Materials, Education and Interpretation: the
approach to share the story5. Economic Opportunities: short and long term opportunities6. Implementation: actions to accomplish the management plan
The Plan recognizes that NND history and traditional uses of Lansing must be an integral part of any management actions taken. Using NND history and traditional uses as a foundation, the Lansing Management Plan includes a Site Development Plan, as well as Conservation Zones. Recommendations in the plan include (but are not limited to): • heritage resources at Lansing be conserved, allowing for
rehabilitation as needed• annual site caretaking to maintain the site• a Site Development Plan includes minimal visitor amenities,
developed in a way that protects the significant heritageresources and values at Lansing
• a Conservation Zones plan identifies areas with specificmanagement requirements
• information materials, educational and site interpretationtools will be developed to encouraging the appreciation of Lansing’s heritage pass along the memories of Lansing tofuture generations.
